Rugby Forecasts
Fixtures 11th February 2012
Division One (West):
Ammanford v Narberth
On paper this should be an easy trek for Narberth because Ammanford are 11th in the table and struggling for points, whilst the Otters are sitting pretty on top of the table.
Verdict: Narberth won 43-7 at home and although I don’t expect such a big winning margin they should be looking for a bonus point!
Whitland v Tondu
The Borderers won 27-21 at Tondu and now play host to them at Parc Lloyd Thomas in search of a league double.
Verdict: Whitland are third whilst Tondu are tenth – and the Borderers should be capable of a bonus-point success here.
Division Two (West):
Kidwelly v Crymych
Crymych face another tough tussle as they take on a Kidwelly side in seventh spot, four places above the Preseli Men. Kidwelly won 17-10 at Parc Lloyd Thomas but will find Crymych a different proposition now they have gained in experience.
Verdict: It could be close but I think home advantage will swing it in Kidwelly’s favour.
Division Three (West):
Haverfordwest v Tenby United
A Pembrokeshire derby to savour as table-topping Haverfordwest entertain a resurgent Tenby United outfit who are beginning to look like a very good team, despite their eighth place in the table.
Verdict: Haverfordwest won 34-17 at Heywood Lane and I think they will achieve the double – but I could be wrong!
Cardigan v Dunvant
Cardigan play host to Dunvant looking to redress the balance after losing in the corresponding away fixture by 26-17. Dunvant are currently in second place whilst the Teifisiders are sixth.
Verdict: If the Cardis play to their best form they might upset Dunvant but on current form it could be the visitors to complete a double.
Division Four (West):
Aberaeron v Milford Haven
Milford Haven recently beat Aberaeron at home in the Swalec competition and also won their home match in the league by 33-18 so they will seek a treble when they travel up the coast road on Cardigan Bay.
Verdict: It could be a tough match for Alan McClelland’s boys but they should be able to win here and keep pushing for the section silverware.
Laugharne v Neyland
Neyland travel to Laugharne knowing that they could snatch a win against a side that is only three places above them in the table.
Verdict: The All Blacks lost 30-25 at home and I hope they can gain revenge here – but I have to go for Laugharne on form.
Division Five (West):
Llangwm v Pembroke
A popular local derby where the teams have traditionally enjoyed each other’s company – and with Pembroke having already beaten the Wasps by 53-5 at Crickmarren.
Verdict: The Scarlets to complete the double but not by anywhere like such a big score!
Fishguard & Goodwick v St Davids
Another local derby between eager rivals as Fishguard and Goodwick entertain St Davids at The Moors. Fishguard are top and won in St Davids (now 11th in the table) by 31-21.
Verdict: Another win for the Seagulls – who will be looking for a bonus point to keep their charge going!
Pembroke Dock Harlequins v Nantgaredig
Nantgaredig still have their eyes on the section silverware but will be pushed all the way by a Quins’ team that has grown so much since their poor start to the campaign.
Verdict: Nantgaredig strolled to a 37-0 success at home but they will find the Quins a different prospect now!
