Haworth strikes equaliser in stoppage time

Goodwick United 1 – Merlins Bridge 1

Will Haworth scored a stoppage time equaliser which earned Goodwick United a hard fought draw against battling Merlins Bridge at Phoenix Park.

This was rightly billed the ‘Match of the Day’ in the top flight as this was a real test for league leaders Merlins Bridge who lived up to their top of the table status against title contenders

In a pulsating 90 minutes Wizards boss Mike Preddy would have been pleased with his side’s contribution. Both teams had found the back of the net which were both disallowed by referee Stefan Jenkins, who had a good game in the middle.

The returning lively Rhys Dalling tested James Dickson from distance at the other end a Jordan Thomas header and Kieran Blundell fiercely struck a shot over Nick Jones’ crossbar is it remained goalless at half time.

After the break it was the visitors who drew first blood when striker Aaron Bacigalupo scored from the spot, at the time it looked as if The Wizards would hold on for victory.

However, a couple of minutes into stoppage time up popped Howarth with a cracking edge of the area strike which earned is side a share of the spoils, because minutes earlier it all looked lost for Matthew Fox and Niall Kinsella’s Phoenix Lads.

Ryan Wilson scored the only goal for Hakin against TenbyRyan Wilson’s early goal for Hakin United remarkably turned out to be the winner for Hakin United against battling Tenby at the Obs.

Scott Davies’ Vikings dominated but they just couldn’t find the back of the net despite Tenby goalkeeper Joe Craig who pulled off some fine save to deny the hosts, his opposite number Rory Williams also pulled off a terrific save after 20 minutes to deny the visitors.

With barely two minutes on the clock the hosts opened the scoring, man of the match Matthew Broome’s long throw-in was flicked on by Kieran King which fell to Wilson who made no mistake with an easy far post tap-in.

Incredibly there were no further goals down to the doggedness of Tenby’s rearguard, but the third placed Vikings have closed the gap on second placed Goodwick United and leaders Merlins Bridge who drew against each other.
