A brilliant hat-trick by left-sided midfielder Kadeem Harris earned professional outfit Cardiff City a thoroughly deserved victory over Haverfordwest County at the Conygar Bridge Meadow.

Harris opened the scoring just before half time and then added two further goals shortly after the break. Striker Pedro Correia was on target with the fourth for the visitors, and ten minutes before full time Sean Pemberton scored a consolation goal with his head, the scoring opportunity was neatly set up with a wicked cross by Rob Morgans.

City from the first whistle dominated possession and gave the Welsh League Division One outfit a proper workout as they contine to prepare for the forthcoming season.

Technically good

As expeced, the visitors were sharp, technically very good and always had an edge over the hard-working Bluebirds.

Chances were limited in the first period, but deadly Harris broke the deadlock, picking the ball up from the edge of the box and placing his right-footed shot into the far corner of Peter Blain's net.

The Bluebirds had few sights at goal, but striker Jack Christopher, Steffan Williams and Chris O'Sullivan all warmed the City keeper's fingers with shots.

Dale Griffiths, back from West End skippered the Bluebirds, also new signings Sam Roden, a central defender, striker Joe Leahy, midfielders Dylan Blain and Jack Britton all made impressions.

Cardiff City played Slovenian striker Etien Velikonja who they paid £2m for last season on a four-year-contract.

Harris added two well taken goals after half time to complete his impressive treble and Correia pounced from eight yards to put his side virtually out of sight.

Cracking header

Pemberton did respond with a cracking header from ten yards. Also Richie Lewis and Morgans both went close to adding further goals but on the night Cardiff City were extremely good value for their win in front of a good crowd.

The Bluebirds lost their first pre-season friendly 2-1 at Hereford against Midland Football Alliance outfit Westfields FC last Saturday. Haverfordwest County U19s lost 3-0 against Westfields FC second Xl at the same venue.
