2022 Harrison-Allen Bowl Final - Haverfordwest CC Pen Pictures
Dai Davies (Captain)
38
Railway Worker
A very talented run-maker who has taken on the role of captain and is now in his 11
th final at the club. He is the mainstay of their batting with his ability to assess situations and bat long, as he has done in some difficult situations this season. ‘Dapper’ is very quick between the wickets and an excellent stroke-maker – and a bonus is the fact that he can use his medium pacers to good effect if the need arises.
Mikey Jones
33
Teacher
Mikey is likely he will open the batting and look to give The Town a solid start as others go for quick early runs. He is an excellent timer of the ball and can play shots all around the wicket, as well as being a very good fielder where he uses the handling skills he has acquired as a very good outside half for the town’s rugby team.
Adam James
31
Builder
Arguably the key player in the Haverfordwest team because of his brutal batting that can destroy a team in a space of ten overs, as he did in the 2019 final against Lawrenny, when his two innings of 80+ were achieved after very little participation over the previous month. This will be his eighth final as he battles on despite carrying injuries and was once a fiery fast bowler too – but The Town will be looking for big runs from their giant, which puts added pressure on him to score big!
Ben Field
43
Head of Grass Roots Football with Welsh FA
For so long the back-bone of the team with his fluent stroke play which has earned him praise across the county, alongside the way that he plays the game, and this will be his ninth final, with one for Hook in his much younger days and the rest for The Town. He is a superb timer of the ball and also an excellent tactician who has helped captains along the way in this form of the game. Another very modest but competitive player who is hugely respected.
Archie Thomas
23
Learning Coach at Haverfordwest High
This will be Archie’s third final and he is a good all-rounder who will look to make his mark as he bowls medium-fast and can hit quick runs as a middle order batsman, once he gets his eye in. He is also a very good fielder and is a real all-rounder in sport because he can play full back or flanker for Haverfordwest in rugby and recently played in midfield for the Clarbeston Road football team which win the John Bailey Cup in Goodwick!
Chris Phillips
32
Accountant
After a number of finals where he picked up a medal as 12
th man as an excellent club man ready to serve in any capacity and he is certainly looking to make an impact in his first full final. Off the field he now pays the bills as the club’s Hon Treasurer and will feature on it as a medium fast bowler and lower middle order batsman who can score his runs quickly. No mug in the field either!
Jake Merry
21
Process Operator, Valero
Jake has already played in two finals, with one win and one loss, as the club has made use of his all-round contribution as a solid middle-order batsman, useful right-arm medium-pace bowling and the bonus of being a very good boundary fielder with a very safe pair of hands. Jake is well-used to picking up trophies because in his other sport of football he is a regular in the Hakin United first team, where he helped The Vikings win the league and Senior Cup double last season.
Kieran O’Connor
23
Marine Engineer
Just qualified in university and returned home in time to feature as part of the squad, with his ability to bowl accurate off-spin and score runs at a good rate with his potent mixture of correct stroke play and ability to hit out when needed. Kieran is also a more than useful fielder and is sure to play a key role in his skipper’s battle plans!
Ashley James
26
Plater
‘Ash’ has played much of his cricket in the second team, gaining experience all the time, and he now plays regularly as a first team fast bowler who never gives less than 100%. Big and strong, he can also it the ball many a mile, like his big brother, and can be counted on to lead by example in the field, where he fields in the deep and has a mighty throw to keep batsmen on their toes. Certainly one of the most popular players with his team-mates and everyone at the club.
Clive Tucker
50
Stores Assistant
Now the ‘grand old man’ of the team but still playing a key bowling role with his canny slow stuff that regularly brings him his share of the wickets and always at an economical rate – which is why in the 22-over game he sometimes opens the bowling. This will be his 12
th final as reward for his total loyalty to The Town, and highly respected across the county for the way he plays the game.
Johnny White
21
Hospital Worker
This will be Johnny’s second final after a defeat against Neyland in 2020 and he will be looking to provide the pace bowling early in the opposition’s innings whilst maintaining his accuracy. A county regular throughout his junior days and did play for Pontarddulais for one season before moving back to Haverfordwest, where he also plays rugby for the town’s team as a very pacy winger or full back.
Jack Scriven
21
Ops Apprentice, Valero
Jack has already played in two finals at such a young age as he follows his father Huw with the team’s wicket-keeping gloves and growing in confidence with ever game under his belt. He is a very useful lower middle order batsman who can score runs under pressure and puts pressure on opposition batting with his ability to stand up to the stumps.
Will Phillips
17
College Student
Will is a very promising young cricketer who has forced his way into the first team as a fast bowler who can claim early wickets or come back for a second stint later. He proved his worth in the first round with a terrific 5 for 30 haul that helped The Town to victory against Narberth and grabbed 3 for 3 in a big league win against Saundersfoot.
Danny Potter
40
School Business Manager
Has played limited cricket this season because of family commitments but is available for the final and if selected will certainly lend a great deal of experience as someone who has played in seven previous finals, three of them as a winning Bowl captain against Cresselly (twice) and Lawrenny. ‘Potts’ has a proven record as a classy batsman (79 not out as top in a final) and used to be known as a bit of a sledger of opposing batsman – but says he has grown more mature with age!
