There was action aplenty in the recent round of games in the Pembrokeshire Ladies’ Indoor Cricket League as the recently-formed teams are beginning to show an improvement and those who have been previously involved know they have tougher games in prospect, as Burton discovered against Carew.

Match One – Pembroke A (29 for 2) lost to Burton (32 for 1)

After being asked to bat first, Pembroke could only muster 29 for 2 against the very experienced and accurate Hook bowlers who are used to bowling good line and length, and the newcomers could only manage 29 from their eight overs as a result.

They lost Chris Penniket when she was run out for 5 and Hollie Allen departed first ball to Olivia James’ pace stuff, caught by Hollie Allen, before Elaine Phillips managed to score 15 not out - but there were a lot of ‘dot balls’ as James finished with 1 for 7 and Becca Barton, Rhiannon Morgan, Lauren Owen, Lucy Luke and Bron Scale also playing a part in the bowling stakes.

It only took Burton 2.3 overs to reach their target, despite Lauren Owen (9) being run out by good Pembroke fielding, and Becca Barton (13 not out) and Lucy Luke (8 not out) saw them home as Leanne Panton,  Hollie Allen and Bobby Neale were the Pembroke bowlers.

Pembroke

Match Two - Hook (90 for 1) beat Pembroke A (55 for 2)

Jemma PhillipsHook demonstrated their batting skills against Pembroke A as they sped to 90 for the loss of 1 wicket, when Maisie Davies was run out for 12 at a run a ball, but the tempo increased as Jemma Phillips  (25 in 12 balls) and Kacey Arran (26 off only nine deliveries) both had to retire.

Sam Rossiter chipped in with an unbeaten 16 (9 balls) as Jo Kerrison was forced to retire hurt before Paula Rees was not out at the end of a challenging total.

Nicola White was the pick of the bowling with only 13 runs conceded from her two overs as Leanne Panton, Rebecca and Ginny Davies were the other Pembroke bowlers used.

Pembroke showed how they are gaining in experience with a much better batting performance in this game; they just need now to increase their tempo and limit the number of balls that are not scored off
Openers Nicola White (17) and Ginny Davies (13) gave them a solid start but were respectively run out by the sharp reflexes of Arran and Phillips before Leanne Panton showed the way with 12 from only five balls faced.

Rebecca Davies added a late 5 not out and there were 10 extras as Kacey Arran bowled the only maiden of the match when she bowled well at the start alongside Maisie Davies before Jemma Phillips (0 for 24) and Paula Rees (0 for 14) also managed to help their side to victory by 35 runs.

Burton

Match Three - Burton (53 for 6) lost to Carew (54 for 3)

Kate Chandler-HallCarew showed their capabilities with a good win over favourites Burton after restricting them to 53 all out and reaching their target for the loss of only three wickets.

Burton batted first but rarely looked likely to build a big score as Bron Scale (5), Rhiannon Morgan (9), Rebecca Barton (3), Lauren Owens (6) and Lucy Luke (0) came and went as only Olivia James looked settled until she was bowled by Kate Chandler-Hall for 27 as part of a splendid 3 for 15 haul, along with an equally vital 2 for 2 for 12 spell by Lily Cole. As a result, Burton finished with a below-par score.

Carew were needing a good start to their response and got it as Lily Buckle and Kate Chandler-Hall batted well before the latter departed for 13, caught by Olivia James, bowled by Lucy Luke, and Buckle looked in good nick before getting caught by Bron Scale to give Luke her second wicket.

Jacqui Goodwin G was run out by Lucy Owens without scoring but Burton hopes were ruined as Sian Cole finished on 9 not out and Lily Cole (11 not out) kept the Carew innings on track and a cracking win as a result!

Carew

Match Four - Hook (77 for 1) beat Carew (64 for 4)

Carew were unable to complete a win double though as they went down to defeat by only 13 runs against Hook, despite putting on a brave performance.

Jemma Phillips (25) and Sam Rossiter (25) both put on runs at a healthy rate before retiring whilst Kasey Arran supported with 22 before being run out in a score of 77 for 1, which was regarded as decent but within reach of Carew’s batting if they went well. The Carew bowlers, led by Lily Cole and Sian Cole, never let them run amok.

Lily Buckle and Kate Chandler-Hall again opened well for Carew before Chandler-Hall was caught by Maisie Davies off Jemma Phillips for 16 and Lily Cole was run out without scoring - but they were still in contention until Jemma Phillips ended up with a terrific 3 for 16 analysis and Carew struggled late on, despite another excellent innings from Lily Buckle of 31 not out.
