JD Cymru Premier – Play Off Conference

Aberystwyth Town 0 – Haverfordwest County 1

Ioan Evans bagged winner for Haverfordwest County at Aberystwyth TownIoan Evans’ early second half strike earned Haverfordwest County a thoroughly deserved slender win against Aberystwyth Town at Park Avenue.

With other results going in the Bluebirds’ favour they now sit seventh in the table and the Seasiders are second from bottom.

Bluebirds’ boss Tony Pennock made three changes to the team that lost against Pontypridd United last time out; in came Ricky Watts, Jack Wilson and Ioan Evans, whilst Jordan Davies and Ben Fawcett featured up front.

The Seasiders named an unchanged team that had gained an emphatic 7-1 victory against Airbus UK last time out.

The visitors had the majority of the early possession before Matthew Turner pulled off a decent save to deny Jordan Davies’ snapshot from inside the box.

In the 37th minute the hosts were forced to make a change in defence as Sam Litchfield was replaced by Harri Horwood.

Five minutes before the break the visitors were unlucky not to open the scoring as Lee Jenkins’ header from a Henry Jones' free kick flew past the post.

Shortly after the interval the lively Ben Fawcett put in Davies, but the striker’s shot was comfortably saved by Turner.

The visitors finally opened the scoring in the 51st minute as midfielder Henry Jones’ fierce drive was parried by Turner, only for Evans to strike a first-time rebound into the net, a vital strike in the tense circumstances.

The Bluebirds continued to press and Jack Wilson tested with two opportunities; the first was saved the second narrowly missed the target.

Substitute John Owen had Aber’s best chance of equalising as he struck a firm shot from inside the box which Zac Jones palmed away for a corner.

Seven minutes from the end Jordan Davies’ firm header ws gathered by Turner, and there was no further drama as the Bluebirds held on for three important points on the road.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Bluebirds' defender Lee Jenkins has been picked for the Wales C squad who play in the International Challenge Match against England C to be played later this month and we at PembrokeshireSport.co.uk offer our sincere congratulations.
