Ashley BevanHaverfordwest County have progressed in the Welsh Cup after overcoming Newport YMCA at Mendalgief Road.

The visitors were on top in the first period, with Steffan Williams missing a sitter midway through the first period as the score read 0-0 at half time.

Ashley Bevan opened the scoring in the 70th minute, good work down the right by Matthew Broome, the defenders cross was met by a powerful header by Bevan from 12 yards out.

Five minutes later and the homesters equalised through striker Daniel Queto who struck inside the box.

Ten minutes from full time and Haverfordwest County bagged the winner. Steffan Williams’ cross was met with a well taken far post header by Rhys Dalling.

Player manager Chris O’Sullivan, said afterwards, “I was pleased with the result, but there is still a lot of hard work ahead of us as we strive to get better.”

Prior to kick off both teams observed a minute's silence in memory of Welsh legend Mel Charles who played for Haverfordwest County back in the 1960's.

The Bluebirds have signed three additions to the squad this week. Left back Antonio Facciuoto has returned, midfielder Kieran O’Brien has joined from Goodwick United, and centre back Jamie Evans is also back for a second spell at the club.

This Tuesday, October 4th, they entertain Welsh Premier Aberystwyth Town in the MG Nathaniel Cup, kick off 7.45pm, on Friday, October 7th, return to league action when they take on Goytre United on the Conygar Bridge Meadow.
