Welsh League Division One
Haverfordwest County 1 – Goytre United 1
Haverfordwest County surrendered a one-goal lead to share the draw points with Goytre United at the Conygar Bridge Meadow on this floodlit Friday night.
In a tight first period, it was the Bluebirds who opened the scoring through Jamie Evans, but the visitors deservedly picked up a point when Adam Orme equalised on a mild evening on the Meadow.
Good header
There were not many goal scoring chances created in the opening 45 minutes, but Luke Martin made one good save. The homesters broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute; Lee Hudgell’s excellent delivery in the box from a corner was met by a firm header by Steffan Davies, the ball crashing into the back of the net from eight yards out.
Under pressure
The visitors came out in the second half all guns blazing, and the Bluebirds’ back four of Matthew Broome, Sean Pemberton, Jamie Evans and Spencer Williams were put under extreme pressure.
Goalkeeper James Gwilt pulled off a smart save to deny former Bluebird Tim Hicks from close range.
However, the visitors equalised in the 75th minute after Gwilt parried Damon Thomas’ stinging shot, only for Adam Orme to follow up with an easy tap-in.
The Bluebirds held firm for the remainder of the game, and a draw was probably a fair result on the night.
Goytre United sit seventh in the table with Haverfordwest County eighth, both on 11 points, and the pair are five points behind early leaders Cambrian & Clydach Vale BCG.
On Tuesday evening Haverfordwest County beat Welsh Premier Aberystwyth Town 1-0, Jamie Evans scoring for the Bluebirds, their reward is a quarter final draw away to Barry Town United in the Nathaniel MG Cup.
