On Sunday 29th September Cardiff Rotary District hosted their 35th annual Visually Impaired triples tournament at Sophia Gardens indoor bowls green.  Ten teams took part representing Ammanford, Gwent, Pembrokeshire, West Glamorgan and an All Stars team (a mix of bowlers from different clubs)

The tournament consisted of each team playing three matches and the most shots scored determined the winner.  Everyone had a lovely day and the atmosphere in the bowls hall was electric as each bowler tried their best to make every shot count for their team.  The cheers of joy when a shot wood was scored were wonderful to hear. 

Pembrokeshire’s A team was Amy Barrett, Mim Morris and Ken Watson, with their Director Olwyn Whitmore.  They played so well, winning all three games but narrowly missed out on this year’s Runners Up prize, by one point.  A special well done to Amy as it was her first time playing in this tournament and she’s improved so much as a bowler in the last 12 months.

This year’s winning team, beating the Runners Up by +20 shots and bringing home The Welsh Disabled Sports Team Championships cup was Pembrokeshire B: Madeline Roberts, Steve Whitmore and Richard Parker. 

It’s wonderful to think that a couple of years ago this very same team won Runner’s Up; Pembrokeshire’s first prize in the history of this tournament and now they become the first Pembrokeshire team to lift the trophy!
