Manderwood Pembrokeshire Football League – Division 1

St Ishmaels 1 – Carew 3

Carew came from behind to secure a thoroughly deserved victory against high flying St Ishmaels in the only game played in the top flight which was switched to the all-weather pitch at the Bridge Meadow Stadium.

Storm Ingrid hit the county with heavy rain and strong winds and there were only six games completed.

Jack Christopher’s Carew outfit have now won three games in a row which has lifted them up to ninth in the table whilst Graham Ninnis’ Tish team stay in third position.

There were four goals in total and every one of them were quality finishes, in an end to end tussle.

Tish broke the deadlock when Nathan Thomas struck a 20 yard belter which flew in the top corner of Tom Davies’ net.

On the stroke of half time The Rooks struck two goals in quick succession. Firstly, striker Sam Christopher lobbed Tish keeper Owen Thomas from 30 yards out, straight from the kick off the Rooks worked their way up field before Harry Peniket’s cross was met with an excellent James Hinchliffe diving header as Carew led 2-1 at the break.

After the break it was a cagey affair with neither side getting a strong foothold in the match, but the defining moment came in the 69th minute as defender Sonny Phillips struck a 25 yard left footed screamer which flew in the top corner to put the result beyond doubt.
