Aldred buries stoppage time penalty for West Wales Cup holders Hakin

West Wales Intermediate Cup Quarter Final

Garden Village 0 – Hakin United 1

Ben Aldred - scored a dramatic stoppage time winning penalty for Hakin United at Garden VillageBen Aldred scored a stoppage time penalty to earn holders Hakin United a dramatic victory over West Wales Premier Garden Village as they reached the last four of the West Wales Intermediate Cup.

The last time these teams met was in August 2021 in the FAW Amateur Trophy when the Vikings also won 2-1 at Stafford Common with Justin Harding and Adam John who both found the back of the net.

After a goalless first period it was The Vikings  who almost scored in the opening minute when Leon Luby’s cross cum shot struck Lucas Collier’s post.

Scott Davies’ Hakin outfit continued to press without any joy as Garden Village soaked up the pressure as they began to create chances without really troubling goalkeeper Rory Williams.

On the stroke of half time Jack Britton headed agonisingly wide from a corner as the visitors were disappointed not to break the deadlock.

The second half was an end-to-end affair with neither team able to grab an elusive goal.

However, there was late drama when Garden Village’s Chris Smith was sent off as he pulled off a fine save, but he saw red from referee Spencer Williams for deliberately destroying a goal scoring opportunity.

Up stepped Aldred who kept his nerve as he made no mistake with the resultant penalty to send the holders into the last four of this prestigious competition as they look to retain the West Wales Cup.
