Crymych RFC honoured by local referees

Colin Phillips (third right) presents the Reg Jones Memorial Shield to Andrew Twts Thomas

The Pembrokeshire Society of Rugby Union Referees recently held their annual dinner at The Glen in Haverfordwest, celebrating another season where their members continued to support the game locally by officiating local clubs as well as travelling ‘up the line’ if required.

Such is their dedication to the game that some will not only give of their time on a Saturday afternoon but will have already reffed school games in the morning and then perhaps more than one game on a Sunday morning to help promote rugby at junior level.

This season, the Reg Jones Memorial Shield was won by Clwb Rygbi Crymych, which is a great honour because it is awarded annually in memory of the late Reg, who was very much a St Davids man but loved all local rugby, Wales and The British Lions, whom he travelled to support abroad many times.

This Shield is voted by the Pembrokeshire referees for the Pembrokeshire club that the referees have the best welcome at throughout the season. Colin Phillips, the Society Chair, presented Andrew ‘Twts’ Thomas, Clwb Rygbi Crymych’s Chair, with the award.

It was a fitting climax to another season of real endeavour and support but the Society is always looking for new recruits, perhaps former players who might like to put something back into their game or others who have a genuine love of rugby and would like to get a little more involved.

Anyone interested should contact Andrew Thomas on 07977 637794- he would be glad to hear from you!
