Haverfordwest County’s impressive away form continued with a comfortable three-goal victory against Cwmbran Celtic.
A Steffan Davies header and an own goal plus a good strike by Steffan Williams gave the visitors a three goal cushion at half time, there were no further scoring as the visitors secured the points.
More locals than ever
The Bluebirds were delighted to return to winning ways, and what’s even more satisfying for the visitors is the fact that 10 of the 14 squad members are Pembrokeshire grown players, a great deal has been said in the past that there are not enough locals in the Haverfordwest County set-up, well things have certainly changed in that department now, and it would be nice if a lot more home grown fans would go along and support them in their home games on the Conygar Bridge Meadow.
Walters back
The visitors welcomed back central midfielder Greg Walters from Welsh Premier Aberystwyth Town; he certainly made a difference with his high energy levels and extra quality in the heart of midfield alongside Nicky Palmer, Lee Hudgell and Steffan Williams.
What was even more pleasing for Haverfordwest County was they kept a clean sheet, with keeper James Gwilt having a relatively quiet afternoon. Centre back Nathan Banner man marked striker Josh Bull, and did a superb job alongside defensive team mates Matthew Broome, Antonio Steffano and Antonio Facciuto.
First half goals
Steffan Davies opened the scoring in the tenth minute, the striker met Lee Hudgell’s cross with a precision header. Fifteen minutes later and the visitors doubled the lead as a Cwmbran Celtic defender accidentally slotted past the keeper for an own goal.
Steffan Williams added a third goal on the 30 minutes mark, Ashley Bevan struck a firm shot that the keeper parried, and Williams followed up to bury a low shot in the far corner.
The second half was a timid affair but the Bluebirds will be happy with their fourth win of the season as they sit mid table in eighth position.
