Haverfordwest County 3 - Briton Ferry Llansawel 2
A superbly-volleyed goal by Gwion Howell helped Haverfordwest County’s talented youth team gain victory over their counterparts from Briton Ferry Llansawel in an entertaining match under the floodlights at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium.
Howell’s goal came towards the end of a tight tussle where the Young Bluebirds understandably looked a little jaded after so many recent catch-up games and at the start of a punishing timetable this week which sees further fixtures on Thursday evening and Sunday afternoon.
But after a slow start they had matched good opposition with typical commitment and Howell’s strike would have graced any goal as he latched on to a Lloyd Hughes’ delivery and thundered the ball in to the roof of Callum Humphries’ net.

Yet it was the visitors who made the better start as Callum Pallas shot tamely at Dan Evans and then the keeper made an excellent low save from Joseph Burge before strong defender Sam Bowring came up for a corner and headed home the opening goal.
But if Bowring was the hero then he was soon the unfortunate villain as he was adjudged to have brought down Glen Fiteni in the box and was shown a red card before Laurie Haworth scored from the spot – although Bowring deserved credit for the way he accepted the decision.
The Young Bluebirds took the lead in the second half when Mohannad Romman rounded off good work by Sean O’Neill, Howell and Fiteni to fire in his shot – only for Pallas to level matters as he beat Evans with a well-placed shot.
But with subs O’Neill, Alfie Stotter and Louis Thompson playing well the homesters scored the all-important winner through Howell – and might have had another but Thompson’s shot hit the woodwork.
