Carew Seconds gained an impressive seven-wicket home win to leapfrog Llangwm and move into second in the table.

Llangwm definitely have lost their way of late, and are suffering from a lack of form and confidence, as they tried to get back to winning ways, but unbeaten Carew Seconds outfit were in no mood to gift them any unnecessary points.

Umpires: Alan Hansen & Philip Marsden

But wickets also fell at key times and a draw was a fair result since both teams had contributed to a good game.

Tom Davies grabbed 3 for 5 and Scott Helmich 3 for 15 as Haverfordwest slumped early on – and it was only some good batting by Ashley James, the youngest player in the team who scored 21 not out, and Mike Jones (15) that The Town reached their final tally, with martin Scourfield also claiming 3 for 18 in the Carew cause.

Chris Phillips grabbed an early wicket for Haverfordwest but Christian Phillips (24 not out) and Tom Davies (31 not out) made sure that Carew were always in control thereafter as they picked up 26 points and The Town seconds had to settle for a solitary point!.

Brock boys help beat The Town Seconds

Luke Brock hits another boundary in his top score of 96Haverfordwest 2nds (90 all out)
lost to Llangwm (218 all out)

Umpires: Trefor Evans & John Austin

Scorers: Ros Phillips & Jeff Saies

Llangwm gained an easy win on The Racecourse as they scored a strong 218 all out and then reducing Haverfordwest 2nds to 100 all out, with the Brock boys all making a contribution to their success as Luke Brock topped the batting and  had one wicket alongside Richard and Andrew, who shared five wickets..

Llangwm made a pedestrian start against tight Haverfordwest bowling as they stood at only 21 for two wickets in ten overs but then Luke Brock took a hand in proceedings as he struck 15 fours and two sixes en route to a best-ever score of 94. A century seemed assured but he played a loose shot to a good ball from Josh Wilment and was caught at mid wicket by Idris Davies

Llangwm skipper Chris Inward (28) and Chris Thomas (21) were the supporting Llangwm batsman against Wilment (3 for 30) and Nigel Delaney (3 for 36) with Davies (2 for 56) and Simon Williams (2 for 61) also claiming wickets but taking some ‘stick’ in the process as Llangwm finished on a  healthy 218 all put in 42 overs.

Haverfordwest’s innings was soon in tatters as Llangwm skipper Chris Inward picked up 3 for 4 as he raced in from the top end, with Richard Brock claiming 3 for 16 as The Town 2nds collapsed to 21 for 5 before Mikey Jones (27) gave a little credibility to the scoreline (27), alongside Simon Williams (11) and Mike Hooper (11 not out).

Andrew Brock (2 for 32), Luke Brock (1 for 14) and Andrew Harries (1 for 9) made sure that there was no way back for the home side so that Llangwm claimed a maximum 30 points – and a clear top spot in the table.

Pembroke pounded by Glebelands’ Gang

Gary James - runs and wickets for JohnstonPembroke (100 all out)
lost to Johnston (182 all out)

Umpires: Les Hastings & Rob Elliott

Scorer: Delyth Summons (Johnston)

Pembroke’s poor start to the season continued at Treleet as they made it four defeats in as many matches, going down against a Johnston side which batted, bowled and fielded better than the homesters.

Ian Phillips (44), Lee Walters (22) and Steve Jenkins (23 not out) led the Johnston batting, with other contributions from Gary James (17), Lee Summons (13), Steve Mills (14) and John Summons (12). Sean Powell (3 for 45), Gwyn Griffiths (3 for 40) and Dan Williams (2 for 34) were the successful bowlers for Pembroke.

But then Pembroke collapsed to 47 for 7 against Steve Mills (3 for 9) and Gary James (3 for 25) as only opener Paul White scored 26 runs before departing. Perry Phillips (30 not out) and Gwyn Griffiths (18) staged a mini-comeback but Lee Summons claimed 1 for 23 and there were three run outs which didn’t help the home cause as Johnston secured maximum points and moved up the table as their reward.

Burton last pair holds on for the draw

Geraint Morris swats a six for LlanrhianBurton (177 for 9) drew
with Llanrhian (241 for 4)

Umpires: Richard Merriman & Tony Waldeis

Scorer: Mark Venables (Burton)

There were runs aplenty from the start at Oatfield Park as Llanrhian elected to bat first and their opening pair of Geraint Morris and Ben Jones put on 50 by the seventh over and added another 40 before Jones was out for a hard-hitting 37. Morris, who had top scored with 80 the previous week, stroked ten fours and two sixes as he mover sweetly to 88 but then was well caught by Luke Hayman off Johnny Scale, with Matthew Arundel (15) batting well before Ben Jones hit 50 (six fours) and Matthew Bennett showed how he has developed into a useful all-rounder with four fours and two sixes in his speedy 46 not out that took Llanrhian to a huge 241 for 4. Steve Jones (2 for 42), Johnny Scale (1 for 44) and Morgan Scale (1 for 60) were the only Burton wicket-takers.

Richard Hayman (30) and Neville Davies (31) helped Burton to a steady start but good spells by Luke Jones (3 for 44) and Gary Reynolds (3 for 24) made sure that they were never up with the run rate, with Anthony Couzens (1 for 23) and Geraint Morris also chipping in with wickets it seemed as if Llanrhian would win but they were denied as a result of a last-wicket stand by 13 year old Toby Hayman, who showed his potential with 22 not out, supported by skipper Johnny Scale (4 not out) gave Burton the draw and an extra bonus point.

Jack Murphy - superb 96 for Cresselly 2ndsMurphy’s batting is the highlight

Cresselly 2nds (197 all out) drew
with Hook (151 for 8)

Umpires: Hilliard Davies & Phil Marsden

Scorer: Des Brace (Cresselly)

A splendid innings of 96 by talented young all-rounder Jack Murphy was the undoubted highlight of Cresselly Seconds’ drawn match with Hook as Cresselly amassed 197 all out before Hook responded with 151 for 8 wickets.

Murphy stroked 17 boundaries but just when three figures looked imminent he was caught off the bowling of Matthew Holder. Huw Evans (31) and Scott Arthur (18) were the main support bowlers as Chris Holder again proved to be the spear-head of the Hook attack with 5 for 47, assisted by brother Matthew (2 for 20) and Jamie Phelps (2 for 50).

Huw Evans completed a good all-round performance with 3 for 25 as Hook gave chase through Tom Blaxland (37) and Phelps (18) but tight spells from Sam Harts (2 for 31), Richard Arthur (1 for 31), Matthew Lewis (1 for 17) and Tom Arthur (1 for 21) saw Hook fell short of victory, but gaining a draw as William Goronwy contributed 27 not out late on.

Simon Wood - batted superbly for Carew 2ndsCarew 2nds (176 for 3) beat
Whitland 2nds (171 for 8)

Umpires: Rob Bellerby & Barry Wood

An excellent innings of 84 not out by Simon Wood helped Carew Seconds beat their counterparts from Whitland in an entertaining tussle which produced almost 350 runs as batsmen were on top for much of the match.

Wood had 11 fours and a six in his unbeaten innings but this was an all-round team performance as James Hinchliffe supported with 44, before he was caught by Aled Evans off the bowling of Owain Edwards, and 23 from Christian Phillips.

Nico Setaro top-scored for Whitland with 52 not out (six fours), alongside Owain Edwards (42) and Wayne Johns (28), whilst Tom Davies was the pick of the Carew bowling with 4 for 32. Ollie Cole (1 for 29), Martin Scourfield (1 for 36) and Wood (1 for 31) were also amongst the wickets as Whitland finished their overs on a very respectable 171 for 8.

Edwards (1 for 25), Steve Vale (1 for 49) and Sean James (1 for 20) took wickets for Whitland but Carew had a real match-winner in Wood and they stay second in the table as reward for maintaining their unbeaten record.

jolt struggling Pembroke

Llanrhian (104 for 6)
beat Pembroke (103 all out)

Umpires: Peter Perry & Phil Marsden

Pembroke found it hard going at Llandigige Fawr as they were shot out for 103 runs and although they took six Llanrhian wickets were never really in contention thereafter.

Only Paul White (31), Andrew Price (22) and Dan Williams (14) ever looked settled for Pembroke but veteran bowler Tony Kitchell had them in all sorts of bother with his 4 for 7 haul as Matthew Bennett also claimed 2 for 18.

Dai Jones marked his seasonal debut for Pembroke, claiming 2 for 13 as he bowled in cahoots with Sean Powell (2 for 20), Kevin Jenkins (1 for 22) and Dan Williams (1 for 15) but Ben Jones made Pembroke pay for a dropped catch before he scored as he rasped eight fours in his unbeaten 56 – and Matthew Bennett produced another whole-hearted display as he scored 28 runs in a four-wicket success for the home side.

Hook (90 for 4) beat Haverfordwest 2nds (87 all out) by six wickets

Umpires: John Williams & Barry Wood

Scorers: Joy James & Ros Phillips

Brothers Chris and Matthew Holder helped Hook account for Haverfordwest 2nds as they shared six wickets in restricting The Town Seconds to 87 all out before Jamie Phelps led them to an easy six-wicket success with 47 not out.

Dai Davies (20) and Jonathan Strawbridge (14) were the only early batsmen to look settled against Chris Holder (3 for 22) and Matthew Holder (3 for 26) and it was only a last-wicket stand of 17 from Mike Hooper (11) and Josh Wilment (10) that took the visitors to their still-low tally as Tom Blaxland (1 for 17), Jack Britton (2 for 12) and Phelps (1 for 5) also claimed wickets in the Hook cause.

Then Phelps maintained his good form with his undefeated knock and although Dai Davies (2 for 24), Josh Wilment (1 for 20) and Idris Davies (1 for 21) grabbed wickets for The Town it was Hook who eased home as Blaxland (15) and Britton (13) helped Phelps in the run-making stakes.
