FAW Amateur Trophy – Round 5

Goodwick United 1 – Penrhyncoch 3

Goodwick United’s dream run in the FAW Amateur Trophy came to an end against a very good mid-Wales team Penrhyncoch at the Phoenix Ground.

Former Aberystwyth teammates Chris O’Sullivan and Gari Lewis went head-to- head at Phoenix Park, with Lewis’s side who won to progress to the last sixteen.

The Phoenix Lads found themselves 2-0 down with barely 30 minutes on the clock, Harri Harwood and David Evans both credited with the goals, Rhys Dalling pulled one back as Goodwick trailed 1-2 at half time. The second half was competitive but it was the visitors who grabbed a crucial late third through substitute Courtney Perkins to secure their place in the hat for the next round.

The visitors were awarded a direct free kick on the edge of the Goodwick area in the 15th minute, Harwood’s strike deflected off the wall to find the bottom corner of Kyle Marsh’s net.

On the half hour mark the visitors bagged a second when defender James Bryan got dispossessed by David Evans, the striker cut in and drove a low finish in the far corner to stun the home side.

Chris O’Sullivan’s outfit pulled one back when Rhys Dalling cut in and finished with a well drilled right footed effort in the far corner

The second half was a cagey affair, but in the 89th minute the visitors grabbed a crucial third which substitute Perkins tapped-in following a swift counter attack.
