Johnston too strong for Borderers’ second string

Johnston (109 for 2) beat Whitland 2nds (105 for 9)

Umpire: Rob Cousins
Scorers: Liam James & Ann-Marie Jenkins

Johnston were in control from the very outset against Whitland 2nds and were good value for an eight-wicket win which keeps them in contention for promotion.

Whitland could not have made much more of a bad start as Dai Lee was bowled from the first ball of the match by Steve Mills, who followed up two balls later by having Wayne Jones dismissed to leave their side at 0 for 2.
Matthew Davies (19) and Geraint Jones (17) put on 37 runs for the third wicket and there was 17 from Connor Bowen as Steve Mills (3 for 20) and Mills (3 for 23) were supported by Gary James (1 for 19) and Chris Fitzpatrick (1 for 16).

Whitland skipper Paul Webb anchored the innings with a typically gritty 31 not out but a target of 106 runs for victory was unlikely to overly trouble Johnston’s strong batting line-up.

Mills again featured strongly as he scored a speedy 53 that contained six fours and two sixes before he was adjudged lbw to Geraint Jones (1 for 3) – and Ross Dewstowe also featured in their stand of 97 as he took Johnston to victory with a robust 36 not out (four fours and a six). Paul Webb claimed 1 for 28 but Johnston were victorious in only 20 overs.

Seasiders are division two champs

Pembroke (127 all out) lost to Saundersfoot (128 for 3)

Umpires: Huw Davies & Mervyn John
Scorer: Adge John

Division Two Cricket Reports - 10th August 2013Saundersfoot showed why they are runaway league leaders and now section champions with threestill matches to go as they crushed the challenge of fellow promotion hopefuls Pembroke at Treleet.

Put in to bat first, Pembroke had cameos from Luke Butler (26), Jonathan Rogers (20), Andrew Hay (19), Paul White (19), Barry Evans (16) and Ceri Brace (16) but no-one could stay long enough to tale Pembroke to a challenging tally as Danny Caine grabbed 3 for 25 and brother James picked up 5 for 41 from his legendary slow stuff, with Nick Cope (1 for 35) and Jack Franklyn (1 for 26) also taking wickets.

A target of 128 runs for victory was never going to be enough to really challenge the Seasiders and although Pembroke skipper Sean Powell grabbed 3 for 37 there were double figures for James Caine (12) and Paul Mansbridge (43) before Phil Jones (44 not out) was joined by team captain Simon Wood (12 not out) in taking their team back into the first division. Congratulations Saundersfoot!

James Caine - five wickets for Saundersfoot

Cresselly cruise to local derby win

Cresselly 2nds (103 for 1) beat Carew 2nds (98 all out)

Umpire: Allan Hansen
Scorer: Des Brace

Division Two Cricket Reports - 10th August 2013Cresselly Seconds cruised to victory over their counterparts from Carew as veteranall-rounder Richard Harries showed just why he is the Welsh over 50s captain with a superb all-round performance.

Harries claimed 3 for 7 alongside another old-timer Lyn Richards (4 for 24) and skipper Matthew Lewis (2 for 20) as only Mark Hicks (35), Matthew Phillips (27) and the evergreen Aled Davies (17) were the pick of the Carew batting line-up.

Harry Thomas (26) and Harris then shared an opening partnership of 63 for Cresselly 2nds before Thomas departed off the bowling of Lewis Hicks (1 for 22). Alex Bailey (19 not out) supported Harris as he had eight fours in his undefeated 50, which included a six-hit to win the game in real style and help his team into second spot in the table.

Lamphey spring a surprise on Burton

Lamphey (138 for 6) beat Burton (135 all out)

Division Two Cricket Reports - 10th August 2013Umpire: Peter Perry

Burton’s recent run of good form was brought to an abrupt halt at Lamphey as they were dismissed by the basement battlers before Lamphey reached their target with plenty in hand.

Morgan Scale (18), William Ridge (13), Gavin Campbell (12)and Neville Davies (13) all got started but then got out for Burton and it was left to brothers Rob and Mark Griffiths to take Burton to 135 not out with respective scores of 21 and 22 not out against Steve Vale (2 for 22), Neil Powling (2 for 55), and David Blackwell (2 for 22).

Lamphey also lost wickets against Morgan Scale (4 for 40) and Gavin Campbell (1 for 32) but good batting by opener Peter McGilloway (five fours and a six in his 54) was supported by 41 not out from No 7 Nick Shelmerdine as Lamphey enjoyed only their second win of the season.

Stackpole storm to first success

Stackpole (141 for 9) beat Haverfordwest 2nds (116 all out)

Umpire: Steve Blowes
Scorers: Claire Cox & Ros Phillips

Division Two Cricket Reports - 10th August 2013Stackpole celebrated their first win of the season as they beat Haverfordwest Seconds by 25 runs but remain firmly ensconced in the bottom two and still firm favourites to drop back into division three.

Jonathan Willington led the Stackpole batting with 26 not out alongside Josh Davies (16) and James Adie (16) as James Morris bowled really well for The Town without any luck as his 12 overs conceded just 12 runs. Chris Phillips (4 for 54), Kern Cunningham (2 for 17), Lavindra Virasami (1 for 7), Will King (1 for 11) and Kieran Griffiths (1 for 13) were Haverfordwest’s wicket-takers but only Dan Field (42) and James Morris (16) managed double figures when they batted.

Chris Brown led the Lamphey attack with 5 for 22, supported by Darryl Willington (3 for 32) and Simon Bevan, who claimed 2 for 14 and also took a superb catch at a vital time!

Dan Field - top scored for Haverfordwest 2nds in vain at Stackpole
