Bowl Umpires

John Williams and Les Hastings

John Williams

Mid 70s - Retired

John is another hugely respected and experienced umpire who has taken charge of five Harrison-Allen Bowl Finals since 1979, when he stood in the middle with the late Len Barrah and officiated at every cup tournament in the county over the interim period.

He was president of the PACUS for two separate three-year stints after he played cricket for Hundleton and produced along (with his cricket-loving wife Hilary!) three fine cricketing sons in Mark, Jonathan and Philip, who captained Cresselly for three years recently.

Like Les, John was chosen to officiate at a Welsh Cup Final, between St Fagan’s and Gowerton as a measure of the high esteem in which his umpiring is held.

Les Hastings

Mid 70s - Retired

Les has been the Hon Secretary of the Pembrokeshire Association of Cricket Umpires & Scorers for the past 23 years after first donning his white coat a couple of years before, having finished his playing days at Hook Cricket Club.

He is highly respected and this fourth Bowl Final is reward for his yeoman work on and off the pitch after previously umpiring all the other cup competitions and organising the highly-successful Alan Brown Cup Final over many years on behalf of the PACUS.

Les was also chosen to officiate the Welsh Cup Final between Ynysygerwyn and British Steel– and with wife Ann are great supporters of cricket in Pembrokeshire.

Bowl Scorers

janice Webb John Laugharne

Janice Webb

Very early 50s! - Helps run family Garden Centre in Tavernspite

Janice does a wonderful job of scoring for the Whitland first team after starting out to help husband Paul during his long stint as Whitland skipper, and still doing a great job – so this 2 nd final is nice reward for her being very much a part of the 1 st team.

She doubles up as regular scorer for the Wales Over 50s cricket team and has also been responsible for helping to compile the stats for Pembrokeshire Cricket over the past few years and unofficial press officer since she deals with nuisance reporters seeking the scores every Saturday!

John Laugharne

Mid 70s - Retired

John is scoring in his third final after taking part in a Bowl semi-final with Neyland almost 60 years ago and eventually playing in eight Bowl finals, with four winners’ medals!

He also played in the same number of DR Morris finals as a middle order batsman and has served Neyland sport well for nigh on 60 years, with the terrific support of his wife Jen, since he also played rugby and has been a long-serving administrator with the Pembrokeshire All Blacks. Enjoys being a part of the cricket at Neyland – but steadfastly refuses all offers of a set of coloured pens!
