2026 Mens Indoor Cricket - Division 1 - Week 2

Pembroke CCC – Men’s Indoor Cricket 2026 – Week 2

Venue: Neyland Community Hub
Umpires: Huw Simpkins & Johnny Lewis
Scorers: Kate Chandler-Hall (Carew), Ginny Davies, Bobbie Neale & Will Davies (Pembroke), Sarah and Kacey Arran (Neyland), Dillon Lewis

The three games played in Division One on Monday created a negative new record in terms of the low scores as players struggled to come to terms with the huge swing of the pink ball and lack of awareness of the stroke-play needed indoors, as evidenced by the high numbers of very good players getting themselves run out.

Each team is allocated a maximum of 12 overs so there are 24 possible in an evening – and on this occasion there were only 34, with the longest taking just 34 minutes instead of the usual 60!

But there were some very talented young players setting out in the indoor game and we at PembrokeshireSport.co.uk hope that they won’t get discouraged and learn to adapt to new skills

On the plus side, there was some excellent bowling, terrific ground fielding and stunning reflex catches, as highlighted below!

Match One:

Carew (40 all out) lost to Pembroke (41 for 0) by 6 wickets

Asked to bat first by canny Pembroke skipper Luke Butler, Carew found it hard going as they faced Callum Davies and Krunal Patel, arguably the best opening attack in the league, and were soon in trouble as Rhys Davies and Logan Hall failed to make an impact.

Ethan and Cory Hall soon followed, as did Morgan Lewis and at 25 for 5 they were in deep trouble, although last man Connor Davies hit out to reach double figures, including a boundary, and with help from ‘Mr Extras; managed another 15 runs.

Skipper Butler took a sharp catch behind from a ball which would have been adjudged a wide if left alone, whilst Gareth Long also took a sharp reflex chance at short cover.

Then Pembroke openers, Akaash Marwadi and Gareth Long, aware that they had all the time in the world, played every ball on merit and took 6.2 overs to reach their target, each managing to reach double figures and with Akaash striking the only boundary of the innings.

Carew Batting: Connor Davies 11, Extras 12
Pembroke Bowling: Callum Davies 3-10, Jay Sutherland 1-9
Pembroke Batting:  Akaash Marwadi 16*, Gareth Long 10*, Extras 15
Carew Bowling: Rhys Davies 0-6

Match Two:

Cresselly (30 all out) lost to Neyland  (31 for 1) by 5 wickets

Lewis Jones - top scored for CressellyCresselly were also invited to bat first by canny Neyland skipper Sean Hannon and his ploy worked as Cresselly collapsed to their lowest score ever in indoor cricket.

Talented openers Griff Jenkins and Milo Jjones were run out very early on – and skipper George Davies suffered the same fate as he came in at No 6 to make it a run-out hat-trick for The Doves.

Sandwiched in between were early departures for Morgan and Josh Lewis so that once again it was the team’s oldest player in Lewis Jones was the only one to manage double figures as Jack Jones took two neat catches off the net wall and Brad McDermott-Jenkins stuck up a hand to a fierce drive and calmly pouched the rebound, to the delight of his team mates.

There wasn’t a single four in Cresselly’s 4.4 overs as Dai Davies, Corey Riley and Patrick Bellerby were the Neyland wicket-takers.

Cresselly had one tiny moment of hope as Jack John pushed a delivery from George Davies onto the net wall before he’d opened his account and Griff Jenkins stoop[ed to take an excellent one-handed catch.

But skipper Sean Hannon and Corey Riley took their time, along with 13 extras, to ease home in five overs so that Neyland were comfortable winners by five wickets.

Cresselly Batting: Lewis Jones 12
Neyland Bowling: Dai davies 1-8, Brad McDermott-Jenkins 1-5, Patrick Bellerby 1-7
Neyland Batting: Sean Hannon 10*, Corey Riley 10*, Extras 11

Peter Soulsby - top scored for HaverfordwestSeth Willington - great bowling for HookHook were the third team to opt to bat second and come away with a comfortable win after Haverfordwest had started really well against hook with an opening stand of 28 between Jason Stobbs and skipper Pete Soulsby – but then Rhys Phelps struck, with the aid of a good catch by George James, to shift both openers – and then Seth Willington struck to claim four wickets in quick succession, three of them for ducks, to give him remarkable figures.

Hook also lost two very early wickets as Jack Thomas was run out and George James fell to a sharp catch off Jac Peters to give Brandon Dewstowe a wicket and Kieron Williams also struck with the aid of a good catch by Jason Stobbs – but Lewis Miller showed his batting prowess as he steered Hook home in six overs.
