The Modern Print Target Shooting Club recently celebrated another excellent year with a presentation of awards and buffet at their headquarters in Pennar, Pembroke Dock.

The inimitable MC for the evening was Ron Hovell, who still shoots competitively but is very much the backbone of the club, along with other founder members in Alan Gibby (Chairman), Tony Gibby and Kay Hovell (Hon Treasurer), plus Alan Jackson (Pistol Captain) and Neil Jackson (Assistant Secretary).

As well as the celebrating of a range of awards there was also a moving moment when the Brian Fargin Memorial Shield was presented to the club by his family in memory of a great club man and competitor, who had achieved the coveted Gold Medal status in his class at national Level but had sadly passed away in the interim period.

There was also another special presentation to the club for annual competition, an eye-catching trophy won by Alan Gibby and Paul Gibby in a match against a German touring team – and generously donated to the club by this dead-eyed duo!

The awards were presented by Angela Miles, the Disability Sport Officer for Sport Pembrokeshire, with colleague Alan Jones and sports writer Bill Carne also in attendance.

The lovely array of trophies was awarded to:

West Kent Rifle League Divisional Winners (Winter 2013/14):
Paul  Jackson  (Div.6)      Alan Gibby (Div.15)

West Kent Rifle League Divisional Winners (Summer 2014)

The club has had some wonderful news that Robert Jamieson has won a gold medal in this year’s National acoustic competition as he won division eleven.  For this coming year he will be competing in division five so that reflects the measure of his winning margin. Well done Rob!

There was another nice moment when Ron Hovell received, on behalf of the Club, the Blue Ribbon special award from Angela Miles.

Congratulations also to Michael Lewis, who has just qualified as a Range Conducting Officer as part of the Club upgrades this year. Michael has been shooting with the Club for more than five years and the Chairman and Club’s Coach could see his dedication and potential.
So he was encouraged to train in order to pursue  his interest and became a voluntary R.C.O. under the Club’s Equal Opportunity Policy.
