Welcome to the Campbell and the Jones families!
Chris Campbell and Steve Jones are two terrific cricketers and have families that have been heavily involved in disability gymnastics so we are absolutely delighted that they have generously agreed to sponsor our ‘Disability Sport’ section for the next year. Chris and his wife Michelle are the popular hosts at the Jolly Sailor in Burton and Steve runs a successful double glazing company.
Both have been terrific servants of Burton Cricket Club as well as playing other sports, with Chris as a hard-hitting batsman and excellent tactician who also played rugby, including a spell as a very good hooker with Llangwm, and cricket with Johnston for some time before returning to Oatfield Park.
Steve was also a hooker with Neyland RFC but was rightly regarded as one of the best all-rounders to emerge in local cricket as he was awarded his county cap as long ago as 1979 (he was just a nipper then!) after receiving his youth cap three years earlier. He represented his county for well over 20 years and, like Chris, he still plays today and features with both bat and ball. Both have sons who are useful teenage cricketers already, with Gavin Campbell as a promising all-rounder who plays for the county and Richard Jones as a very hard-hitting batsman in the first team. Both are already serving Burton cricket well!
Steve’s wife Jean helped found the Pembrokeshire Special Needs Gymnastics Club and is still heavily involved as the team coach for Wales in disability gymnastics, whilst daughter Victoria is a coach to the British Disability Gymnastics team. Chris’s daughter Steff is also a qualified coach with disability gymnastics and his wife Michelle gives terrific support to her family’s sporting exploits – so it is easy to see why we are delighted to have the Campbell Clan and the Jones Bunch on board with us at PembrokeshireSport.co.uk
