2023 Senior Cup Final - Goodwick United Pen Pictures
James Gwilt
Goalkeeper
Aged 39
Store Worker
Goodwick’s veteran goalkeeper in Senior and West Wales’ Cup Finals. He loves to be in charge of his penalty area and is one of the most vociferous keepers in the league as he barks his orders at his defenders. He is renowned for his bravery and is a very good shot stopper who specialises in penalty shoot-outs and one-on-one situations. Played in the team that won the treble of league, senior cup and West Wales Cup in 2015/16.

Ben Adams
Right back

Painter and decorator
Ben previously played for Hundleton and Pennar Robins as a top goal scorer but has since switched to full back and impressed his coaches with his sound positional sense, strong tackling and ability to pass well out of defence. He never dives in to tackles and is also adept at raids up the touchline in support of his front runners. He is also a useful cricketer and a very good darts player!
Scott Delaney
Central defender
27
Youth carer
The team’s captain and a tower of strength at the heart of their defence, with his strong tackling and aerial strength under pressure, as well as being a natural leader who can organise those around him. He is deceptively good in his distribution of the ball to his midfield and is a real threat when he goes up to join his a attack at set-pieces. Scott was a key young player in the treble winning and is now rightly regarded as one of the best captains in the county and will be looking to impose himself in both penalty boxes from the outset.

Steff Hayes
Left back
??
Plumber
Steff is a very useful left back with his ability to position himself well, tackle strongly and play the ball out from the back with ease. Strong in the air and always ready to push forward in support of his front men. Totally committed in all he does on the field. He is a member of the team which won the treble of league, senior cup and West Wales cup a few years ago. Helps coach the club’s under 12s squad.
Sion O’Sullivan
Left back/Midfield
24
Teacher
A real club man who started the season injured well and become a valued member of the squad with his ability to play at left back or at the heart of midfield. He tackles well and his greatest strengths are his ability support others and pass the ball into space, alongside his reading of the game and calm assurance. A forward thinker, Sion coaches the club’s under 12s as a means of helping Goodwick’s development and someone who can be relied upon in tense situations.
Luke Hayward
Midfield
32
Council worker
A very experienced midfielder who has previously won silverware at Johnston and Merlins Bridge but is now serving Goodwick as a real ball winner and excellent distributor of the ball. He is always ready to help out in defence but loves pushing forward in search of a chance to fire the ball home with his strong right foot. Always tries hard to impose himself on the opposition and if he plays well it tends to be the case that his team will also fire on all cylinders.
Rhys Jones

Solar panel worker
Arrived at Phoenix Park after previously playing for St Dogmaels in the Ceredigion League and has turned out to be the catch of the season after being recommended by former player Steve Blackwell. Although he plays in midfield and shows his classy ball play there he is also vying for the club’s top goal scorer title because of his ability to find the net with free kicks from well outside the area and from the penalty spot. He has worked hard to improve his defensive work and is rightly regarded as one to watch in the final!
Jake Smith
Midfield
22
Electrician
Another major signing this season after a short previous stint with Goodwick before honing his skills with Merlins Bridge. Superbly fit, he has really impressed manager O’Sullivan as he never stops running in games and is very consistent, week after week. He is a proven ball-winner from his good tackling and has the ability to distribute possession well. Another who will be looking to catch the eye in the final with his total involvement in all his team does.
Will Haworth
Midfield/left wing
24
Will came from Merlins Bridge and settled in really well - and is very experienced but still one of the youngest players in the squad. A very skilful ball player and natural left-footer who can make devastating runs at opposing defences, often down the left flank- and a good crosser of the ball to lay on chances for team mates as well as often finding the net himself. He helps find space for others with his off the ball running and could feature well on the wide-open spaces of the final!
Steve Dockerty
Midfield

Tree surgeon
A very under-rated player in some ways because he likes to get on with the job and has a no-nonsense approach to the game. ‘Docko’ can play at full back or anywhere in midfield and a naturally strong tackler. He has become a very experienced player and he is very fit, a good passer of the ball and very strong in the air who played an important role in the treble-winning team.
Johnnie Horgan
Left/right wing
34
Bricklayer
An attacking player who can cause real problems for opposing defences with pace and determination down either flank. He is very strong and is hard to shake off the ball and his direct running and good crossing creates chances for team-mates as well as being able to score goals on a regular basis himself with his trusty left boot. Another regular member of the treble-winning squad who can still play a part in the Goodwick battle plans.
Adam Hawkins
Striker
35
Store manager
A very experienced goal scorer or midfield player who has acquired a wealth of experience with a number of clubs and now content to help out at Goodwick when needed. A very hard worker and unselfish player who is terrific in the air and adept at holding the ball up for players around him - and in a recent seconds’ match he showed he has lost none of his touch with a hat-trick. If called upon he could make an impact off the bench on the big day.
Rhys Dalling
Striker
31
Tree surgeon
Certainly a key player in Goodwick’s plans because he is still one of the best goal-scorers in the county as he uses his pace and close ball skills to put heavy pressure on opposing defences. He can change the course of matches with just the whiff of a few chances - as he has been doing since making his mark in the team that gained the treble. There is no doubt that if Rhys is on form at the Bridge Meadow then Goodwick will fancy their chances because he not only scores goals himself but can also set up chances for others.
Nathan Greene
Striker
36
Tree surgeon
Another key attacker for Goodwick as he is strong in the air and a great target man to set up chances for those around him. Gained his experience with spells at at West Dragons and Merlins Bridge, and is a very strong player looking to shrug off opposing defenders and at this age in a long career will be looking to mark his Goodwick career with a senior cup winners’ medal.
Ivan Watkins
Midfield
21
Electrician
Ivan Watkins originally hails from the US and at one stage was involved with Dukla Prague before joining Haverfordwest County and then Goodwick in January and providing another excellent piece in the Phoenix Park jigsaw. He is now finding his footballing feet and beginning to make his mark as a wide front man on either flank in support of Rhys Dalling. Will do a good job if he is called upon in the final.
Kyle Smith
Central defender
16
Student
The younger brother of Jake and certainly one to watch out for in the future because he is a very talented young player who led the club’s under 16 team to their age-group league success last campaign. He plays at centre half and is already very strong in the tackle and excellent in the air - and impressed on his senior debut with his ball control and high skill levels in every area of the game. If he is selected for the squad he certainly won’t let them down.
Kyle O’Sullivan
Midfield
16
Student
The latest arrival from the O’Sullivan conveyor belt who was another major influence in the under 16s last campaign as a leader in midfield who is a powerful tackler and with great vision that allows him to set up attacks with the ability to pass accurately through narrow gaps. He scored on his debut for the first team and loves pushing forward in support of his front runners.
Chris O’Sullivan
Manager
40
Managing director, S7 Fitness
Chris uses his wealth of experience to good effect at Goodwick United, which includes starting out as a schoolboy with Oxford United, then as a YT and professional with Swansea City, followed by Aberystwyth, Haverfordwest County and back home with Goodwick, initially as a winger and then moving to midfield. He also managed The Bluebirds and joined was assistant manager with Nigel Delaney in helping Goodwick to the treble as they beat Hakin in the Senior Cup Final, Morristown Olympic in the West Wales Cup and drew 1-1 with Hakin in their last league game to secure the league title. Back in partnership with Nigel this season, with the roles reversed, and enjoying his involvement back at Phoenix Park.
Nigel Delaney
Assistant Manager

Nigel has played for many years since starting out at Phoenix Park as a nipper and playing well for them at senior level before taking up management and doing equally well in that role. He stays fit and is still playing for Llanelli at over 40 and 45 levels after several seasons representing Wales in the 40-50 age category. He played in six senior Cup Finals, winning four of them and managing two other winning teams as well.
His management record is highly impressive as he was in charge when Goodwick won their treble, was assistant manager to Matthew Price when Merlins Bridge won the senior cup, and was boss at West Dragons when they won promotion to the first division and came runners-up in the Senior Cup!
Lee Morgan
First team coach
32
Co-owner of Station Van Hire
Lee played as a front man with Haverfordwest County Youth, Camrose and Merlins Bridge, and has since become a very experienced coach who was initially involved with Haverfordwest, then West Dragons, Charlton Athletic, New York Red Bulls, Risca and Qatar. He joined Goodwick this season and has head coach and quickly made his mark with his fitness routines, which have certainly raised the squad’s stamina and general durability.
Kieran O’Brien
Assistant coach
34
Plasterer
A Goodwick United playing stalwart for many years, with just a short time at Haverfordwest when Sully was manager, and he was involved in the treble-winning side as a goal-scoring front man who used his pace to good effect with his play out wide as he looked to create goals for others whilst regularly finding the net himself. He has shown great commitment to the cause and this year decided to focus on his coaching more and works well with Lee Morgan in the pre-match warm-up sessions and fitness training.
