Haverfordwest County 3 – Risca United 0
Haverfordwest County have reached the Welsh League Cup semi-finals after they overcame Risca United following an excellent second half display.
The Bluebirds deservedly progressed in this competition with Ashley Bevan scoring a brace alongside a beautifully carved goal scored by Steffan Davies.
Goalkeeper James Gwilt denied Risca’s Sebastian Haggett from the spot in the 20th minute, the keeper diving to his right to beat out the 12 yard effort. That fantastic save certainly woke the Bluebirds from their early slumber.
Watts is back
Ricky Watts, signed from Welsh Premier Aberystwyth Town earlier in the week, impressed playing in the heart of the Bluebirds' defence alongside skipper Sean Pemberton and full backs Matthew Broome and Spencer Williams.
Just before the break hard working midfielder Greg Walters was unlucky not to open the scoring when his wicked shot struck the post, minutes later and Rhys Dalling crashed a header against the crossbar.
Looping header
The homesters finally broke the deadlock five minutes after half time; Spencer Williams’ cross was met by a brilliant looping header by Bevan.
In the 65th minute the home outfit doubled the lead with a well-orchestrated goal, Nicky Palmer and Lee Hudgell combined to release Bevan, the latter unselfishly squared to Steffan Davies inside the box, and the striker confidently fired past the outstretched Ben Fletcher.
Dalling sees red
The home outfit were reduced to ten-men when Dalling was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.
But the Bluebirds put the tie beyond the visitors when the Bluebirds added a third goal, on-fire Bevan curling a superb curler past Fletcher from the edge of the 18 yard box.
