Llangwm win well at Pill Parks

Umpires: Glyn Pawlett & Peter Perry

Llangwm refreshed their hopes of a quick return to the top echelon with a comDivision Two Reports 28th June 2014fortable home win over a young Carew Seconds’ side at Pill Parks.

Put in to bat first, Llangwm’s main contributors to a total of 199 for 9 were Will Beresford (a boundary-sprinkled 53 before getting out straight after reaching another half century), Sean Waller (36), Luke Brock (35) and Andrew Harries (back with 26 runs after a recent sabbatical).

James Hinchliffe was the pick of the Carew bowlers with 4 for 39 in his 12 overs, supported by Neil Gregory (2 for 50), Lewis Hicks (2 for 25) and Lewis Hicks (1 for 46).

Carew’s talented teenage batsman Dafydd Hughes topped their batting line up with 61 runs in conjunction with skipper Dai Rees (30) and Adam Hughes (16) but no-one else stayed long as Chris Inward led the Llangwm attack with a typically sharp 5 for 14 in 11 overs.

Harries used his experience to good effect as his slow stuff brought him figures of 3 for 25 and there was 1 for 25 from Richard Brock as Carew were dismissed for 126 runs.

Johnston added another maximum-points victory over Cresselly 2nds to add to their lead at the top of the table after they had built a huge total and managed to bowl out the opposition whilst still 127 runs ahead.

Johnston’s batting has really come alight of late and although they lost veteran opener Johnnie Summons with the score on 16 it brought together the volatile batting of Dan Sutton and Steve Mills.

Sutton has been a little out of sorts recently but he was quickly into his stride as he and Mills, renowned for his equally lusty hitting, put on 204 runs in double quick time, with Sutton rasping six fours and five sixes in reaching 94 before he tried reaching three figures with a six and was caught by Sam Harts on the mid-wicket boundary off Tom Arthur’s bowling.

Mills went on to make an outstanding 118, including 19 fours and three sixes before he was also removed by Arthur as part of a 3 for 50 spell, bowled by a yorker.

Sam Harts (1 for 45) and Nick Davies (4 for 62) were the other Cresselly wicket-takers as Johnston lost late wickets in an inevitable run chase.

Tom Arthur (38), Megan Jenkins (34) and Nick Jones (33) were the pick of the Johnston batting line-up as Mills completed a splendid all-round performance with 5 for 48 alongside Kevin Roberts (2 for 43) and Sutton, who bowled just four balls to finish with a 2 for 0 analysis.

Davies family stars as Burton win by three runs

Burton (148 for 9) beat Llechryd (145 all out) by 3 runs

Umpire: Tony Scourfield

Division Two Reports 28th June 2014Burton edged home by three runs in a cracking game of cricket against basement battlers Llechryd at Oatfield Park where the Davies family starred as Neville Davies top scored with 53 alongside sons Jack and James, who also featured heavily with bat and ball respectively.

Will Ridge chipped in with 24 for Burton alongside Neville (nine fours) and Jack (eight boundaries in his 45) to set a target for Llechryd of 149 runs for victory; a score that has been out of their reach many times this campaign.

But Adam Williams batted really well for his 51 and found support from Peter Betterley (24) and John Curran (18) to give them a chance – but James Davies charged in with a superb 5 for 15 haul and ‘old-timers’ Steve Jones (2 for 28) and Johnnie Scale (2 for 33) also got amongst the wickets so that they won by those three runs with just an over to spare.

Roulstone's brave half century in vain

Haverfordwest 2nds (165 all out) lost to Whitland 2nds (200 for 6) by 35 runs

Umpires: Denis Chiffi & Rob Elliott
Scorers: Natalie Thomas, Ros Phillips & Ann-Marie Jenkins

Division Two Reports 28th June 2014Avron Roulstone batted at No 10 for Haverfordwest 2nds and scored his maiden half century for the club but still ended up on the losing side at The Racecourse as their counterparts from Whitland always held an edge after recording such a big score.

Whitland had solid batting throughout their innings as they reached a big score of 200 for 6 thanks to skipper Paul Webb (29), Wayne Jones (41), Raff Williams (41), Jack Bowen (30) and his brother Connor (26 not out) as James Morris (2 for 30) and Ajay Revu (2 for 35) were the pick of The Town Seconds bowling attack.

Only Ajay Revu (39) and Kashif Ijaz ((15) looked likely to score runs against Stuart Harries (3 for 34), Paul Webb (3 for 36), his son Matthew (2 for 18) and Raff Williams (2 for 39) until South African pace man Roulstone showed he was no mug with the bat either to at least put an air of respectability on his team’s run chase.

Hay makes sun shine for Pembroke

Hook (186 for 8) lost to Pembroke (187 for 5) by 5 wickets

Umpires: Huw Davies & Dai Morris
Scorer: Chris Holder

Phil Hay was the toast of his Pembroke colleagues as he scored an outstanding undefeated century to help them start the second half of the campaign with a good win at Hook.

Hay struck 16 fours and a six in the 111 balls he faced and only Jake Feetham (21) managed double figures in support against Dai Hopkins (1 for 35), Brennan Martin (2 for 24), Wayne Griffiths (1 for 36) and Andrew Thomas (1 for 47).

Brennan Lay (46, with nine fours), Jake Wicks (41) and Tom Blaxland (35) batted well for Hook in a total of 186 for 8 before tea as Sam Davies (3 for 39) and Jonathan Rogers (4 for 54) claimed wickets for Pembroke.

But then home hopes of success gradually decreased as Jay took charge – and made the sun shine for Pembroke.
