All-rounder Brad stars in Lawrenny’s surprise victory

Lawrenny gained a surprise but extremely welcome victory against a shell-shocked Haverfordwest at an overcast Racecourse.

The visitors posted 124 all out, and in reply, The Town finished on 106 all out, finishing 18 runs short of their target.

Starring for the visitors was Brad McDermott-Jenkins who top scored with 22 and then followed up by snapping up (5 for 34) to earn his team only their second league win of the season.

McDermott-Jenkins top scored with 22 for Lawrenny, also Simon Cole (16), Harry Thomas (21) and Rob Williams (19) all chipped in with runs as the visitors finished on 124 all out.

Simon Holliday was in terrific form and returned impressive figures of 5 for 29 alongside youngsters Archie Thomas (3 for 12) and Kieran O’Connor (2 for 44).

Only Ben Field (33, five fours) and Sean Williams (four fours) reached double figures for The Town, but the visitors sealed a thoroughly deserved win thanks to the bowling heroics of McDermott-Jenkins, Jamie Lewis (2 for 28), Steve Lewis (1 for 7) and Rob Williams (1 for 7).

Wayne Howells struck 75 for WhitlandWhitland deservedly picked up a 70 runs victory against  Kilgetty at the Kingsmoor Ground.

The Borderers were first to bat and posted a decent 209 runs in their reduced 39-over game, in reply, the hosts were bowled out for 136 in 33.4 overs, thanks to a superb five-wicket haul by Whitland’s spinner Matthew Davies.

Wayne Howells was in brilliant form with the bat for the Borderers, scoring 75 (11 fours), he found good alleys in Jonathan Thomas (48 no, three fours and a six), Geraint Jones (21), Will Spredbury (23) and Matthew Davies (12no) as the innings closed at 206 for 9.

The Kilgetty wicket takers were shared by Jonny Harries (2 for 35), Ross Hardy (1 for 33), Kurtis Marsh (1 for 20), Jack Parkinson (1 for 30) and Toby Poole (1 for 24).

Kurtis Marsh (52, seven fours and a six) struck a well-constructed half century, but Kilgetty failed to keep up the pressure despite knocks from Kyle Marsh (30, five fours) and Jack Partington (12).

Whitland’s star bowler Davies (5 for 38), Scott Newton (2 for 30) and skipper Iestyn Scourfield (2 for 16) claimed the all- important wickets for the victorious Borderers.

Miller grabs six wickets in Neyland win

Neyland were good value for their easy six-wicket win against close neighbours Johnston at the Athletic Ground.

The hosts posted 218 off their reduced 40 over game, but in reply, spinner Andrew Miller (6 for 30) took the lion’s share of the wickets as the visitors were 118 all out.

Openers Paul Murray (53, four fours) and Patrick Bellerby (47, three fours) got Neyland off to a decent start, and Nick Koomen came to the crease and kept the momentum going with a top score of 56 not out (three fours), and Nathan Banner supported with 43, (six fours).

The Glebelands’ Boys wicket takers were Danny Dewstowe (2 for 54), Dan Sutton (1 for 21) and Liam James (1 for 52).

Johnston skipper Lee Summons (44, seven fours) top scored alongside Dan Sutton (34, seven fours), but Miller tore through the line-up with the help of wickets from Nick Koomen (2 for 16), Jamie Smith (1 for 16) and Nathan Banner (1 for 24).

 

Pembroke frustrate Cresselly with a draw

Cresselly were disappointed that they didn’t win at Pembroke despite declaring with a massive 248 for 2 total, but then failing to bowl out the opposition in 46 overs.

For the second week in a row Iwan Izzard struck a superb century to put Cresselly in the driving seat at bottom of the table Pembroke in Treleet.

On fire Izzard cracked fifteen boundaries and a six in his magnificent 111, before he was caught by Billy Wood off the bowling of Paul White. Matthew Webb was bowled early for a duck by White, but Phil ‘Taffy’ Williams steadied the innings with a workmanlike 80 not out, hitting six fours with the destroyer Alex Bayley, coming to the fore and hitting a quick-fire 50no, unbelievably smashing four successive sixes as Cresselly declared in the 43rd over on 248 for 2.

In reply, Phil Hayes (79no, nine fours and two sixes) and Sam Davies (17, one six) frustrated the Cresselly bowlers to claim a draw, the visitors’ wicket takers were Tom Arthur (4 for 28), Neil Greggory (2 for 36) and Matthew Webb (1 for 3).
 

Rooks are flying to the title

A terrific four-wicket bowling spells by Tom Davies and Shaun Whitfield earned league leaders Carew their tenth win of the season.

Tim Hicks struck a sublime half century (55, seven fours) as The Rooks found it hard going with only Brian Hall (17), and Tom Davies (24 not out) reaching double figures as the league leaders were restricted to 152 for 9.

There were three wickets apiece for accurate Tish bowlers Andrew Palmer (3 for 25), Andrew Pawlett (3 for 34) and Danny Flynn (3 for 4).

In reply, Tish got off to a decent start when they were 66 for 0 off 15 overs, the run gatherers were Andrew Palmer (35, six fours and a six), Peter Bradshaw (33, five fours) and Daniel Flynn (17), but Tish collapsed were all out in 36.2 overs.

Magnificent bowling spells by Tom Davies (4 for 34), Shaun Whitfield (4 for 28), Rhys Davies (1 for 31) and Ceri Brace (1 for 15) earned The Rooks a priceless 42 runs victory, which has kept them in pole position for the title, 21 points clear of second placed Cresselly.
