All Blacks go so close to surprise victory

Pembroke County XV

Valero Diamond Jubilee Charity Match:

Neyland  28 - Pembroke County XV 31

Neyland came very close to causing an upset in this cracking charity match at the Athletic Ground in front of a large and appreciative crowd where the lead changed hands several times and the county team scored late on and had to repel a couple of last-ditch tackles in the top left corner before taking the honours.

Undoubted man of the match was Neyland centre Tom Hughes, recently playing with Glamorgan Wanderers and scoring three outstanding tries as well as defending superbly alongside his team mates from the club where he used to play.

Prior to kick off there was an hour’s-worth of junior rugby at its best as teams from host club Neyland, Fishguard & Goodwick, plus Pembroke Dock Harlequins in under 7s tag rugby, plus under nines’ matches involving Neyland, The Quins and Pembroke

A large sum will have been raised for Valero’s charity of 2024 – ASD Family Help, which gives wonderful help and advice to those with ADHD.

A full match report of the main game and more photographs, plus the junior matches, will appear on PembrokeshireSport.co,uk early next week.
