Cresselly (116 for 0)
beat Narberth (115 all out)

Umpires: Peter Perry & Dai Morris

Scorers: Dave Richards & Peter Hughes

Cresselly coasted to a second successive championship title with an emphatic ten wicket victory where the match only contained only just over 30 matches as Narberth were shot out for 116 in 15 overs and Cresselly took about the same time to reach their target without losing a wicket.

Simon Cole received the superb silverware on behalf of the delighted victors, from county chairman Trefor Evans, who reminded onlookers that the trophy was won over a whole season and not just the final day. It was appropriate because Narberth’s performance lacked application but took nothing away from Cresselly’s success because the home side knew what they had to do – and did it.

Put in to bat, Narberth scored 29 runs in the first four overs but lost four wickets as Richard Harries and Steffan Jenkins shared the scalps. Marc Hughes (32) and his cousin Ben Hughes (27) redressed the balance in a stand of 67 but only Chairman Trefor Morgan hands over silverwareskipper Ritchie Adams (15) stayed long otherwise against Harris (3 for 17), Jenkins (2 for 39), Iwan Izzard (2 for 24) and Ryan Lewis (2 for 22).

Narberth’s bowling and fielding matched their batting and Cresselly openers Phil Williams and Andrew Harris sped to 52 for 0 in seven overs – and they were still there at the conclusion as Harris hit the winning runs to secure his unbeaten 51 (eight fours) and Williams stroked a six and six fours in his 52 not out.

Rhys Davies celebrates maiden centuryDavies does wonders

with the bat for Carew

Carew (244 for 4) drew with Haverfordwest (188 for 8)

Umpires: Denis Chiffi & Hilliard Davies

Scorers: Mike Scourfield & Jayne Cole

Matches between Carew and Haverfordwest are always hard-fought and this one was no exception as Carew were asked to bat first and scored a massive 244 for 4 in their 45 overs before The Town responded with 188 for 8.

Carew’s talented young all rounder Rhys Davies certainly showed his batting capabilities in this match as he came in at No 5 and scored his maiden century, with seven fours and seven big sixes before he was out in the final over having reached 104 runs.

Asked to bat first, Carew were given a good start by Robert Hicks as he scored 37 of the first 41 runs before he was caught by Town keeper Huw Scriven having struck a six and four fours. Nick Scourfield contributed 27 runs and Simon Wood had 60 not out (eight fours) as he helped Davies through to a superb century from only 75 balls before Davies finally edged a Clive Tucker delivery into Scriven’s gloves in the final over. Josh Wilment (1 for 55), Avron Roulstone (2 for 49) and Clive Tucker (1 for 52) were The Town wicket-takers.

Haverfordwest lost Danny Potter for 17 and were looking a little shaky on 60 for 4 but had opener Karl Rhead looking likely to claim the second century of the match until he was run out for 91 having stuck 11 fours and a six. Dai Davies contributed 27 and Richard Scriven belted three big sixes in his speedy 23 as Ceri Brace (3 for 48), Simon Wood (1 for 30), Tim Hicks (1 for 48) and Rhys Davies (1 for 20) claimed wickets for Carew.

Skipper Phil Jones gave the final over of the Carew season to prolific run-maker Nick Scourfield and he took a return catch in a maiden over to dismiss Haverfordwest skipper Huw Scriven for nine runs – and Carew had to settle for second spot after leading the table for much of the season.

Smashing send-off for Stewart

Stewart Kimpton - final game for St IshmaelsSt Ishmaels (87 for 1)
beat Herbrandston (85 all out)

Umpires: Steve Blowes & Arthur Brady

Scorers: Wendy Bradshaw & Leah Mitchell

Cresselly said farewell to Aussie ‘import’ Stewart Kimpton in style as he finished off his four years at Tish with an unbeaten 31 that helped them to an easy local-derby win over Herbrandston.

But it was the Tish bowling attack, ably assisted by some good fielding, which set up this success as only Gary Davies (20), Simon Mathias (13) and Leigh Broome (10) managed double figures for Herbie as they were shot out for 85. James Salter (2 for 11) and Andrew Palmer (4 for 20) bowled well for Tish, with excellent support from Andrew Williams (2 for 7) and Andrew Pawlett (2 for 25).

Tish lost opener Danny Flynn for a duck, caught by keeper Lee Marchant off Nathan Banner’s bowling, but Kimpton was joined by skipper Jonathan Pawlett in an unbroken stand of 87 from only 13.1 overs. Kimpton finished in style as he had five fours in his 31 not out whilst Pawlett was back to his free-flowing best as he rapped five fours and three sixes in his 53 not out that saw Tish claim 27 points and Herbie just two points as they faced a nerve-wracking wait to see if they had been relegated before getting the good news that they were safe.

Gareth Virgo - another fine innings for NeylandVirgo helps Neyland take

third spot in the table

Whitland (176 all out)
lost to Neyland (191 for 7)

Umpires: Dave Brandon & John Williams

Scorers: Janice Webb & John Laugharne

Neyland’s 15-run victory over Whitland ensured that they claimed a deserved third place in the table as reward for the endeavours of Andrew Miller and his talented young team.

Neyland’s tally of 191 for 7) owed much to in-form batsman Gareth Virgo, who had seven boundaries in his 76 before he was bowled by Mark Lee, with support from Gary Lloyd (25), Phil Davies (five fours and a six in his 38), and Paul Murray (17) before skipper Andrew Miller (13) and Sean Hannon (10) added late runs from an unbroken partnership.

For Whitland, skipper Mark Lee led by example with 3 for 29 in 12 overs, whilst Matthew Davies was a little more expensive as he claimed 3 for 60 in 11 overs and Paul Webb supported with 1-53.

Whitland made a solid start as Paul Webb stroked four boundaries in his 37 and Paul Davies scored 25 runs before Matthew Davies topped the home batting poll with 52 runs (seven fours). But no-one else was able to stay long as skipper Miller rung the bowling changes well and Scott Jones shows his potential as the teenager grabbed 2 for 37 alongside Phil Davies (1 for 28), Gary Lloyd (1 for 12), John Tennick (1 for 13), Miller himself (1-18) and Virgo (1 for 1) as Neyland earned their eighth win of the campaign whilst suffering only four defeats as proof of their growing status.

Gareth Virgo - another fine innings for Neyland

Danny Caine - superb 128 not out for SaundersfootLawrenny ‘Cained’ by Danny

Saundersfoot (243 for 4)
beat Lawrenny (242 for 7)

Umpires: Tony Scourfield & Allan Hansen

Scorers: Hazel Poole & Malcolm Thomas

A superb innings of 128 not out by talented all-rounder Danny Caine helped Saundersfoot gain a victory over basement club Lawrenny in a run fest at the seaside ground.

Lawrenny started things off with a mammoth score of 242 for 7 that owed a great deal to a fine innings by Steve Lewis, who lashed five sixes and 12 fours en route to his score of 98 before he was run out just short of what would have been a deserved three-figure score. Brad Jenkins (31), Hugh Griffiths (29), Adi Harries (28) and James Buckle (29 not out) supplied the necessary support for Lewis but Dickie Parcell only conceded 1 for 23 in his 12 overs alongside James Caine (1 for 36), Danny Caine (1 for 73) and Sam Butler (1 for 50).

It looked a huge score to chase down but Saundersfoot had 29 apiece from veteran batsman Paul Mansbridge and Yannick Parker, plus other little cameos by Ian Poole (18) and James Caine (16) – but such was the influence exerted by Danny Caine that the Seasiders gained a deserved victory with plenty of overs and wickets in hand.

Cresselly go top of the table as weather favours them

Phil Williams plays the shot that gets him run outNeyland (104 all out)
lost to Cresselly (106 for 4)

Umpires Dave Brandon & Barry Wood

Scorers: John Laugharne & Dave Richards

The weather was kind to Cresselly on Saturday as they travelled to the Athletic Ground to play Neyland and came away with a vital 28 points from a six-wicket victory that saw them leap-frog over previous leaders Carew and on to the top of the table by three points.

Carew were left frustrated, like the other seven teams in the section who found themselves without a match because of the heavy rain, as Neyland’s ground staff put in a lot of work to get the outfield playable after covering the wicket overnight.

Neyland battle back hard

Simon Cole square cutsThey might have wondered the wisdom of their endeavours after Neyland had been asked to bat and were soon reeling at 43 for 8 before the ‘tail wagged’ and they battled their way to 104 all out – and Cresselly looked a little tentative at 53 for 3 when Neyland paid the price for a dropped catch which might have made the game even tighter.

Greg Miller (12) and Andrew Miller (17) were the only early Neyland batsmen to look settled before Patrick Bellerby (three fours in his 30) and Patrick Hannon (22) batted well against Stefan Jenkins (2 for 28), Richard Harris (1 for 22), Simon Cole (3 for 26), Iwan Izzard (3 for 9) and Jack Murphy (1 for 14) all amongst the wickets and Richard Harris showing that he might be the father-figure in the side but holding on to a cracking one-handed catch at slip to get rid of the in-form Alex Kemp.

Andrew Harris plays straightCresselly also lose wickets

Cresselly had key run-maker Phil Williams out for a duck as he risked a sharp single to Gregg Miller and paid the inevitable price, with skipper Simon Cole and Andrew Harries bowled by Patrick Hannon. Cresselly still had experienced performers in Adam Chandler and Julian Arthur, who shared a stand of 41 before Arthur was bowled by Henry Durrant for 27 (one six and two fours). Chandler had two sixes and two fours in his undefeated 38 as Damien Arthur (8 not out) helped him see Cresselly home, with Chandler appropriately striking a big six to finish the game off in typical style.

Cresselly cruise as they beat Borderers

Simon Cole - big innings for CressellyWhitland (137 all out)
lost to Cresselly (138 for 3)

Umpires: Les Hastings & John Austin

Scorers: Janice Webb & Dave Richards

Cresselly cruised to a seven-wicket victory at Whitland as the home side could only muster 137 all out and were never likely to dismiss the visitors’ powerful batting line-up with that sort of challenge.

Paul Webb returned to his best position at opener and scored 43 runs (six fours and a six) before he was adjudged lbw to Ryan Lewis after sharing a third wicket stand of 87 with Matthew Davies, who had ten boundaries in his 46 before he was caught by Adam Chandler off Richard Harris’s slow stuff. Only Paul Davies of the remaining Whitland batsmen managed double figures as they were without the in-form Ed John and Steve Fraser, with wily old campaigners Richard Harris (4 for 27 in 12 overs) and Lewis (3 for 41 in 12 overs) the principal Cresselly wicket-takers, assisted by Lyn Richards (2 for 18) and Stefan Jenkins (1 for 37) as Whitland were all out in 41.5 overs.

Cresselly had opener Andrew Harris in good form with eight fours in his 42 before he was bowled by Matthew Davies, having shared a stand of 67 for the second wicket with skipper Simon Cole, who was finally out with 55 runs to his name, bowled by Paul Webb having rasped eight fours and two sixes.

Mark Lee (1 for 26) and Matthew Davies (1 for 44) were the other Whitland bowlers to claim a wicket but Damian Arthur and Neilson Cole were the unbeaten batsmen as Cresselly romped home in only 27.2 overs.

Andrew Pawlett - strong all-round for TishTish take Narberth by surprise

Narberth (150 all out)
lost St Ishmaels (184 for 9)

Umpires: Richard Merriman & Tony Scourfield

Scorers: Peter Hughes & Wendy Bradshaw

St Ishmaels caused one of the surprise results of the day in division One as they accounted for Narberth, who were seeking third place in the table but went down by 34 runs to a rejuvenated Tish team in which Andrew Pawlett and Andrew Williams caught the eye with both bat and ball.

Pawlett smashed four huge sixes in his speedy 30 off only nine balls after Stewart Kimpton (43, including seven fours) and Peter Bradshaw (33) had given Tish a steady start, with Andrew Williams finishing things off on 29 not out as Tish recorded a very good tally of 184 for 9 wickets. Ben Hughes (2 for 24), Matthew Johns (2 for 36) and Ian Hughes (2 for 39) were the best Narberth bowlers as Ben Quartermaine (1 for 43) also played a part.

Narberth needed a big score from someone to chase down Tish’s tally but Mike Scale (20), Ritchie Adams (17), Andrew Williams (17) and Connor Lloyd 16 all settled but then got out so that ‘Mr Extras’ topped the scoring with 29 runs.

Andrew Pawlett completed his excellent work with figures of 4 for 28 from his tantalising left-arm slow stuff alongside Andrew Williams (2 for 11) who, as usual, bowled with pace and accuracy. There was also a wicket apiece from Andrew Palmer, James Salter and Stewart Kimpton and Jonathan Pawlett so that Tish were worthy winners and Narberth stay fourth in the table.

Tish were sponsored by Leighton Edwards, Catlin Flexible Space Solutions.

Avron Roulston in action as he claimed 6 for 56Town take revenge on Herbie

Haverfordwest (117 for 2) beat Herbrandston (116 all out)

Dave Brandon & Hilliard Davies

Scorers: Jayne Cole & Leah Mitchell

Haverfordwest gained ample revenge for an earlier defeat at Herbrandston as Avron Roulston helped shoot the village side out for 116 runs and then Simon Holliday and Karl Rhead took The Town to victory in only 19.3 overs.

Herbie elected to bat first but soon found themselves struggling at  11 for 2 before Nathan Banner completed another accomplished half century with four boundaries in his 52 from 84 deliveries as Lee Marchant (22), Jonty Bennett (19) and Kristan Bennett 13 helped him take their side to 106 for 4. But then the frailties in the Herbie batting order began to show after Roulston claimed 6 for 56 and Holliday trapped Banner lbw in his 2 for 6 cameo. The visitors lost their last six batsmen for only 10 runs and were 116 all out as Josh Wilment (1 for 12) and Adam James (1 for 28) were also amongst the wickets.

Haverfordwest lost Danny Potter early to Banner’s pace but Holliday had nine fours and two sixes in his undefeated 63 alongside Rhead’s 41 (eight fours) before the latter was finally caught by Ryan Davies off Andrew Bennett’s bowling with the winning post in sight.

Simon Wood - star all-round performance for CarewWonderful day for ‘Woodie’

Carew (126 for 4)
beat Saundersfoot (125 all out)

Umpires: Alan Hansen & Dai Morris

Scorers: Mike Scourfield & Hazel Poole

Simon Wood was the toast of his Carew colleagues as he picked up four wickets and top scored with a classy 62 runs as the league leaders benefitted from his all-round expertise to beat Saundersfoot by six wickets with overs aplenty to spare.

Saundersfoot struggled to 125 all out against Carew after being invited to bat first, with Wood leading the way with 4 for 30 as Rhys Davies and Rob Scourfield shared the other six scalps.

James Caine batted well for Saundersfoot alongside Yannick Parker (45) and Simon Stanford (25) but no-one else was able to stay long as Wood grabbed 4 for 30 and was well supported by Davies (3 for 21) and Scourfield, making a welcome return to first team action after a lengthy injury and claiming 3 for 12.

Carew lost Brian Hall and Tom Richards cheaply but Nick Scourfield scored 34 runs from his openers’ berth and Wood stroked seven fours in his 63, whilst Rhys Davies contributed 14 runs at a key stage. Danny Caine (2 for 33), Dicky Parcell (1 for 33) and Parker (1 for 22) all bowled tidily for the Seasiders but it was Carew who scooped the points and remain top of the table with two weeks to go.

Gareth Virgo - saved Neyland's bacon with vital inningsNeyland battle to brave draw

Neyland (161 for 9)
drew with Lawrenny (209 for 9)

Umpires: Steve Blowes & Denis Chiffi

Scorers: John Laugharne & Malcolm Thomas

Neyland had to show real grit to deny Lawrenny victory at the Athletic Ground as Gareth Virgo and Patrick Bellerby led them from the horror of 19 for 5 in pursuit of the basement club’s top performance with the bat this season.

Lawrenny’s big score owed much to several of their veteran batsmen, not least James Buckle as he lashed 50 in only 17 balls, an innings packed with five fours and four big sixes. Hugh Griffiths also looked sharp with 40 (five fours) alongside Steve Lewis’s 39 (four fours and two sixes), with youngster Brad Jenkins adding 27.

Andrew Miller claimed 4 for 64 in his 11 overs whilst Patrick Hannon (2 for 41 in 12 overs), Henry Durrant (1 for 36 in 10 overs) and Gary Lloyd (1 for 38 in nine overs) were the others on the wicket-takers’ list for Neyland.

Rob Williams looked back to his fiery best as he led the Lawrenny bowling attack with 5 for 39 in 11 overs, whilst Simon Cole (1 for 28), Ian Jenkins (1 for 27) and Steve Lewis (2 for 24) give him strong support. But Virgo survived an early dropped catch to strike seven boundaries in his 76, sharing stands of 65 with Bellerby (30) and then 58 with Durrant, who was still there at the end with 15 not out as Lawrenny came close to winning but Neyland battled their way to a draw.

Runs galore in table-top draw

Cresselly (218 for 9)
drew with Carew (194 for 5)

Umpires: Trefor Evans & Huw Davies

Scorers: Dave Richards & Mike Scourfield

The eagerly anticipated top of the table clash between Carew and Cresselly ended in an honourable draw as home club Cresselly amassed a huge 218 for 9 and Carew responded with 194 for 5 to prevent their neighbours making up too many points on them.

Cresselly lost ace run-gatherer Phil Williams for only three runs, bowled by Tom Davies, with Andrew Harris next to go after he had scored 21 but well caught at gully by Ceri Brace to give Tom Davies his second scalp.

Adam Chandler survives a Carew lbw appealBut Cresselly skipper Simon Cole was in fine fettle as he stroked eight fours and three sixes in his excellent innings of 80. Julian Arthur was at his belligerent best as he rapped four sixes in a speedy innings of 32 whilst younger brother Damian also contributed to the Cresselly cause with 22 as Rhys Davies topped the Carew bowling with a 4 for 42 haul, supported by Tom Davies (2 for 31) and Simon Wood (2 for 42).

Carew opener Nick Scourfield contributed 30 runs alongside 40 from No 3 Brian Hall and Carew enjoyed a good stand of 85 between experienced campaigner Robbie Hicks and Rhys Davies before Hicks departed for 47 (three fours and a six), whilst Rhys Davies was still there at the finish with two big sixes in his 46 not out against Iwan Izzard (2 for 23), Richard Harris (1 for 50) and Simon Cole (1 for 43)

Caine so close to century as Seasiders draw

Danny Caine - so close to a hundred and 4 wicketsSaundersfoot (158 for 7)
drew with Haverfordwest (191 all out)

Umpires: John Williams & Dennis Chiffi

Scorers: Hazel Poole & Jayne Cole

Danny Caine produced a superb all-round performance for Saundersfoot against Haverfordwest but the Seasiders were only able to settle for a draw as Haverfordwest’s greater experience paid off.

Caine first took 4 for 38 alongside another excellent spell of bowling by Nick Cope, who grabbed 5 for 48 as Haverfordwest reached 191 all out, and then Caine belted 11 fours and a six en route to 98 as he led Saundersfoot to safety. A century seemed a certainty but then he attempted another big hit off Josh Wilment in the final over and was caught in the deep by Simon Holliday.

Karl Rhead had two sixes and two fours in his 35 for The Town and Dai Davies had eight fours and a six in his dapper 58 before vital late runs were claimed by the Haverfordwest tail end. Skipper Huw Scriven recorded his first half century in division one with his 57 runs (six fours and two sixes) whilst last man Clive Tucker had three boundaries in his 13 not out.

Caine found willing support with the bat from youngsters Sam Butler (31) and Simon Stanford 21 but Wilment (2 for 30), Tucker (2 for 26) were joined by Adam James, Phil Kirkby and Holliday in collecting a wicket apiece as Saundersfoot reached safety.

High drama before Whitland squeeze home

Iestyn Scourfield - bowled well in Whitland winHerbrandston (83 all out)
lost to Whitland (99 all out)

Umpires: Steve Blowes & Dai Morris

Scorers: Leah Mitchell & Ann-Marie Jenkins

There was high drama as Herbrandston as visiting Whitland were tumbled out for only 99 runs – but then had enough bowling fire-power to shoot out Herbie for an even lower tally of 83 runs.

Nathan Banner (2 for 17), Kristan Bennett (3 for 25), Steve Bennett (1 for 14 in 12 miserly overs) and Dean John (3 for 37) were the Herbie wicket-takers as Whitland wickets fell at regular intervals despite the efforts of Ed John (23) alongside cameos by Dai Lee (14), Matthew Davies (14) and David Dunfee (15).

Alan McClelland batted well for the homesters with five fours in his 28, sharing a second-wicket stand of 33 with another old-timer in Gary Davies (21) before he was well caught by Ed John off Matthew Davies’s bowling. Wickets started to fall again and although Leigh Marchant also managed double figures, Iestyn Scourfield claimed 3 for 3 in eight overs and other goods figures came from skipper Mark Lee (3 for 16), Matthew Davies 3-31 and David Dunfee (1 for 15) so that Herbrandston were shot out for 83 - and Whitland were victors by 16 runs!

Alex Kemp - batted really well for NeylandNeyland stroll to easy win

St Ishmaels (129 all out)
lost to Neyland (131 for 3)

Umpires: Arthur Brady & Arthur Chapman

Scorers: Wendy Bradshaw and Jenny Seaton

Neyland played well as a team to comfortably overcame the challenge of a St Ishmaels’ side which still isn’t firing on all cylinders, limiting Tish to 129 all out and then taking just 29.2 overs to seal their success.

Tish skipper Jonathan Pawlett was the top of their batting chart with 40 runs that included four fours and a six, followed by Andrew Williams (two fours and a six in his 37), Andrew Palmer (15) and Paul Palmer (14).

That Tish could only muster that ordinary total owed much to the accuracy of Neyland captain Andrew Miller, who claimed 4 for 18 after Patrick Hannon had made the early inroads with 3 for 30, with Nick Kooman chipping in with 1 for 24 and wily off-spinner Gary Lloyd finishing with uncharacteristically expensive figures of 1 for 54 in 12 overs.

Alex Kemp again showed his ability in the Neyland batting line-up as he scored nine fours in his 36 alongside Paul Murray (26) before Gareth Virgo saw Neyland home with a neatly-compiled 26 not out. Sean Hannon chipped in with 15 as James Salter (1 for 34), Andrew Williams (1 for 15) and Andrew Pawlett (1 for 36) were the Tish wicket-takers but Neyland were good value for this excellent win.

Narberth too strong for out of sorts Lawrenny

Ian Hughes - in cracking form for NarberthLawrenny (135 all out)
lost to Narberth (136 for 7)

Umpires: Les Hastings & Peter Perry

Scorers: Malcolm Thomas & Peter Hughes

Narberth maintained their fourth place in the table with a win at lowly Lawrenny, who are still unable to find a vein of form as they languish at the foot of the table.

Lawrenny batted first and reached a reasonable 135 all out but Narberth were always in contention and good value for a seventh win of their campaign.

Lawrenny’s total was centred around three batsmen as Steve Lewis stroked three fours and a big six in his 32, James Buckle contributed three fours and two sixes in his 31, and Brad Jenkins was next highest score on 21 (four fours) as Lawrenny were bowled out for 135 with four balls still remaining of their allotted 45 overs.

Talented teenager Jordan Howell claimed 3 for 41 in 12 overs alongside Ian Hughes’ 3 for 44 (12 overs), whilst the Quartermaine brothers shared four wickets as Ben grabbed 2 for 19 in ten overs and Kyle picked up 2 for 24 in 10.2 overs.

Ian Hughes (32) and Kyle Quartermaine (29) then showed their all-round worth to their side as they topped the Narberth batting and found support from Joel Davies (20) and Mike Cole (18) so that although Simon Cole (2 for 23) and Jamie Lewis (2 for 37) bowled well for Lawrenny it was Narberth who went home with victory – and 29 points as their reward.

Last wicket pair seal surprise success for Whitland

Matthew Davies - 63 not out in Whitland's shock winWhitland (192 for 9)
beat Carew (191 for 3)

Umpires: Dave Brandon & Davis Loosmore

Scorers: Janice Webb & Mike Scourfield

An unbroken last-wicket stand of 30 between Matthew ‘Titch’ Davies and Dan James helped Whitland to a surprise win over runaway league leaders Carew, the first defeat for the visitors this campaign – but there was a measure of consolation for Carew in that the chasing pack had their matches abandoned.

Carew looked assured before tea as they amassed a challenging 191 for 3 thanks in the main to Nick Scourfield’s 82 (seven fours and a six) before he was caught by Dai Lee off Paul Webb, plus 54 by Brian Hall before he was run out. Ian Sefton (24), and Robbie Hicks (16 not out) were the other main contributors to the Carew cause as Dan James, Mark Lee and Paul Webb claimed a wicket apiece for Whitland.

When Whitland batted they had useful scores from Ed John (22), Steve Fraser (23), Iestyn Scourfield (26), Paul Davies (13) and Dai Lee (15) but they all got out at key times so that the ninth wicket fell to Rhys Davies (5 for 37 in 12 overs), Scott Helmich (2 for 51 in 12 overs), Ceri Brace (1 for 26) and Simon Wood (1 for 30) with Whitland still 30 runs short of reaching their target. But then Dan James joined ‘Titch’ Davies and was still there at the end with a vital supporting score of 11 not out as Davies rasped ten fours in his excellent 63 not out that saw Whitland to victory.

Andrew Palmer - back for Tish with five wicketsLawrenny (94 all out)
lost to St Ishmaels (95 for 2)

Umpires: Trefor Evans & Tony Waldeis

Scorers: Malcolm Thomas & Wendy Bradshaw

Lawrenny continued their losing streak against St Ishmaels, who moved from their snail-pace batting of the previous week to scoring at over eight runs per over as they easily chased down Lawrenny’s 94 all out.

Andrew Palmer returned from an injury lay-off to spear-head the Tish attack with an impressive 5 for 20 haul as James Salter (1 for 23), Andrew Pawlett (2 for 34) and Stewart Kimpton 2-13 gave excellent support so that only Richard Prout ever looked comfortable as he rapped a four and two sixes in his 29 runs, whilst Steve Campbell and Ian Jenkins were the next highest Lawrenny scorers with 11 apiece!

Perhaps Tish were aware of the weather closing in because they took only 11 overs to race to an excellent eight-wicket victory, thanks to Stewart Kimpton (run out for 22) and Jonathan Pawlett (a four and two sixes) before Andrew Pawlett was even quicker making his undefeated 31 not out as he belted three fours and two big sixes, with Rob Williams picking up 1 for 40 as Lawrenny sunk even deeper at the foot of the table.

Gary Lloyd - superb 7 for 20 haul in Neyland winNeyland survive jitters to win

Neyland (93 for 6)
beat Herbrandston (91 all out)

Umpires: Richard Merriman & John Austin

Scorers: John Laugharne & Leah Mitchell

Neyland gained their expected win over Herbrandston but not before some good bowling by Nathan Banner gave them a bad dose of the jitters after they had sped to 50 without loss before lurching to 61 for 6 in pursuit of Herbie’s less than challenging 91 all out.

Key to Neyland’s success in the field was veteran spin bowler Gary Lloyd, who opened the bowling, with Paul Hannon at a wedding, and claimed 7 for 20 in 12 overs, including the prize scalp of Banner, adjudged lbw for a single. Indeed, the final Herbie total might have been much less but for a ninth wicket stand of 36 between Jonty Bennett (28) and Steve Bennett (17), alongside 12 from Paul Hood. Henry Durrant (1 for 35), Andrew Miller (1 for 15) and Paul Miller (1 for 6) were the other Neyland wicket-takers.

After tea, Paul Murray hit a six in the first over and also had five fours in his 34 as he shared a partnership of 50 with Alex Kemp (15), who was then out and wickets tumbled to Banner (4 for 22) and Kristan Bennett (2 for 290 before Gareth Virgo (13 not out) and skipper Andrew Miller (17 not out) restored some order to the batting chaos to ease Neyland home by four wickets.

Umpires: Les Hastings & Hilliard Davies

Scorers: Peter Hughes & Hazel Poole

There was a good game in prospect at the Lewis Lloyd Ground until rain brought about an untimely halt just after Saundersfoot had set out in chase of Narberth’s healthy 188 for 6.

Ian Hughes was again the in-form Narberth batsman as he top scored with a boundary sprinkled innings of 54 that included several sixes, ably assisted by Andrew Williams (35), Kyle Quartermaine (44) and Richard Adams (22).

Danny Caine (3 for 41) and Nick Cope (2 for 32) bowled well for the Seasiders but no sooner had they started their reply the bad weather intervened and both teams were sadly left to reflect on what might have been.

Richard Harris pulls a ball to the fenceThe rain that swept over The Racecourse spoilt what looked like a nicely-balanced match as Haverfordwest stood at 55 for 2 in their pursuit of Cresselly’s very useful score of 171 for 8. Phil Williams survived a chance at 28 and went on to top score with 58 (nine fours), supported by Richard Harries (four fours and a six in his 45), Damian Arthur (20) and Neilson Cole (18 not out, including a big six).

Josh Wilment showed what a talented young bowler he is for Haverfordwest with best-ever figures in the first team of 7 for 44, with Avron Roulston (1 for 19) as the other wicket-taker.

Haverfordwest moved to 30 before Neilson Cole neatly stumped Danny Potter for 13 and Simon Holliday survived a dropped catch and half chance before his 28 not out was halted by rain – and both sides had to settle for a ‘match abandoned’ verdict.

Cresselly showed excellent batting form as they sped to 249 for 9 from their allotted 45 overs against St Ishmaels but the visitors were unable to find any tempo other than a slow one in their reply.

Tish lurched to a numbingly slow 46 for 2 in the 31st over and only a late charge by Andrew Pawlett, with two fours and four big sixes in his 38 from 21 balls, made sure that Tish passed the three-figure mark as opener Stewart Kimpton batted throughout the innings for 48 not out which included two boundaries!

Peter Bradshaw takes the ball wide before stumping Julian ArthurCresselly raced past 100 without losing a wicket as Phil Williams (35) and Andrew Harris (48) played well and there were other cameos from Julian Arthur (14), Adam Chandler (32) and Jack Murphy (18) as Ryan Lewis belted four fours and three sixes in his rapid-fire 52 whilst Neilson Cole ended up on 14 not out as Kimpton and skipper Jonathan Pawlett shared four wickets for Tish.

Richard Harris claimed 2 for 14 in 12 miserly overs after tea and there were two wickets apiece from Lewis and Lyn Richards, with Jack Murphy making a welcome return to action and claiming 1 for 16. But Tish never looked likely to make a charge at the Cresselly total and the game petered out into the tamest of draws!

Haverfordwest (144 for 2)
beat Whitland (142 for 8)

Umpires: Alan Hansen & John Austin

Scorers: Jayne Cole & Janice Webb

Haverfordwest’s newest recruit Simon Holliday maintained his superb form with the bat as The Town comfortably overcame the challenge of a Whitland side which lost early wickets but battled back to a respectable, if not highly challenging, tally.

Danny Potter hits a fourHolliday, who works at the local hospital, blasted eight fours and a six in his undefeated 73, is known to his team-mates as ‘Doc’ and he certainly put Whitland take their medicine as he shared a three-figure opening stand with Danny Potter, who looked back to something like his best form as he stroked seven fours in his 49 before he scooped a Paul Webb delivery straight into the safe hands of Mark Lee at mid wicket.

In sharp contrast, Whitland lost key run-makers Dai Lee and Ed John early on and limped to 80 for 7 as Paul Davies was the only batsman to look settled with 40 runs alongside Jonathan Thomas (23). Steve Fraser (23) and skipper Mark Lee (29) added late runs in an unbroken partnership as Josh Wilment led the Haverfordwest bowling with 3 for 20 alongside Avron Roulston (1 for 25), Adam James (1 for 15), Nick Dyer (2 for 40) and Clive Tucker (1 for 22).

Matthew Davies (1 for 46) and Webb (1 for 25) were the only Whitland wicket-takers after The Town’s good start but Karl Rhead joined Holliday at the finish and Haverfordwest won by eight wickets, with 12 overs in hand.

Saundersfoot (141 all out)
lost to Neyland (145 for 3)

Umpires: Steve Blowes & Tony Scourfield

Scorers: Hazel Poole & John Laugharne

Paul Murray is known as ‘Minty’ to his Neyland team-mates and he returned to action with a mint-condition performance against Saundersfoot which saw them to victory in only 29 overs as he top scored with an impressive 82 not out that included 11 fours and a six.

Paul Mansbridge led the Saundersfoot batting with 40 out of their final score of 141 all out as Ian Poole (12), Yannick Parker (20), James Caine (20), Danny Caine (20) and Dave Blackwell (13) all got a start but were unable to build big scores as Neyland skipper Andrew Miller claimed 2 for 56 and used Gary Lloyd (3 for 18), Henry Durrant (2 for 21) and Patrick Hannon (1 for 22) to make sure that the Seasiders were unable to build a massive score.

When Neyland batted, Murray found solid support from Paul Kemp (24) and Gregg Miller (13) before Gareth Virgo hit 12 not out from five deliveries at the finish to show that on their day Neyland are capable of playing as well as anyone in the section.

Carew win top of table clash

Ceri Brace goes close for CarewCarew (155 for 5)
beat Narberth (150 all out)

Umpires: John Williams & Dai Morris

Scorers: Mike Scourfield & Peter Hughes

Carew extended their lead at the top of the table as they fended off the challenge of third-placed Narberth to maintain their undefeated record and show just why they are hot favourites for the silverware.

Narberth made a good start as Ian Hughes struck two fours and five sixes in his 51 before he was bowled by Ceri Brace as part of the 17 year old leg-spinner’s impressive haul of 5 for 31. Connor Lloyd also chipped in with 22 runs for Narberth but Carew really put the squeeze on in the field as they took several good catches and  Brace received excellent support from Tim Hicks (2 for 17) and Rhys Davies (2 for 27) as Narberth ended up their innings on 150 all out.

Carew openers Ian Sefton and Nick Scourfield soon made light of the target set for them as Sefton blitzed the opposing bowling with six fours and four sixes as he raced to 68 in only 66 balls before he was caught by Ian Hughes off Kyle Quartermaine, who was to prove Narberth’s most potent weapon with 4 for 45 alongside 1 for 19 from promising young bowler Jordan Howell.

But Nick Scourfield kept things steady with 30 (three fours) before he also fell to Quartermaine off a catch by Ritchie Adams – but there was no let up by Carew as Robbie Hicks returned to first team action and struck 36 not out from 34 balls, with five fours and two sixes to steer his side home, one of them finishing the game off in some style!

Nathan Banner - more runs and wickets for HerbieBanner bang-on as Herbie

win basement clash

Herbrandston (139 all out)
beat Lawrenny (68 all out)

Umpires: Rob Bellerby & Dave Loosmore

Scorers: Leah Mitchell & Malcolm Thomas

Nathan Banner has been in fine fettle for Herbrandston in their first season back in the top echelon and he was again outstanding as Herbie easily accounted for Lawrenny in this important basement battle.

Herbrandston stood at 25 for 4 after 13 overs and then 50 for 5 as Rob Williams (2 for 42) and Simon Cole (3 for 29) bowled good stints for Lawrenny. But Banner found a willing ally in skipper Kristan Bennett as he belted six fours and a six in his innings of 54 and shared a stand of 68 with Bennett, who had five fours and a six in his 50, with no other Herbie batsman managing double figures but with a total of 139 all out that made sure Lawrenny had to bat well.

But Lawrenny had Johnny Mathias run out from the very first ball of their innings and with Paul Hood (4 for 18) and Steve Bennett (2 for 18) sharing 24 overs it was always going to be tough for Lawrenny. James Buckle (17), Adie Harries (15) and Simon Cole (15) managed double figures but Banner wrapped things up as he claimed 2 for 1 from seven overs, six of them maidens, as Herbie grabbed their fourth win of the season and pinned Lawrenny even more firmly to the bottom of the section – and closed the gap on St Ishmaels, who are above them in the table.

Cresselly make sure of second spot

Lawrenny (169 for 8)
lost to Cresselly (170 for 3)

Umpires: Richard Merriman & Barry Wood
Scorers: Malcolm Thomas & Dave Richards

Cresselly made sure they retained second spot in the table, and made some ground on leaders Carew, as they gained a relatively easy seven-wicket win over near neighbours Lawrenny, who remain rooted to the foot of the table, with only one win from 13 outings.

Lawrenny’s total of 169 for 8 owed something to a sixth-wicket stand of 51 between the father and son duo of Ian and Brad Jenkins, with Ian rasping five fours in his 37 and Brad remaining unbeaten on 37, with two fours and two sixes. Adi Harries (18) and Rob Williams (17) were the only other home batsmen in double figures against Richard Harris (3 for 31 in 12 overs), Morgan Gildenhuys (3 for 56 in 11 overs) and Lyn Richards (2 for 34).

Phil Williams gave the Cresselly reply its early impetus with six fours and a six before he skied a delivery from Ian Jenkins (1 for 33) to James Buckle, with skipper Simon Cole advancing to 49 (four fours and a six) before he marched down the wicket, to a ball bowled by Steve Lewis, in search of his 50, and was stumped by a delighted Hugh Griffiths. But Lawrenny hopes of a come-back were soon put aside as Adam Chandler blitzed four sixes in his 30 not out and Julian Arthur had two boundaries in his undefeated 12 as Cresselly eased home with plenty of wickets and overs in hand!

Miller brothers help Neyland to full draw points

Simon Holliday - undefeated 89 for HaverfordwestNeyland (191 for 8) drew with Haverfordwest (214 for 4)

Umpires: Tony Scourfield & Hilliard Davies
Scorers: John Laugharne & Jayne Cole

Neyland battled their way to full draw points after Haverfordwest had batted first and amassed a healthy 214 for 4 in their allotted 45 overs, with all three Miller brothers helping make sure that Neyland didn’t lose.

Leading the way in the Haverfordwest batting was new recruit Simon Holliday, who crafted a patient 89 not out from 142 deliveries, including six fours and a six. He was supported in a stand of 157 by a blistering 78 from Karl Rhead, who belted six sixes and three fours in an innings that only lasted 50 deliveries, plus 25 from Danny Potter. Off-spinner Phil Davies (3 for 23) was the pick of the Neyland bowling as Henry Durrant claimed 1 for 39 as the only other successful bowler.

Neyland skipper Andrew Miller led their batting reply with top score of 45, ably assisted by Gregg (35) and Paul (a quick-fire 27) as it looked as if they might just achieve their target but good bowling from Avron Roulston (3 for 33), assisted by Josh Wilment (2 for 26), Adam davies (1 for 44) and Dai Davies (1 for 28), helped The Town get the better of the draw and the majority of the points.

Narberth (97 for 2)
beat Herbrandston (96 all out)

Umpires: Trefor Evans & Dai Morris
Scorers: Peter Hughes & Leah Mitchell

Another excellent all-round performance by Kyle Quartermaine helped Narberth achieve a comfortable victory over Herbrandston but this was another strong team performance by the home team which keeps them firmly ensconced in the top three.

Kyle Quartermaine led the way with 3 for 12 as Herbie were dismissed for 96, with only Nathan Banner (32, including six fours) and skipper Kristan Bennett (29, three fours) ever looking really settled, with his brother, Ben Quartermaine (2 for 12), Ben Hughes 1-32, Ian Hughes (3 for 19) and Matthew Johns (1 for 15) making sure that Herbie were never able to snatch the initiative.

Narberth lost Ian Hughes (11) and Andrew Williams (29) but Kyle Quartermaine rapped four boundaries and a big six en route to a fine undefeated 39 as Joel davies (8 not out) was there at the end as they helped Narberth pick up 28 points to their opponents’ four points.

Ian Poole - top score for experienced Saundersfoot keeperPoole powers Seasiders home

Whitland (123 all out)
lost to Saundersfoot (129 for 6)

Umpires: Peter Perry & Tony Waldeis
Scorers: Janice Webb & Hazel Poole

Saundersfoot maintained their excellent season with a four-wicket victory at Whitland, who could only muster 123 all out before the Seasiders responded with 129 for 6 as brothers James and Danny Caine were there at the finish after veteran wicket-keeper Ian Poole had given them a good start with top score of 35 (six fours)

Iestyn Scourfield topped the Whitland batting with 33 (six boundaries), supported by Kevin Pearce (25) and Jonathan Thomas 19 but no one else looked settled against the pace of Danny Caine (3 for 25) and the guile of Dickie Parcell (3 for 30). Sam Butler (2 for 27) and Nick Cope (2 for 37) were also successful bowlers for Saundersfoot and Whitland’s tally of 123 all out certainly looked well within the Seasiders’ scope.

Mark Lee (2 for 22) and David Dunfee (2 for 27) bowled good spells for Whitland but Poole found useful support from Nick Cope (24) and Sam Butler (23) as the other Whitland wicket-takers were Paul Webb (1 for 24) and Dave Lee (1 for 16) – but James Caine rapped a quick 17 not out alongside brother Danny’s undefeated 10 runs as they finished in style with a big six-hit! St Ishmaels (152 for 7)
drew with Carew (147 for 9)

Umpires: Alan Hansen & Dave Loosmore
Scorers: Wendy Bradshaw & Gareth Brace

There was a tense finale at St Ishmaels as runaway league leaders Carew had last man Ceri Brace arriving at the crease with just four balls remaining and six runs needed for victory – and he managed to survive the pressure and steer his side to a draw that maintains their unbeaten record for the season.

Stewart Kimpton (35) and Peter Bradshaw (45) both struck seven boundaries and a 50 partnership between Robbie Thomas (31 not out) and Paul Palmer (22 not out) helped Tish to 152 for 7 against Rhys Davies (3 for 29), Simon Wood (2 for 36), Tim Hicks (1 for 26) and Brace (1 for 40)

Nick Scourfield (33) and Simon Wood (30) gave the Carew innings its early impetus but Andrew Pawlett’s slow left-arm stuff caused Carew problems as he claimed 5 for 30, and there was also success for James Salter (1 for 34), Jonathan Pawlett (1 for 19), Andrew Williams (1 for 34) and Daniel Flynn (1 for 21).  It all led to that vital last over and in the final analysis perhaps a draw was the best result of an absorbing clash. Teas were provided by Jo Bradshaw.

Saundersfoot (210 for 8)
beat St Ishmaels (120 all out)

Umpires: Hilliard Davies & Denis Chiffi

Scorers: Hazel Poole & Wendy Bradshaw

St Ishmaels’ recent run of good form was brought to an abrupt halt as they travelled to Saundersfoot and were mauled by Ian Poole and Nick Cope with the bat before Cope again confirmed what a good all-rounder he is with a six-wicket haul which helped set up victory by 90 runs for the Seasiders.

Poole, who is in great nick at the moment, top scored with 92 before he was bowled by Andrew Williams having rapped 11 fours and a six, whilst Cope showed his big-hitting exploits with four sixes and five fours in his 63 before he was bowled by James Salter. Paul Mansbridge was also in double figures for Saundersfoot against the bowling of Salter, looking back to something like his best form with a 4 for 29 haul in 11 overs, James Pawlett (1 for 26), Andrew Pawlett (1 for 30) and Andrew Williams (2 for 34).

Cope then bowled really well to record figures of 6 for 32 as only Aussie opener Stewart Kimpton (48, including seven boundaries), plus Andrew Williams (17) and double figures for Mike Cockburn and veteran No 11 Keith Pawlett, ever looked anything like settled against other useful bowling by Dickie Parcell (1 for 13), James Caine (1 for 12) and David Blackwell (1 for 3).

Cresselly (193 for 8)
beat Herbrandston (192 for 9)

Umpires: Richard Merriman & Steve Blowes

Scorers: Dai Richards & Leah Mitchell

There were runs galore at Cresselly as visiting Herbrandston amassed a challenging 192 for 9 and Cresselly passed it with two wickets and nine balls left of an entertaining tussle.

Nathan Banner was again the top run-getter for Herbie as the teenager belted six fours and two sixes in his 62 and found support from Lee Marchant (three fours and two sixes in his 42) and Alan McClelland (21). For Cresselly, the ageless Richard Harris claimed 4 for 21 alongside Lyn Richards (2 for 54) and Morgan Gildenhuys (2 for 24).

Cresselly’s response was built around 40 from Julian Arthur (three fours and two sixes), Simon Cole (run out seeking the single that would have seen him to 50, with seven fours) and Adam Chandler (five fours in his 40). Kristan Bennett led Herbie with a 2 for 31 haul, in conjunction with Dean John (2 for 51) and Banner (2 for 61) but there was no stopping Cresselly as they eased home to victory.

Ceri Brace - four wicket haul for CarewCarew cruise to vital victory

Carew (113 for 5)
beat Neyland (112 all out)

Umpires: Les Hastings & Huw Davies

Scorers: Mike Scourfield & John Laugharne

Carew cruised to another comfortable win as they restricted Neyland to a disappointing total of 112 all out and then had a steady start from Nick Scourfield and Ian Sefton before eventually reaching their target with 14 overs still available.

Tim Hicks (4 for 24) and Rhys Davies (2 for 38) made in initial impact for Carew with the ball as Alex Kemp and skipper Andrew Miller both contributed 21 alongside Nick Kooman (19) and Paul Miller (16) so that Neyland never had a sizeable partnership. Then Ceri Brace produced fine figures of 4 for 24 from his leg spinners so that Neyland were shot out for a disappointing tally, considering their batting strength.

Ian Sefton blasted three sixes in his early 26 as part of an opening stand of 36 with Nick Scourfield before he fell, with Patrick Hannon (2 for 27), Nick Kooman (2 for 18) and Henry Durrant (1 for 3) taking the wickets for Neyland. But Scourfield had three boundaries in his 40 as he anchored the innings and with support from Brian Hall (18), Tom Richards (11) and Tim Hicks (13 not out) it was Carew who deservedly won this top of the table clash – and extended their lead even further at the top of the table.

Whitland (131 all out)
lost to Narberth (132 for 3)

Umpires: Arthur Brady & John Williams

Scorers: Janice Webb & Peter Hughes

Narberth showed why they are pressurising the top teams in the table as they made the short journey to nearest rivals Whitland and won at a canter by seven wickets as skipper Ritchie Adams led by example with a hard-hitting 55 not out.

Put in to bat, Whitland lost wickets early and were 83 for 6 as only Ed John (17) and David Dunfee (17) ever looked remotely settled against Ben Quartermaine (4 for 43), Matthew Johns (2 for 26), Ian Hughes (2 for 28) and Ben Hughes (1 for 25). Matthew Davies (44, including three fours and a six) was joined by Steve Fraser (17) in helping Whitland stage something of a fight-back but a final tally of 131 all out was fewer than they would have hoped for.

Matthew Davies (2 for 25) and Dunfee (1 for 29) then helped Whitland stay in contention for a while as Andrew Williams (11), Kyle Quartermaine (13) and Ian Hughes (26) offered resistance before Marc Hughes came back from his broken arm to score 12 not out alongside a gritty undefeated 55 by Adams, which contained eight boundaries, and this experienced pair made sure that Narberth were home and dry with ten overs still in hand, and seven wickets left, to show how well they had done.

Haverfordwest (176 for 5)

Umpires: Trefor Evans & John Austin

Scorers: Jayne Cole & Malcolm Thomas

Haverfordwest finally shook off their recent losing streak as they outbatted Lawrenny and made sure that the opposition were pinned even more firmly at the foot of the table.

Lawrenny struggled early on but Steve Lewis (three fours and three sixes in his 38) and Steve Campbell (25) gave Lawrenny the foothold which helped Andrew Cole (32 not out) support a hard-hitting 51 (seven fours and a six) by Ian Jenkins. Clive Tucker (2 for 22) and Phil Kirkby (2-29) were joined by Avron Roulston (1 for 53), Adam James (1 for 45) and Steve Phillips (1 for 16) as The Town were unable to stop Lawrenny totalling a reasonable 175 for 7 after earlier being 65 for 5.

Haverfordwest lost Danny Potter for 17 runs but Simon Holliday and Jonathan Strawbridge shared a second-wicket stand of 92 before Strawbridge was bowled by Steve Lewis for 62 (eight fours and two big sixes). Holliday added 57 (eight fours and a six) before he fell to Jamie Lewis but with 20 left for victory Adam James came to the crease and swatted 4, 6, 6, 4 from the four balls he faced to take The Town to victory in only 32.2 overs.

Saundersfoot (146 all out)

Cresselly bounced back to something like their best form as they bowled and fielded strongly to restrict Saundersfoot to 146 all out and then showed their batting strength as they strolled to their target for the loss of only two wickets.

Saundersfoot’s innings was centred around a typically aggressive 46 from Nick Cope which included four big sixes and five fours, but only Jason Llama, Ian Poole and Jamie Lewis (17 apiece) ever stayed long so that the Seasiders could only muster a final tally that seemed unlikely to trouble Cresselly. Richard Harris (4 for 29) and Ryan Lewis (3-36) were the principal wicket-takers for the visitors as Morgan Gildenhuys and Lyn Richards chipped in with figures of 1 for 33 each.

Danny Caine grabbed 2 for 38 when Cresselly batted, having Andrew Harris caught by Yannick Parker for 32 and trapping Simon Cole for 4 runs but Phil Williams returned to the action with 14 boundaries in his unbeaten 65 and Adam Chandler contributed two big sixes and five fours as the pair put on 80 together and were still there as Cresselly won with plenty in hand as they also reached maximum points with a late boundary hit.

Scorers: Wendy Bradshaw & Jayne Cole

A splendid innings of 92 not out by skipper Jonathan Pawlett powered St Ishmaels to a cracking win over Haverfordwest, a success that was all the more meritorious because Tish limped to 24 for 2 in 15 overs before Peter Bradshaw (43) and Andrew Williams (43) helped Pawlett make a comeback as they shared 11 boundaries.

Jonathan Strawbridge was the main run-gatherer for Haverfordwest as he achieved his first half century since joining The Town and went on to score a classy 73 which included seven fours and four sixes before he was bowled by Andrew Pawlett after escaping the previous ball when he was stumped but a no-ball was called!

Danny Potter came back to form with 44 (eight fours) alongside Simon Holiday (26), Karl Rhead (28) and skipper Huw Scriven (23) against the bowling of James Salter (2 for 55), Jonathan Pawlett (2 for 54) and Andrew Pawlett (3 for 45) as The Town finished their 45 overs on 224 for 7 wickets.

Haverfordwest pace man Josh Wilment grabbed 2 for 4 in seven overs as he shifted the in-form Stewart Kimpton and Paul Palmer early on but then Pawlett moved up a gear after spending most of the season out with a damaged toe, smashing 11 fours and two sixes as he was joined by Danny Flynn (15 not out) in seeing Tish home to deserved victory with eight balls left. Tish were sponsored by Ian Milsom, of the Haven Fish Cafe, with teas supplied by Irene Salter.

David Dunfee - superb 149 not out for WhitlandDunfee destroys lowly Lawrenny

Umpires: Denis Chiffi & Tony Scourfield

Scorers: Malcolm Thomas & Janice Webb

Lawrenny’s poor season continued as they were heavily defeated by a Whitland team who had the undoubted man of the match in David Dunfee, playing only his second game for them and smashing 149 not out before following up with two wickets that helped his new team to a massive 140-run victory.

Dunfee’s superb knock included no fewer than 12 fours and eight sixes as he received support from Matthew Davies (33), Paul Davies (25), Dave Lee (15) and Paul Webb (12 not out as Whitland built up a massive tally of 264 for 7 in their 45 overs.

Steve Lewis was the pick of the Lawrenny bowlers with a 3 for 34 analysis and there was a wicket apiece for Simon Cole, Richard Prout, Ian Jenkins and Jamie Lewis but all the Lawrenny bowlers toiled in the sun as talented teenager Dunfee wrought havoc.

Lawrenny were soon in trouble batting-wise against Whitland skipper Mark Lee (4 for 28 in 12 overs) so that only Ian Jenkins (29), Simon Cole (23) and Andrew Cole (19) managed double figures against Matthew Davies (1 for 31) and Dunfee (2 for 3) before Paul Webb finished things off with two wickets in succession as part of his excellent 3 for 28 spell from eight overs which saw Whitland claim maximum points as their reward.

David Dunfee scored a brillaint 149 not out for Whitland.

Andrew Miller - runs & wickets for Neyland skipperNarberth battle to a draw as Miller brothers play well for Neyland

Narberth (150 for 8)
drew with Neyland (197 for 7)

Umpires: Trefor Evans & Richard Merriman

Scorer: John Laugharne

There was a hard-fought draw at the Lewis Lloyd Ground as Neyland built up a sizeable total against Narberth but the home side did well to hold on for a draw in an exciting finish.

Gregg Miller finally found some form with top score for Neyland of 49 (five fours and a six), assisted by brothers Paul (30) and Andrew (20), plus Paul Murray (28) and Sean Hannon (32) as Ben Hughes (2 for 51), Kyle Quartermaine (3 for 56) and Ian Hughes (2 for 39) were the Narberth wicket-takers.

Andrew Williams (31), Ritchie Adams (21), Mike Scale (20) and Ben Quartermaine (19 not out) were the main Narberth run-makers but they lost wickets regularly to Neyland skipper Andrew Miller (5 for 29), off-spinner Gary Lloyd (2 for 33) and left-armer Henry Durrant (1 for 33) so that they weren’t quite up with the run rate – and so Neyland acquired the majority of the draw points as a result.

Herbrandston (87 all out)
lost to Carew (90 for 0)

Umpires: Alan Hansen & Tony Waldeis

Scorers: Leah Mitchell & Mike Scourfield

Carew showed why they are clear leaders of the first division as they bowled Herbrandston out for a meagre 87 runs and then reached their target without losing a single wicket – and pocketed an extra bonus point because they finished with a six from Ian Sefton which took them into the 90s.

Carew skipper Phil Jones won the toss and invited Herbie to bat first – a ploy which soon paid off as Tim Hicks grabbed 4 for 26 from his 12 overs before Ceri Brace (2 for 18) was joined by Tom Davies, who grabbed 4 for 11 from four overs, including a hat-trick to finish off the home side’s disappointing batting performance.

Then Sefton was joined by Nick Scourfield in taking Carew to victory without losing a wicket as Scourfield anchored the innings with 28 not out as Sefton ended with a boundary-sprinkled 48 not out as Carew picked up 28 points and Herbie had just two points to show the difference between the teams on the day!

Haverfordwest (227 for 7)
lost to Carew (228 for 7)

Umpires: Dave Brandon & Dai Morris

Scorers: Jayne Cole & Mike Scourfield

A superb century from opening batsman Ian Sefton helped Carew to a vital victory at The Racecourse over old rivals Haverfordwest which pushed them a huge 28 points  points ahead of the chasing group in the table.

The Town’s big score of 227 for 7 owed much to the batting skills of new recruit Simon Holliday, who stroked 15 fours and five sixes in his undefeated 135 as he shared stands of 70 with Dai Davies (34) and 68 with Phil Kirkby (21) but Carew did well to restrict Haverfordwest during a 12-over spell midway through their innings that prevented the homesters scoring even more on a good track and lightning-quick outfield. Simon Wood led the Carew attack with five wickets but conceded 76 runs as Holliday and Kirkby went on a late blitz, with other wickets from Tim Hicks (1 for 10) and Scott Helmich (1 for 42), but with two points deducted because of their slow over rate..

Sefton looked in good nick from the outset, despite losing Nick Scourfield for 14, but he was joined by Simon Wood in a stand of 138 which was to prove vital. Wood rasped nine fours in his 63 and Sefton amassed 12 fours and two sixes in his 111 before he was stumped by Huw Scriven off Clive Tucker’s off-spin in a 2 for 59 analysis.

Adam James (2 for 34) and Dai Davies (3 for 41) were the other Town wicket-takers but the visitors held their nerve and eased home with one ball, and three wickets, to spare.

Herbrandston (107 all out)
lost to St Ishmaels (228 for 2)

Umpires: Les Hastings & Huw Davies

Scorers: Leah Mitchell & Wendy Bradshaw

St Ishmaels gained their third win of the campaign as they easily accounted for nearest neighbours Herbrandston as they built up a sizeable score and then bowled out the opposition cheaply as Andrew Palmer, James Salter and Andrew Pawlett all claimed three wickets.

It was a good day for the Palmers because Paul led the Tish batting with six fours and two sixes before he was caught by Kristan Bennett off Paul Hood just eight runs short of what have been a maiden century in the top echelon, sharing an opening stand of 168 with Stewart Kimpton, who had six boundaries and a six in his undefeated 91, as Paul Hood (1 for 68) and Nathan Banner (1 for 39) were the only Herbie wicket-takers.

Alan McClelland (37) and Kristan Bennett were the only Tish batsmen who looked anything like settled after tea against Andrew Palmer (3 for 9), Salter (3 for 58) and slow left-armer Pawlett (3 for 15) as Tish were shot out in 34.3 overs to give Tish a deserved success.

Umpires: Arthur Brady & Tony Scourfield

Scorers: John Laugharne & Janice Webb

Second-placed Neyland came back to earth with a bump as they went down to a 61-run defeat at the Athletic Ground against a determined Whitland outfit which produced a committed all-round performance with bat, ball and in the field.

Ed John continued to bat well for Whitland as he stroked 41 before he was neatly stumped by Sean Hannon off Andrew Miller’s bowling, with Dai Lee (36), Paul Davies (27) and new recruit David Dunfee as the other major contributors to their useful, but not mammoth, total. Miller finished with 5 for 39 and the other Neyland wicket-takers were off-spinner Gary Lloyd (2 for 23) and Nick Kooman 1-26.

Kooman (14), Patrick Bellerby (20) and Patrick Hannon (21) were the only Neyland batsman to reach double figures as Dan James (2 for 23, Mark Lee (2 for 21), David Dunfee (2 for 21), Paul Webb (1 for 12) and Matthew Davies (2 for 19) shared the wickets, ably backed up by some good catching and fielding, which included a run out as Whitland deservedly claimed their third win of the campaign.

Kyle Quartermaine - starred for NarberthNarberth (279 for 6)
beat Cresselly (122 all out)

Umpires: Barry Wood & John Austin

Scorers: Peter Hughes & Dave Richards

Kyle Quartermaine was the undoubted star of Narberth’s impressive win over Cresselly as the talented all-rounder smashed 13 fours and six sixes in his superb innings of 127 and then he claimed 2 for 24 alongside big brother Ben (4 for 43) in what must surely be Narberth’s biggest ever triumph over Cresselly.

Ian Hughes (34), Andrew Williams (42) and Joel Davies gave Kyle Quartermaine support as they raced to a mammoth 279 for 6, whilst Sam Harts claimed 2 for 59, teenager Matthew Morgan, making his division one debut, picked up 1 for 1 for 24 alongside Richard Harris and Simon Cole (both 1 for 50) and Lyn Richards (1 for 54).

Andrew Harries opened the Cresselly batting and looked impressive with 52 (nine fours) but only skipper Simon Cole (five fours in his 37) ever stayed long as the Quartermaine boys were joined by Matthew Johns (2 for 12) and Ben Hughes (1 for 33) in helping Narberth to a famous win.

Scorers: Malcolm Thomas & Hazel Poole

Saundersfoot snatched victory from the jaws of defeat at Lawrenny and after scoring 160 all out managed to take the final home wicket when they were three runs to the good in a nerve-jangling climax to an absorbing clash.

Veteran wicket-keeper Ian Poole led the Saundersfoot batting with ten boundaries sprinkled in his innings of 61, assisted by Danny Caine (22), Yannick Parker (20), Paul Mansbridge and Jason Llama (both 17). For Lawrenny, Simon Cole (4 for 54), Jamie Lewis (2 for 8) and Rob Williams (2 for 23) were the pick of the home bowling as Richard Prout (1 for 26) and Ian Jenkins (1 for 45) were also involved.

James Buckle had eight fours and two sixes in his 67 as he led the Lawrenny batting but only Brad Jenkins (18), Huw Griffiths and Rob Williams (both 14) managed double figures elsewhere in the line-up as Danny Caine grabbed 5 for 59, assisted by Sam Butler (2 for 6), Nick Cope (1 for 31), Dickie Parcell (1 for 41) and James Caine (1 for 16) helped Saundersfoot edge their way through to victory.

lost to Neyland (147 for 5)

Umpires: Peter Perry& Dave Loosmore

Scorers: David Richards & John Laugharne

Neyland deservedly moved into second spot in the league table as this five-wicket success allowed them to leap-frog over opponents Cresselly after an unbroken sixth wicket partnership of 64 by Gregg Miller and Patrick Bellerby saw them to success.

Neyland made a good start as Henry Durrant and Patrick Hannon bowled tight lines so that Cresselly reached only 56 for 4 in 19 overs as Phil Williams led the way with 38 runs. Julian Arthur (24) and Ryan Lewis (14) also batted well but at 112 for 9 they were in deep trouble before Sam Harts (20) and Morgan Gildenhuys (20 not out) added another 38 runs so that Cresselly ended up on 143 all out.

For Neyland, Durrant (2 for 47) Hannon (2 for 30), Phil Davies (2 for 33), Andrew Miller (1 for 27) and Nick Kooman (1 for 2) were the wicket-takers.

Paul Murray gave Neyland a steady start with a good half century which included seven fours and two sixes but Morgan Gildenhuys claimed 4 for 38 as the main Cresselly strike bowler - and at 83 for 5 it was still anyone’s game. But then Miller and Bellerby batted sensibly as they gradually raised the tempo until they reached their target with respective scores of 37 and 23 – and gave Neyland a deserved victory.

Umpires: Steve Blowes & Rob Bellerby

Scorers: Jayne Cole & Peter Hughes

Narberth battled really hard at The Racecourse and earned their just reward as they chased down Haverfordwest’s score of 196 for 4 with time and overs to spare.

Karl Rhead claimed his first century since as long ago as 2002 as the Haverfordwest batsman scored a cracking 111 (12 fours and three sixes) before Ian Hughes took a boundary catch to give Narberth teenager Jordan Howell his first wicket at this level. Ben Field scored 19 before retiring hurt with a nasty hamstring pull, with Dai Davies hitting four fours and a six in his 38 before he was bowled by Matthew Johns, who finished with 1 for 69 alongside Howell (1 for 43) and Ian Hughes (1 for 23).

Narberth built a solid start to their reply and Andrew Williams (44), Joel Davies 41 and Ritchie Adams (30) made sure they were well on track before Mike Scale (27 not out) and Ian Hughes (16) ensured a deserved win, despite the bowling of Adam James and Phil Kirkby (2 for 42 apiece), and 1 for 17 from Dai Davies.

Nathan Banner - starred in Herbie victorySaundersfoot (160 all out)

Umpires: Les Hastings & Tony Scourfield

Scorer: Hazel Poole

There was plenty of excitement at Saundersfoot as the home side tried valiantly to chase down Herbrandston’s useful tally of 174 all out – but failed by 15 runs.

Nathan Banner continued his impressive form in his first season in the top echelon as the Herbrandston teenager belted ten fours and five sixes in his top score of 79, made from only 61 deliveries as his half century was reached in 38 balls. Lee Marchant (33), Leigh Broome (10) and Paul Hood (15) were the other Herbie batsmen to reach double figures against David Blackwell (4 for 57), Nick Cope (2 for 54) and Dickie Parcell, whose canny slow stuff earned him figures of 2 for 11.

Yannick Parker (39) and Simon Stanford (46) led the Seasiders’ reply, with good support from Ian Poole and Sam Franklyn, who had 14 runs each, but Paul Hood (4 for 56) and Kristan Bennett (3 for 43) kept chipping away and Banner completed another impressive performance with 2 for 39 as Herbie claimed their third win of the season – and a respectable sixth place in the table!

Dai Lee - runs & wickets for WhitlandWhitland (194 for 2)
beat St Ishmaels (191 for 9)

Umpires: Denis Chiffi & Dai Morris

Scorers: Janice Webb & Wendy Bradshaw

A superb opening stand of 170 between Ed John and Dai Lee helped Whitland gain a comfortable home win over St Ishmaels as they were able to chase down their target with eight wickets and more than four overs still in hand.

Tish made a bad start as they lost openers Stewart Kimpton and Paul Palmer for ducks, with Peter Bradshaw departing for 10 runs and they creaked a little on 40 for 3 in 19 overs. But skipper Jonathan Pawlett returned from injury for his first league match of the season and six fours and a six in his 53 runs. Danny Flynn supported with 44 in 32 balls, a bright and breezy knock that included seven fours and a six, whilst Andrew Williams scored 41 (six fours) as the other major contributor to a useful Tish final tally of 191 for 9.

For Whitland, Mark Lee (2 for 21), Dan James (2 for 43), Steve Vale (2 for 31) and Dai Lee (3 for 11) were the wicket-takers.

Whitland made a positive start as openers Ed John and Dai Lee ran well between the wickets and punished the bad balls so that they reached 50 and 100 milestones without any alarums – and were already almost home and dry by the 35th over as they stood at 160 without loss. Ed John is a very talented young batsmen in a rich vein of form and he stroked 11 boundaries in his 74 alongside the experienced Dai Lee, who hit 12 fours in his undefeated 84 as a ten-wicket success seemed a distinct possibility until Paul Palmer came on and removed John, quickly followed by Paul Davies for a duck, adjudged lbw - but Kevin Pearce (14 not out) joined Dai Lee to ease Whitland through.

Scorers: Mike Scourfield & Malcolm Thomas

Carew built up a solid score against Lawrenny as Nick Scourfield again topped their batting chart but Lawrenny showed they can battle it out as they finished up with 156 for 7 to claim the draw.

Nick Scourfield came within a single run of a second successive undefeated league century as he rapped 14 runs in the final over to take him to 99 not out but an attempted big hit from the final delivery of the 45th over was stopped just short of the boundary and he had to settle on 99, including eight fours and two sixes, in a big Carew score of 206 for 2.

Tom Richards helped Scourfield add a hundred runs, with his 45 not out containing three boundaries after Ben Evans had earlier stroked five fours in his 40 runs, with only Simon ‘Chief’ Cole amongst the wickets for Lawrenny with 2 for 46.

James Buckle (two fours and four sixes in his 41), Steve Campbell (28), Simon Cole (26) and Rob Williams (23) led the Lawrenny batting against Simon Wood (5 for 55) and Scott Helmich (1 for 29) took the wickets for Carew – but the rest of their attack was unable to claim a wicket and Lawrenny held on at the finish.

Phil Williams continued his excellent batting form for Cresselly as he helped them chase down a decent Whitland score of 159 all out and reach it for the loss of only two wickets in only 27.5 overs.

Williams had nine fours and four sixes in his undefeated 77, sharing a half century stand with opening partner Julian Arthur (26) before he and Adam Chandler (eight fours and a six in his 5 saw Cresselly to maximum points.

Dai Lee had earlier led the Cresselly batting with 38 before he was bowled by Sam Harts as part of a vital 4 for 26 haul from the young Cresselly bowler. Paul Davies (29) and Steve Fraser (13) were assisted by 31 extras as James Venables (2 for 17), Morgan Gildenhuys (2 for 34), Lyn Richards (1 for 36) and Richard Harris (1 for 27) were the other Cresselly bowlers to pick up wickets.

Whitland skipper Mark Lee was the pick of their bowling with 2 for 60 but Cresselly showed how strong their batting line-up is, with Williams certainly leading the way!

St Ishmaels (193 for 5)

Umpires: Alan Hansen & Tony Waldeis

Scorers: Wendy Bradshaw & Peter Hughes

St Ishmaels continued their climb up the table with their second win of the season as they batted sensibly against tight Narberth bowling to establish a decent score and then bowled and fielded well to set up victory by 63 runs.

Stewart Kimpton scored a half century in which the Australian stroked six fours, ably assisted by a gritty 45 from Robbie Thomas, who showed his worth with another six boundaries, whilst Peter Bradshaw and Paul Palmer both scored 28 as Ben Quartermaine (2 for 42), Kyle Quartermaine (1 for 32), Matthew Johns (1 for 33) and Ian Hughes (1 for 33) had success for Narberth, with talented young keeper Connor Lloyd claiming an excellent stumping to get rid of Kimpton and pouching a good catch to remove Andrew Pawlett.

Joel Davies led the Narberth reply with 33 runs alongside Ian Hughes (22), Mike Scale (21) and Kyle Quartermaine (20) but Andrew Palmer (2 for 33) and James Salter (35) made sure that the Narberth batsmen were kept under pressure. Danny Flynn claimed 2 for 31 and made a superb running catch into the sun to remove the dangerous Ollie Cook, whilst Andrew Pawlett (1 for 19) also helped Tish secure maximum points.

Paul Hood - blasted out HaverfordwestHood heads Herbie to shock win

Herbrandston (139 all out)
beat Haverfordwest (100 all out)

Umpires: Arthur Brady & Steve Blowes

Herbrandston secured their second league victory of the season as Paul Hood grabbed six Haverfordwest wickets to send The Town reeling to a shock defeat. Hood bowled with real pace to grab 6 for 47 whilst skipper Kristan Bennett defied a leg injury to pick up two wickets alongside another from Nathan Banner as only Karl Rhead ever looked comfortable as Haverfordwest failed to settle into any sort of batting rhythm.

Equally important, however, was the excellent batting of Nathan Banner as the teenager showed his undoubted talents with a classy 51 that contained six fours and two sixes, made from only 47 deliveries. Giving him excellent support was veteran batsman Gary Davies, with 24 runs made from 76 balls, plus 21 from Kristan Bennett,  both vital since it helped Herbie to their final tally of 139 all out after earlier being 97 for 9 – and typical of the real; grit shown by Herbrandston in this deserved victory!

There was a nerve-jangling finish to a cracking game of cricket at Saundersfoot as the home side pushed table-topping Carew all the way before the visitors showed why they are top of the table in securing the better of the draw.

Nick Scourfield led the Carew batting, as he has done so often, with eight fours and six sixes in his 100 not out, with support from Ian Sefton (25), Simon Wood (21) and Rhys Davies (26), whilst skipper Phil Jones rapped two fours and three sixes in an undefeated 31, made from only ten deliveries, as Carew advanced their score by 119 runs in the final ten overs.

Nick Cope led the Saundersfoot batting with 58 that included three fours and five sixes, with Paul Mansbridge (43) and Danny Caine (47) helping the Seasiders build a strong base against Robert Scourfield (2 for 28), Tim Hicks (1 for 60), Rhys Davies (1 for 57), Scott Helmich (1 for 20) and Tom Davies (1 for 37).

Saundersfoot looked favourites to win with two overs to go as they needed 12 runs with four wickets in hand but Carew applied their grip on events and in the final analysis a draw was perhaps the fairest result.

Neyland moved into third place in the table with their deserved six-wicket success against Lawrenny, who are not playing well and now languish close to the foot of the table.

Steve Lewis ( 22 and Rob Williams (20) led the Lawrenny batting against Nick Kooman (4 for 38), Patrick Hannon (3 for 44) and Gary Lloyd (2 for 5) but a gritty 18 not out from Jamie Lewis, ably assisted by double figures from veteran keeper Dai Jones, helped Lawrenny into three figures with a last-wicket partnership of 30 runs.

Paul Murray opened with 27 for Neyland but then skipper Andrew Miller stroked seven boundaries in his 53 not out, assisted by 17 from brother Gregg as Rob Williams (1 for 31), Richard Prout (1 for 26), Steve Lewis (1 for 15) and Jamie Lewis (1 for 20) shared the wickets for Lawrenny but Neyland maintained their composure well to record a third success of the campaign.

Dai Davies strokes a four for HaverfordwestA superb unbroken ninth wicket partnership of 78 from veterans Richard Harris and Lyn Richards made sure that Cresselly retained their unbeaten record with a home draw against Haverfordwest, although they slipped off the top of the table as a result.

Put in to bat, Haverfordwest lost Danny Potter early but Ben Field led their counter-attack with a classy 52, which included ten boundaries, assisted by Dai Davies (33), Karl Rhead (28), and Phil Kirkby (three sixes in his 47) against typically tight bowling by Lyn Richards (2 for 28), Ryan Lewis (3 for 57) and Richard Harris (3 for 48).

Cresselly lost Julian Arthur as he played on a delivery from Avron Roulston but Jack Murphy and skipper Simon Cole looked comfortable until Adam James steamed in to grab 5 for 44 as the league leaders slumped to 68 for 8.

But then veterans Harris and  Richards, who at one time used to open the batting for Cresselly, joined forces and, try as they might, the Town attack couldn’t shift them, with both striking six boundaries as Richards ended up on 45 not out and Harris reached 33 not out with a minimum of fuss.

St Ishmaels (146 for 7)
beat Lawrenny (77 all out)

Umpires: Arthur Brady & Rob Bellerby

Scorers: Wendy Bradshaw & Malcolm Thomas

St Ishmaels were able to celebrate their first win of the season as they outplayed Lawrenny to claim a healthy 29 points for their efforts as Andrew Williams led the way with runs and wickets, including a hat-trick.

Stewart Kimpton rapped six boundaries in his Tish top score of 40, assisted by Paul Palmer (26) and Williams (22) before Phil Cockburn gave the innings some late impetus with 18 not out from only ten deliveries. Jamie Lewis was the pick of the Lawrenny bowlers with 4 for 31 whilst Richard Prout (1 for 24) and Ian Jenkins (2 for 47) were the other Lawrenny wicket-takers.

When Lawrenny batted, only Brad Jenkins (32) and Steve Campbell (15) managed double figures against Andrew Palmer (3 for 17) and Williams (5 for 19), whose hat-trick came from the last two balls of his sixth over and the first ball of his seventh over. Good slow stuff from right-armer Danny Flynn (1 for 20) and left-armer Andrew Pawlett (1 for 19) rounded things off neatly – and ensured that Tish made up vital ground on the teams above them. Henry Durrant - 4 for 16 as Neyland fight backNeyland make amazing fight-back

Herbrandston (42 all out)
lost to Neyland (66 all out)

Umpires: Les Hastings & John Williams

Neyland called upon all their battling qualities as they recovered from the depths of being shot out for a paltry 66 at Herbrandston to dismiss Herbie for only 42 runs as they bowled and fielded superbly.

Neyland were in deep trouble from the outset after being asked to bat first by Herbrandston skipper Kristan Bennett, lurching to 25 for 6 against Bennett (3 for 18) and Paul Hood (3 for 10). Sean Hannon (13) and Patrick Bellerby (22) were the only Neyland batsmen in double figures as Nathan Banner chipped in with 1 for 2 from seven overs and Jonty Bennett (2 for 4) finished things off.

But Herbie hopes of a second successive victory in the first division were soon crashing around their ears when they stumbled from 22 for 2 to 29 for 5 as Henry Durrant (4 for 16) and Nick Kooman (3 for 9) were the principal wicket-takers for Neyland. Lee Marchant managed a six in his innings of 13 before Gary Davies was last man out for 16 – but with Gary Lloyds’s off-spin earning him figures of 2 for 1 and Patrick Hannon claiming 1 for 14, Herbie were dismissed still 25 runs short of victory as Neyland celebrated an amazing come-back.

Saundersfoot (175 for 9)
drew with Narberth (158 for 9)

Umpires: Richard Merriman & Denis Chiffi

Scorers: Hazel Poole & Peter Hughes

Saundersfoot and Narberth battled to a high-scoring draw but it was the visitors who were left with the feeling that this was a game they should have won as they stood at 134 for 2 at one stage in pursuit of the Seasiders’ 175 for 9.

But then they came up against some good bowling from the Caine brothers as Danny grabbed 5 for 19 and James picked up 3 for 19 alongside a 1 for 33 cameo by Dickie Parcell as Narberth batsmen caught a dose of the jitters.

Sam Butler (43) and keeper Ian Poole (40) had earlier been the main Saundersfoot run gatherers, with support from Paul Mansbridge (31) and James Caine (24) as Ian Hughes changed from his usual pace stuff to bowl spin and claim 4-33, ably assisted by Ben Quartermaine (3 for 24).

Ian Hughes (17) and Andrew Williams (35) batted sensibly for Narberth and a blistering 57 from Kyle Quartermaine (including seven fours and two sixes) took them well on the way to success and in the final analysis a draw was perhaps the fairest result as both sides battled so hard.

Matthew Davies appeals for lbw against Simon WoodWhitland held on for the draw at Carew but the home side still picked up enough points to move back to the top of the table as Whitland now find themselves in bottom spot.

Matthew Davies led the Whitland bowling attack with 4 for 32 as he was well backed up by some good fielding as only Nick Scourfield (2() and Rhys Davies (29 not out) ever staying long enough to build an innings as Tim Hicks also chipped in with 21. Whitland skipper Mark Lee grabbed 2 for 37 and Carew had to settle on 150 for 7 from their allotted overs.

Ed John (38), Paul Davies (19) and Scott Newton 21 were the main Whitland scorers before Iestyn Scourfield held the innings together with a late 15 not out.

Rob Scourfield led the Carew bowling with a 4 for 26 haul and found support from leg-spinner Ceri Brace (2 for 30), Rhys Davies (1 for 31) and Tim Hicks (1 for 27) but they were unable to prise out the Whitland tail end as the visitors refused to submit.

Cresselly batting power takes them to the top

Phil Williams - 87 for CressellySt Ishmaels (192 for 7) lost
to Cresselly (193 for 2)

Umpires: Alan Hansen & David Loosmore

Scorers: Wendy Bradshaw & David Richards

Cresselly again showed their batting might as they easily chased down a St Ishmaels tally of 192 for 7 in only 31.2 overs after Phil Williams and Julian Arthur gave Cresselly a terrific start with an opening partnership of 136.

Tish’s final score owed a great deal to Stewart Kimpton as the Aussie hit a boundary-laden 73 before he was caught by Phil Williams off James Venables’ slow stuff, with Andrew Williams contributing 32 before he was caught by Neilson Cole off Lyn Richards, Peter Bradshaw (31 – caught Sion Jenkins and bowled James Venables) and Dan Howells (19 not out) the only other Tish batsmen to look settled. They advanced the score from 107 for 2 in 31 overs to their healthy final score of 192 for 7 wickets in 45 overs, with Venables (5 for 54), Lyn Richards (1 for 20) and Morgan Gildenhuys (1 for 29) as the successful Cresselly bowlers.

Julian Arthur rapped eight fours and three sixes in his score of 69 before he went for one big hit too many and was caught by James Salter off Andrew Pawlett’s left-arm stuff, whilst Williams looked assured of a century but fell 12 runs short when he was removed by Tish occasional bowler Lenny Rees with 11 fours and two sixes to his name. Adam Chandler rounded off matters with 21 not out and Cresselly were good value for victory as they moved to the top of the table. St Ishmaels’ match ball was sponsored by Dai Cockrell, with teas provided by Jill Pawlett.

Haverfordwest battle to welcome win at Whitland

Phil Kirkby - runs and wickets in H'West winWhitland (205 for 7) lost
to Haverfordwest (205 for 7)

Umpires: John Williams & Dai Morris

Scorers: Janice Webb & Jayne Cole

Haverfordwest returned to winning ways in the league as they held up Whitland after a good start and then batted sensibly throughout their innings before Phil Kirkby and Adam James saw them home with two overs left in an unbroken stand of 52.

Whitland started really well via Ed John and Dai Lee, who put on 108 for the first wicket and both scored 54 runs, with John the first to go, caught by Dai Davies off Clive Tucker with eight fours and a six to his name, whilst Lee was stumped by Huw Scriven off Phil Kirkby having struck seven boundaries. Paul Davies looked in good nick until he was run out for 28 whilst Kevin Pearce (2o) and Matthew Davies (15 not out) also made minor contributions to their solid score of 205 for 7 against the bowling of Kirkby (3 for 50), Clive Tucker (2 for 35) and Adam James (1 for 38).

Huw Scriven (11) Karl Rhead (27), Ben Field (11), and Dai Davies (30) all contributed but The Town were only 83 for 3 in the 26th over before Dan Field (38, including five fours and two sixes) provided the necessary stimulus at a vital time. Dan James (3 for 28), Mark Lee (1 for 57), Paul Webb (1 for 49) and Matthew Davies (1 for 40) all claimed wickets in the Whitland cause but Kirkby rasped five fours and a six in his 37 not out and Adam James provided the perfect foil with three fours and a six in his undefeated 24 to send The Town home with 28 points.

Five-wicket success for Neyland

Neyland (106 for 5) beat
Saundersfoot (103 for 9)

Umpires: Peter Perry & Huw Davies

Scorers: John Laugharne & Hazel Poole

Neyland battled hard for their five wicket success over Saundersfoot as they restricted the normally free-scoring Seasiders to 103 for 9 and then an unbroken stand of 30 by Nick Kooman (14) and Patrick Bellerby (15) saw them home after they had looked shaky at 76 for 5 wickets.

The game’s highlight was a hat-trick for Nick Kooman in his 3 for 8 stint as he bowled Richard Cope off the last ball of an over and then removed Dickie Parcell and Jamie Morgan in similar fashion from the first two balls of his next over.

Neyland bowled and fielded well from the outset to maintain the pressure on the Saundersfoot batting, with Patrick Hannon (3 for 23 in 12 overs) and Henry Durrant (2 for 20) in 12 overs rarely bowling a loose delivery and backed up by good fielding which saw veteran off-spinner Gary Lloyd take two excellent catches, one a real cracker at first slip.

Yannick Parker (24) and Richard Cope (23) were the pick of the Seasiders’ batting as Sam Butler (18) and Paul Mansbridge managed double figures but those three wickets by Nick Kooman meant that the visitors had to settle for only 103 for 9 from their allotted 45 overs

Paul Murray (27) and Sean Hannon (6) gave Neyland a solid start of 38 but Andrew Miller (6) was caught behind by Ian Poole as Nick Cope (3 for 27) and Sam Butler (2 for 10) made sure that Saundersfoot stayed in the game.

Greg Miller opened his season with 16 runs before Kooman and Bellerby finished things off – and Neyland were able to pouch 27 points as their reward.

Brian Hall - top scored for CarewNerve-tingling draw for Narberth

Narberth (126 for 9) drew
with Carew (160 for 6)

Umpires: Denis Chiffi & Arthur Brady

Scorers: Peter Hughes & Mike Scourfield

Narberth battled their way to a nerve-tingling draw against Carew as last pair Matthew Johns and keeper Tom Bevan batted out the final two overs to deny the visitors a fourth win in as many matches.

Carew’s total of 160 for 6 owed much to Brian Hall (45) and Tom Richards (29 against his former colleagues) with Hall bowled by Ben Quartermaine and Richards caught by Ritchie Adams off Matthew Johns. Ian Sefton (12), Nick Scourfield (18), Gareth Lewis (12) and Rhys Davies (15 not out) also chipped in with a few runs as veteran tweaker Matthew Johns marked his first league match for the Narberth first team this season with 2 for 29, assisted by Ben Quartermaine (1 for 27), his brother Kyle (1 for 28) and Ian Hughes (1 for 56).

Tim Hicks (4 for 33) and Rhys Davies (2 for 22) looked the pick of the Carew bowlers against useful Narberth batting by Kyle Quartermaine (27), Ritchie Adams (34) and Dan Hughes (18), with Rob Scourfield (1 for 20) and Ceri Brace (1 for 21) also picking up wickets for Carew but unable to secure that final scalp that would have seen Carew make it four in a row.

Excellent win for Herbrandston over Lawrenny

Nathan Banner - runs and wickets in Herbie winLawrenny (124 all out) lost to Herbrandston (136 all out)

Umpires: Dave Brandon & Tony Scourfield

Scorer: Malcolm Thomas (Lawrenny)

Herbrandston showed that they can battle their way to victory against some of the more established teams in the top echelon as talented teenager Nathan Banner inspired them to a 12-run success over Lawrenny.

Banner top scored in the Herbie innings and then grabbed five wickets alongside a four-wicket haul by skipper Kristan Bennett to earn them 29 welcome league points.

Taking Herbrandston to a respectable tally of 137 all out were Banner, again top scorer with 37 (three fours and a six) before he was adjudged LBW to Ian Jenkins, and Leigh Marchant (32), who was bowled by Steve Lewis as part of a tight spell which saw Lewis claim two for 18 in 12 overs, half of them maidens, to go with an excellent running catch on the boundary rope.

Jonty Bennett (17) and Gary Davies (15) also added a few runs for Herbie as canny slow bowler Ian Jenkins finished with 5 for 26 in his 12-over stint and pace man Rob Williams returned figures of 3 for 41 in his nine-over spell.

Lawrenny lost Andrew Cole and Huw Griffiths for just a run between them and although Steve Lewis (25) and Rob Williams (20 not out) batted well they were always under pressure against Banner (5 for 24 in 9.3 overs) and Bennett (4 for 39 in 12 overs). Brad Jenkins (17) and Steve Campbell (16) also chipped in with runs for Lawrenny but they were unable to stay long enough – and Herbie celebrated victory in style!

Match reports for 15th May 2010

Richard Harris - good all-round performance for Cresselly

Cresselly cruise to local derby win

Cresselly (201 for 9) beat
Lawrenny (114 all out) by 87 runs

Umpires: Richard Merriman & Huw Davies

Scorers: David Richards & Malcolm Thomas

Cresselly cruised to a local derby win over Lawrenny as Richard Harris again showed what an asset he is with 66 runs and three wickets as the front-runner in what was a very good home performance by Simon Cole’s team.

With their regular openers unavailable, Cresselly turned to their former No’s 1 and 2 in Julian Arthur and Richard Harris, who showed they can still cut the mustard in a century opening partnership where Arthur contributed 52 before he was bowled by Steve Lewis and Harris top scored with a boundary-sprinkled 66 before he was well caught by Lewis off the canny slow stuff from Ian Jenkins.

Ryan Lewis (19) and Simon Cole (12) were the other Cresselly batsman in double figures against Rob Williams (3 for 36), Steve Lewis (2 for 40) and Ian Jenkins 2-44 in a final Cresselly total of 201 for 9 wickets.

Lyn Richards claimed 4 for 47 as the main wicket-taker for Cresselly after Sion Jenkins had removed key batsman Andrew Cole from the first ball of the Lawrenny innings, and Harries chipped in with 3 for 17 from his nine-over stint alongside the equally canny Ryan Lewis (2 for 34 in eight overs).

James Buckle (16) and Ian Jenkins (16) were joint top scorers before Rob Williams weighed in with 18 not out at the finish, with Lawrenny shot out for a disappointing total of 114 runs.

Ben Field plays a classy shot for HaverfordwestHard fought draw at The Racecourse

Haverfordwest (177 for 9)
drew with Neyland (166 for 7)

Umpires: Hilliard Davies & Denis Chiffi

Scorer: Jayne Cole

There was an absorbing clash at The Racecourse as Haverfordwest reached 177 for 9 in their allotted 45 overs and then Neyland showed real grit in battling their way to a draw as Sean Hannon anchored their innings with 54 not out.

Haverfordwest lost ace run-gatherer Danny Potter for 13 but Karl Rhead and Ben Field shared a second-wicket partnership of 75 before Rhead was out in the unusual manner of ‘hit wicket’ after scoring 45 (six fours and two sixes) off the bowling of Neyland skipper Andrew Miller, who topped their bowling with 4 for 46 alongside Henry Durrant (1 for 23 in 11 overs), Nick Kooman (1 for 46) and Gary Lloyd (1 for 45). Field looked sure to reach his half century but holed out at deep midwicket to Paul Miller as Andrew Miller was again the wicket-taker and it was only a late 35 from Huw Scriven (two sixes and three fours), supported by Avron Roulston and Chris Phillips, that saw The Town reach a reasonable, if not huge, final score.

Neyland lost their two main batsmen in Paul Murray, superbly caught at slip by Danny Potter, and Andrew Miller, with the score on 19 for 2, but Kooman showed his range of strokes in his 33 before Alex Kemp joined Hannon (who had eight fours in his innings), and supported well on 26 not out.

For Haverfordwest there were wickets for Phil Kirkby (2 for 31), Avron Roulston (1 for 26), Adam James (1 for 44) and Clive Tucker (1 for 33) but the match ended with honours even as Neyland finished 11 runs short of victory but with three wickets still in hand.

Ian Hughes - 37 runs and 5 wickets for NarberthHerbie hold out for bore draw

Herbrandston (83 for 9)
drew with Narberth (142 all out)

Umpires: Dave Loosmore & Arthur Chapman

Scorers: Gary Davies & Peter Hughes

Herbrandston continue to find it hard going in the top echelon as they restricted Narberth to 142 runs but could only manage 83 for 9 from their allotted 45 overs as they held on for a draw when their last pair held out.

Narberth lost Marc Hughes with a suspected broken arm but Kyle Quartermaine topped their batting with 38 before he was bowled by Nathan Banner as part of a 3 for 39 haul from the talented young Herbie all-rounder.  Ian Hughes was just behind on 37 before he fell to a return catch from veteran bowler Steve Bennett, who finished with 3 for 18, whilst Kristan Bennett bowled well for his 2 for 31 in 11 overs as Ben Hughes also managed double figures for Narberth.

Banner maintained his steady all-round form with 21 for Herbie before he was bowled by Ollie Cook, with both Jonty Bennett and Ryan Davies just managing double figures before Alan McClelland held on at the end with 11 not out. Ian Hughes did the bulk of the damage for Narberth as his left-armers earned him figures of 5 for 14 alongside the irrepressible Cook (2 for 13), Ben Hughes (1 for 19) and Ben Quartermaine (1 for 14) – but they couldn’t shift Herbie’s last pair and had to settle for a draw.

Nick copes with Whitland after Danny canes them

Danny Caine hits a boundarySaundersfoot (243 for 5) beat
Whitland (140 all out) by 103 runs

Umpires: Rob Bellerby & Tony Scourfield

Scorers: Hazel Poole & Janice Webb

The combined efforts of Danny Caine and Nick Cope helped Saundersfoot gain maximum points against Whitland and pushed the Seasiders into third place in the table.

Caine, who grabbed eight wickets the previous week, scored a cracking  century to help launch his team to a very big total and then Cope, best known for his batting exploits, steamed in to grab 7 for 20 to really pit the skids under the Whitland batting.

Danny Caine was in imperious form with the bat after Sam Butler and Nick Cope had provided the early impetus with respective score of 26 (three fours) and 46 (five fours and two sixes), both falling to Matthew Davies with the assistance of catches from Shane Morgan and Dave Lee. Caine smashed four sixes and 14 fours in his 116 runs that helped Saundersfoot hurtle to a powerful 243 for 5. Davies ended up with 3 for 62 whilst Dan James (1 for 57) and Mark Lee (1 for 36) were the other Whitland wicket-takers.

Cope then led the Saundersfoot attack and found support from Danny Caine (1 for 34), Dickie Parcell (1 for 46) and Jamie Morgan (1 for 17) as only Edward John ever looked settled for Whitland with two fours and six sixes in his top score of 74 before he was bowled by Cope looking for another boundary. Dave Lee (16) and Paul Davies (17) were the only other Whitland batsmen in double figures as the Seasiders continue to make some of the other teams in the section sit up and take notice!

Carew remain top of the table after impressive win over Tish Tim Hicks - big hitting for Carew

Carew (158 for 3) beat
St Ishmaels (157 for 8)

Umpires: Trefor Evans & Les Hastings

Scorers: Mike Scourfield & Wendy Bradshaw

Carew sit proudly atop the table after a third impressive victory of the season saw them easily account for a Tish side which is currently at the foot of the table with three successive defeats but played better on this occasion.

St Ishmaels made a slow start against tight Carew bowling and fielding but Andrew Williams helped propel the innings with his 67 that contained seven fours and two sixes. Peter Bradshaw (27) and Dan Howells (16) were the other main contributors as Tim Hicks was the pick of the Carew bowling with 4 for 25, ably assisted by Rob Scourfield (3 for 56) and Tom Davies (1 for 9).

Nick Scourfield returned to action and anchored the Carew innings with five boundaries in his 48 not out alongside Tom Richards (26) before Tim Hicks joined the fray and decided that an early finish was the order of the day, belting eight fours and two sixes as his 50 came in 39 balls and he finished up on 63 not out. Robbie Thomas (1 for 30) and Andrew Williams (2 for 32) were the pick of the Tish bowlers but they were never going to trouble Carew’s powerful batting line-up and the home side reached their target in only 34.2 overs.
