Haverfordwest County 1 – Cardiff Met University 1

Haverfordwest County and Cardiff Met University settled for a draw in a highly competitive clash on a cold Tuesday evening at the Ogi Bridge Meadow Stadium.

Haverfordwest County manager Tony Pennock kept faith with the same starting line-up that won in Connah’s Quay Nomads last time out, also there was a welcome return to the bench for Rhys Abbruzzese (return form injury) and academy product Daniel John.

Both teams came into this league clash in good form, the Bluebirds have won back-to-back games for the first time this season and the Archers have won their last three league and cup games.

The visitors took the lead through a Thomas Vincent header from a corner, but on the stroke of half time Ben Fawcett equalised with his third goal of the season, neither side could find the back of the net for a winner, so they settled for a point apiece, on the overall balance of play a draw was probably the right outcome.

The visitors found the back the net with barely five minutes on the clock, but it was ruled out for offside.

The Archers took the lead in the 28th minute when Harry Owen’s well flighted corner was met with a firm Vincent header inside the area.

Martell Taylor-Crossdale played a decent pass just inside the box to Fawcett, the striker struck a powerful instinctive shot over the crossbar, minutes later Jacob Owen struck a first-time 25 yarder which flew wide of the target.

The Bluebirds levelled matters when the Archers defenders failed to clear a cross in the box, Fawcett reacted quickest as the ever alert striker struck a wicked first time effort into the far corner of Alex Lang’s net.

Shortly after the break, Lang quickly came off his line to clear the danger as the Archers’ goalkeeper denied Fawcett getting on the end of a well weighted Luke Tabone through ball.

Four minutes from full time Vincent headed wide from inside the box, that was the last chance of the game as it finished in a draw.
