Terrific medal success for Pembrokeshire disabled bowlers

Disabled bowlers

Six members from Pembrokeshire Disabled Bowlers Club recently competed in the first Welsh Learning Disabilities Indoor Bowls Pairs Championship held at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff – and came away with a terrific haul of medals.

Pembrokeshire played against teams from Cardiff, Islwyn, Radnorshire and Rhondda and all the bowlers were put into categories according to their ability and, owing to the number of participants, were put into divisions to play in a round robin. The format made for some excellent competition and there was some exceptional bowling on display from the Pembrokeshire contingent..

Hard work really paid off

All the hard work and practice the Pembrokeshire bowlers have been putting in showed on the day by their winning six medals and two trophies.

Andrew Roberts and James Tyler won gold in their L2 category (Division D).

Angela Clarke and Danny Pullin won silver in their L3 category (Division F).

Gwawr Harries and Ben Sanders won silver in their L3 category (Division E), then went on to win their play-off semi-final and were beaten in their final match by a small margin of 6-3. Each received a runner’s-up trophy.

A special mention should be made for Angela Clarke and Ben Sanders as it was their first competition and a big thank you was made to coaches Madeline Roberts and Stephen Whitmore, director Olwyn Whitmore, Richard the driver, and the bowlers’ carers, as attending the competition wouldn’t have been possible without them.
