Haverfordwest County 6 – Cefn Druids 1

 
An excellent second half display saw Haverfordwest County grab no fewer than six impressive goals to crush bottom of the table Cefn Druids at the Bridge Meadow Stadium.

Incredibly it was 0-0 at half time, but despite rain and wind the hosts got into their stride in the second period, banging in six goals to secure their third successive victory.

Ben Fawcett scored a cracking brace alongside one apiece for Jordan Davies, Jack Wilson, Alhagi Touray Sisay plus substitute Danny Wilson, who got in on the act late on.

This was Nicky Hayen’s first time in the Bridge Meadow dugout and things could not have gone much better than this impressive result for the Bluebirds’ manager.



 

The Bluebirds looked by far the sharper side in the first half but missed a few chances, none more so after Sisay had nodded a deflected cross across goal and Jack Wilson watched in dismay as his close-range header rapped the bar and was cleared.

With Corey Sheppard and Kurtis Rees dominating the midfield and skipper Dylan Rees and Elliott Scotcher keeping things tight alongside Kyle Patten at the back the home side enjoyed a sizeable territorial advantage and keeper Lee Idzi had a quiet time whilst opposuite number  Michael Jones was busy.

Jones saved well from Fawcett, who posed problems all afternoon and  Jordan Davies was eager with his darting runs and ability to pull defenders out of position - but no goals came.

But what manager Hayen and assistant Gary Richards said at half time it certainly worked because shortly after the break, Fawcett opened the scoring with a simple far post tap-in following tidy build-up play, but it was short-lived as two minutes later the visitors equalised through Neto Antonio after good work by Liam Thomas as The Bluebirds went to sleep at the back for a fatal split second.

The Bluebirds were unlucky when Elliot Scotcher’s corner headed away but fell in the path of Corey Shephard who struck a wicked half volley which narrowly flew wide. Minutes later Wilson struck a low effort which Michael Jones did well to get down to.

In the 52^nd minute the hosts regained the lead as Wilson’s teasing cross was met by Jordan Davies who beat keeper Jones to score his first goal for the Bluebirds.

Wilson went close again after he got on the end of Davies’ cross, and Lee Idzi pulled off a smart save to deny Liam Thomas at the other end.

In the 73^rd minute County added a crucial third goal when Wilson atoned for his earlier miss as he struck a vicious shot which flew in the far corner.

That third goal eased the nerves for the Bluebirds, who went on to totally dominate, and the fans were treated to three further goals.

Fawcett’s deflected shot brought up the fourth, Touray Sisay deftly chipped Jones for the fifth plus Williams struck the sixth to secure his side’s biggest win of the season.

Chairman Rob Edwards tweeted shortly after the final whistle: "Incredible second half from the boys. Found a ruthless streak that’s been missing for a long time, against a team who have improved a lot in recent weeks. We keep looking forwards."
