There was talent aplenty on show on what proved to be another superb Junior Finals Day, this year held at Crickmarren, Pembroke and again sponsored by Coastal Cottages, Pembrokeshire.

Coastal Cottages also sponsored the winning teams’ man of the match awards whilst WP Lewis & Son sponsored the runners-up man of the match awards in memory of Stuart Lewis, who was a wonderful worker at Pembroke Dock Harlequins for junior rugby.

Despite inclement weather, the day was again brilliantly supported by players, coaches, and parents alike - as youngsters from the age of seven right through to 16 showcased their skills in a series of exciting finals.

And fittingly, the last clash of the day, the under 16s final between Crymych and Pembroke Dock Harlequins, provided a thrilling climax with the result in the balance right up until the final whistle.

To add to the occasion - youngsters were able to purchase action photographs of their games within minutes if the final whistle, while in each match, the best performing player from each side was rewarded with their team's man of the match award.

Crymych were the main winners of the day as they won all four of the finals they played in, but Narberth, Llangwm, Tenby United, Cardigan, and Pembroke were also able to celebrate silverware.

But Neyland, Haverfordwest, Fishguard, Milford Haven and Pembroke Dock Harlequins, all clubs who may not have taken a winners’ trophy home, still did themselves proud and more than contributed to the success of the day.

Scarlets players Connor Lloyd, Sion Bennett, and Welsh international Rob Evans presented the medals and trophies to the teams after each game - while Evans also handed out the commemorative medals at the end to all the referees and assistants who did a great job of letting play flow throughout the day.

Main organiser Kenny Davies told Pembrokeshire Sport he was delighted with the commitment of everyone involved, and praised Pembroke RFC for their hosting of the event and the junior players for putting on a fantastic day of rugby for everyone to enjoy.

It was the youngsters from Neyland and Narberth RFC who got the day off to a cracking start with a competitive under 7s final.

In the end the Young Otters had just too much for their All Black counterparts, as they crossed three times, with no conversions taken at that level.

Adrian Jones scored twice and Lewy Bowen-Lewis also crossed for Narberth - while Korey Arran deservedly got Neyland on the score sheet.

Llangwm edged out neighbours Haverfordwest as the under 8s final went to the wire.

Ramon Rees-Siso crossed twice for the junior Wasps, and there were also tries for Kieran Sinclair and Charlie Kelly as they played some excellent rugby but they were pushed all the way by the Blues, as Osian Williams, Ashton O’Riordan-Macphee, and Devin Williams made sure of a close finale.

One of the best individual performances of the day came from Tenby United youngster Iori Badham, who ran riot in his team’s exciting win against Pembroke Dock Harlequins in the under 9s final.

He showed real speed and finishing ability as he notched an incredible six tries, while Kyle Rossiter also got in on the act with a score for the Young Seasiders.

Finals Day - Match ReportsBut the Quins more than played their part in what proved to be an epic tussle, as William Price grabbed a hat trick of tries and Tomos Newman crossed twice.

Dylan Rowe also went over, but it wasn’t quite enough as Badham’s heroics were just enough to edge Tenby home.

But Llangwm battled hard throughout, and were rewarded for their efforts with a try from Dominic Asson.

Perhaps the most popular win of the day came in the under 11s final, where home side Pembroke, cheered on by a large home crowd, beat a Fishguard side who were more competitive than the final score suggested.

In the first of the finals to be played on the full Crickmarren pitch, it was Iori Humphreys who exploited the open spaces as he crossed for four tries.

Finals Day - Match ReportsJacob Wright also crossed twice, and further tries came from Archie Hillier-Wood, Jack Jones, and Lewys Boswell.

Humphreys also had his kicking boots on, as to the delight of the home crowd, he landed all nine conversions. For the Young Seagulls, Dan Cleary scored their only try and Rhys Lewis converted.

Players of the match: Zac Jones (Pembroke), Cian Harries (Fishguard).

Crymych’s first silverware of the day came in the under 12s final as they edged out Tenby United.

Gethin Greenhalgh proved the key performer, as he sniped over for two tries, while Owain Evans also crossed. Osian Hill added two conversions.

Finals Day - Match ReportsFor Tenby, Dylan Hughes and Charlie Sangster both went over, and Alex Wainwright kicked a conversions.

But it was the Young Preseli Men who held their nerve in another entertaining final.

Under 13s Final:

Finals Day - Match ReportsMilford Haven 14 Cardigan 52
Referee: Adrian Slade

Cardigan were too strong for Milford Haven in the under 13s final, as they produced a clinical display to cross the half century mark.

The Young Mariners also threatened themselves, and Ewan Badham and James Williams both grabbed a try and conversion apiece.

But Cardigan had too much attacking prowess for Kevin Jones’s side – and scored tries through Brynley Morris (3), Callum Williams (4) and Craig Morris.

Finals Day - Match ReportsRhun Phillips landed six conversions for the Young Teifisiders.

Players of the match: Ewan Badham (Milford Haven), Callum Williams (Cardigan).

Under 14s Final:

Referee: Chris Williams

There was a great atmosphere in the under 14s final as home favourites Pembroke faced Crymych, with the latter having brought down four buses full of players and supporters for the day.

And it was the Preseli Men who always had their noses in front in a clash where both sets of players deserved for credit for maintaining skill levels in difficult conditions.

Finals Day - Match ReportsCrymych led 14-0 at the break, and added three further scores after half time as Ilan Phillips, Dean James, Tom Renny, Dafydd Eynon, and Steffan Rees all crossed, whilst Phillips added three conversions.

But the Young Scarlets fought back well in the second half, and Med Le-Britton Booth and Jared Sherratt both crossed, with the former converting one of them.

But their scores came too late to influence the result, as Crymych bagged their second final win of the day.

Players of the match: Med Le-Britton Booth (Pembroke), Ilan Phillips (Crymych).

Under 15 Final:

Finals Day - Match ReportsCrymych 36 Haverfordwest 7
Referee: Steffan James

Crymych were given an early scare by Haverfordwest before recovering to comfortably win the under 15s final.

The Preseli Men went into the game on the back of an unbeaten season, and sure enough, they pressed hard in the early stages

. But the Blues held firm, and then took the lead when full back Ben Evans showed searing pace to race down the left wing, beat the cover defence, and go under the posts for centre Jacob Lay to convert.

The Preseli Men tried to respond, but with second row Jack Young outstanding, Haverfordwest held firm until five minutes before the break when Crymych outside half Jac Davies landed a penalty.

Finals Day - Match ReportsAnd crucially, the pre match favourties took the lead with the last play of the half, as winger Joe Mansfield created a try for centre Gethin Davies. Namesake Jac converted. Crymych showed their class after the interval, as full back Rhodri George rounded off some slick handling to score – before centre Alex Varney powered through a gap in the tiring Blues defence. On both occasions, Davies added the extras.

Lay was wide with a penalty for the Blues as they tried to reduce the deficit – but Varney struck again as he took advantage of a loose clearance kick to bag his second try, which Davies inevitably goaled.

And the centre completed his hat trick late on with another powerful burst, to produce a scoreline that was harsh on a Haverfordwest side who had been right in the game at the interval.

Players of the match: Will Evans (Crymych), Jack Young (Haverfordwest).

Under 16s Final:

Finals Day - Match ReportsCrymych 17 Pembroke Dock Harlequins 11
Referee: Matthew Evans

A superb day of junior rugby was rounded off in fitting style as Crymych and Pembroke Dock Harlequins played out a thrilling under 16s final.

The Quins led 11-10 deep into the second half, before winger Osian Davies scored a superb individual try for Crymch.

And the Preseli Men were then forced to withstand some relentless pressure in the final moments before celebrating the club’s fourth win of the day.

It was the Quins who struck first as a powerful driving lineout saw second row Thomas Barrass plough over the line.

The Preseli men almost struck back immediately when right winger Osian Thomas was bundled into touch by the corner flag.

Finals Day - Match ReportsBut then Thomas had a hand in his side’s first score, as he came off his wing to supply the scoring pass to full back Osian Edwards.

As the conditions worsened, the Quins went back ahead as full back Ieuan Jenkins kept his composure to slot a three pointer in the wind and driving rain.

But Crymych struck again just before the break, as another Osian, this time left winger Davies, took a short pass from a close range scrum and powered over for another unconverted score.

The see-saw battle continued after half time as the Preseli Men tried to run the ball from their own 22, and it backfired as the Dock were awarded a penalty that Jenkins again goaled.

Crymych centre Sion Evans and winger Davies were then both off target with penalty chances, but then eight minutes from the end, the latter grabbed the decisive score when he took a pop pass on half way, powered through two tackles, and sped 50 metres to score.

Evans converted to open up a six point lead – but there was more drama to come as the Quins laid siege on the Crymych line.

Scrum half Oliver Lewis had been instrumental throughout in bringing his big forwards into play, and sure enough, the Quins forwards hammered away but were unable to take advantage of a series of close range scrums and lineouts.

And therefore it was Crymych who sent their vocal supporters into raptures, bringing the curtain down on another excellent junior finals day.

Players of the match: Osian Davies (Crymch), Oliver Lewis (Pembroke Dock Harlequins).
