Goodwick win high scoring affair at Clarby

 

Clarbeston Road 3 – Goodwick United 7

 
Goodwick United came out on top in a high scoring tussle against Clarbeston Road at Knockfield.
 
The hosts led 2-1 at the break, player boss Matthew Ellis pounced for the opener before Rhys Dalling got on the end of Luke Hayward’s through ball to level matters, but minutes later James Booth was on target to give his side a slender 2-1 lead.
 
Shortly after the break the visitors equalised as Rhys Jones found the back of the net, the visitors got their noses in front as Will Haworth got on the end of another Hayward assist, but the Road kept working hard and were rewarded as Matthew Davies equalised.
 
The Phoenix Lads finished strongly as Steff Hayes pounced for the fourth, Rhys Jones got his second of the game from the spot for goal number five.
 
Haworth also added his second of the game with the sixth and Jordan Griffiths wrapped up the victory with the seventh.

The Rooks are too hot for The Wizards

 

Carew 4- Merlins Bridge 1

 
Carew started their season off perfectly as they comfortably overcame ten-man Merlins Bridge at the Recreation Ground.
 
Rooks’ manager Ceri brace would have felt pleased that his team took their chances and picked up three points against The Wizards.
 
The hosts got off to a dream start as Sam Christopher found the back of the net with barely five minutes on the clock.
 
Just before the interval The Rooks added their second as Jordan Richards made no mistake from inside the box.
 
The Wizards pulled one back through the Rooks’ former player Fraser Finlay, but it was The Rooks who finished stronger as Adam Muskett added the third from the spot plus substitute Thomas Cole was in the right place at the right time to bury the fourth.

Late in the game The Wizards were reduced to ten men as Richard Hughes was issued a red card.

New boys Kilgetty impress with win over Sports

 

Kilgetty 3 – Fishguard Sports 1

 
New boys Kilgetty got their season off to a perfect start with an excellent victory against Fishguard Sports at the Kingsmoor Ground.
 
Last season’s Division Two champions and Senior Cup finalists showed they will be a match for any team in the top flight with this positive performance.
 
Kilgetty led 2-0 at the break, thanks to Lloyd Hughes and Mark Davies both scoring in a good opening 45 minutes.
 
Midway through the second period Hughes grabbed his second goal for Kilgetty’s third whilst in the 77th minute Gary Delaney scored what can best be described as a consolation on a day Kilgetty have sounded out a message for the rest of the division.

Swifts hit newly promoted Saints for six

 

St Clears 1 – Monkton Swifts 6

 
St Clears suffered a heavy defeat against an energy packed Monkton Swifts outfit where Martyn Carroll scored a terrific hat-trick.
 
The Saints were promoted last season and they will feel bitterly disappointed they didn’t give a better account of themselves against the slick Swifts.
 
In a competitive first period the score was level at 1-1, Carroll bagged the opener before Josh Jones got on the end of Will Evans assist to equalise.
 
After the break, The Swifts upped the pressure and had The Saints constantly on the back foot.
 
A minute after the interval saw Ben Steele score his side’s second, on the hour mark Carroll put his side 3-1 ahead.
 
The visitors kept pressing as Blake Smith buried the fourth, minutes later Carroll added the fifth for his hat-trick, late in the game Steele got his second of the match, for his brace.

Tish come from behind to beat Pennar

 

St Ishmaels 4 – Pennar Robins 2

 
St Ishmaels came from 2-0 down to secure a thoroughly deserved comeback victory against Pennar Robins.
 
The visitors caught the hosts cold as they pounced for two early goals through Jamie Grooves and Nick Willis.
 
However, Tish is made of stern stuff and they clawed their way back, Kiran Rendell teed-up Joel Morgan who buried his chance, plus goal scorer Morgan assisted for Nathan Thomas to make it 2-2 at half time.
 
After the break was end to end with both teams searching for the next goal, two minutes after the break Morgan grabbed his second of the game to put Tish 3-2 ahead.
 
In the 74th minute the visitors were awarded a penalty which Groves missed; the hosts wrapped up the match with a fourth scored in stoppage time by Edward Richards.

Champions win high scoring tussle at Neyland

 

Neyland 3 – Hakin United 6

 
Camron Thomas - scored twice for The VikingsChampions Hakin United came out on top in a high scoring clash with Neyland in the opening league fixture played (Wednesday, 31st August) at the Athletic Ground.
 
The opening 45 minutes saw both teams play good attacking football with goals going into the net thick and fast.
 
In the 20th minute The Vikings opened the scoring as Jack Britton set-up Mark Jones for the opener, four minute later Mike Chandler equalised for The Nomads.
 
In the 26th minute Justin Harding played in Camron Thomas who bagged his side’s second, Britton drilled in the third for the visitors.
 
Four minutes before the interval Aidan Rees was on target for the hosts before Thomas got on the end of keeper Gareth Fawcett’s long ball to make 4-2 to Hakin at half time.
 
On the hour mark Gary Hughes neatly tucked it past Fawcett to put The Nomads right back in the game, but Scott Davies’ Vikings steadied the ship as Thomas set-up Britton for his second of the game, but more importantly his side’s fifth.
 
In stoppage time the Vikings grabbed a sixth as Shane Walsh assisted for substitute Laurie Haworth who found the back of the Nomads’ net.
 
Hakin United’s FAW Trophy home tie against Rhos that was scheduled for Saturday, 3rd September has been awarded to the Vikings as the Neath based team withdrew from the competition.
