Knott's crucial late penalty save earns Bluebirds a vital point in capital

Ifan Knott - saved a penalty in stoppage timeGoalkeeper Ifan Knott pulled off an important stoppage time penalty save to earn Haverfordwest County a hard fought draw against Cardiff Met at the Cyncoed Campus on Tuesday night.
 
Haverfordwest County made three changes from last Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at home against Connah’s Quay Nomads, new signing Aidan Macnamara makes his debut for the club also Kai Whitmore and Jack Wilson start, whilst Rio Dyer returns from injury on the bench. Ricky Watts is names as captain as his side looked to end their four straight defeats on the trot.
 
With a cagey start from both teams, it was Bluebirds’ skipper Watts who was issued first yellow card of the evening for a cynical foul on Craven.
 
The hosts created the first decent chance as Lewis Rees played a short ball to Chris Craven, the latter’s cross to the far post sees Joe Evans’ volley deflected for a corner. Thomas Price tried his luck from distance which flew well over the crossbar.
 
In the 37th minute the visitors carved open their best chance when Wilson’s dangerous long throw-in in the box found the head of Luke Tabone inside the area, it fell to Danile Hawkins, but his low drive on the turn flew wide.
 
Just before the break Wilson struck a direct free kick from outside the box which just missed the target – the score remained goalless at half time.
 
After the break the Archers put the visitors under pressure as Knott tipped an in swinging Ress corner against the bar.
 
Minutes later Lee Jenkins’ header from a Hawkins corner goes wide as the visitors pressed for the opener, Wilson’s 25 yard low effort doesn’t test Alex Lang.
 
At the other end Rees tried to chip Knott, but the keeper gathered comfortably
 
In the 62nd minute the visitors finally broke the deadlock as Whitmore sent keeper Lang the wrong way.
 
Hawkins’ free kick in the box found Whitmore who forced a save out of Lang, frustration got the better of Bluebirds manager Tony Pennock who was issued a yellow card.
 
In the 88th minute the hosts levelled matter substitute Finley Skiverton headed downwards as it fell invitingly for Lewis to equalise with a diving header.
 
In stoppage time the Archers were awarded a penalty, but Knott saved diving to his right to deny Lewis the winner.
 
This Saturday, 30th September, Haverfordwest County entertain rock bottom Aberystwyth Town at the Ogi Bridge Meadow Stadium, kick off 2.30pm.
