Indoor Cricket – Week Seven:
Neyland make it an indoor hat-trick
Venue: The Meads Leisure Centre, Milford Haven
Participating Teams: Haverfordwest A, Cresselly, Neyland, and Whitland
Umpires: Alan Hansen and John Williams
Scorers: Jenny Seaton, Nigel Morgan and Paul Miller
** The games were held under the auspices of the Pembroke County Cricket Club and sponsored by Nick Evans of the Cricket Shop, Narberth. **
Neyland showed just why they are current Welsh Indoor Cricket champions as they completed their matches in this year’s Pembrokeshire competition with a narrow win over fellow title hopefuls Whitland in the last match of this campaign.
Both teams went into action with 100% records and although their tussle was hard an uncompromising it was always played in the best of spirits and had regular umpire Alan Hansen describing it as the best indoor match he had ever officiated at.
The trophy was presented to Neyland skipper Gregg Miller by Bill Carne, who shared that sentiment and congratulated both teams on their performances, as well as saying well done to sponsor Nick Evans, organiser Wendy Bradshaw, umpires Alan Hansen, John Williams and Les Hastings, plus regular scorer Jenny Seaton. Gregg completed a memorable day by also winning the raffle prize of a brand new bat, again presented by Nick Evans!

Game One
Cresselly (71 for 2)
lost to Whitland (73 for 3)
Whitland made sure of victory in this opening match despite some good batting by Cresselly’s Nick Davies, Matthew Morgan, Steve and Harry Davies Thomas, who all had useful knocks but couldn’t raise the tempo against Whitland’s controlled fielding display.
It was never going to be a total likely to challenge Whitland and although Harry Thomas and Nick Davies took excellent low catches it was Paul Davies and David Dunfee who made sure that Whitland won their fifth match from as many starts, with 3.6 overs still in hand.

Game Two
Haverfordwest A (75 for 5)
lost to Cresselly (104 for 1)
Haverfordwest batted first against Cresselly and openers Danny Potter and Huw Scriven both batted well, both hitting sixes before retiring, with the score on 58 at the half way point of the innings. Andrew Phillips and Clive Tucker stayed unbeaten as they also managed double figures so that The Town reached a creditable 104 for 1 in their allotted ten overs.
Cresselly also started well via Nick Davies and Matthew Morgan as they put on 38 runs in four overs but then Cresselly again failed to raise the tempo and had to settle for 75 for 5 in their ten overs as their final four overs brought them only 24 runs.

Game Three
Neyland (116 for 4)
beat Whitland (108 all out)
Neyland made a good start through Gregg Miller and Paul Murray, the former run out by some good work from Iestyn Scourfield and keeper Steve Fraser, and the latter unluckily departing to a return catch from Dave Lee when a six looked more of a possibility.
Andrew Miller batted sensibly and Nick Koomen provided the spurt at the right time with two fours and two sixes in his 30 runs before he was also run out, whilst Lee finished as the pick of the Whitland bowlers with 2 for 19 and Neyland registering a strong, but not invincible, 116 for 4.
Neyland showed their fielding prowess when Whitland started their reply, running out David Dunfee, Dave Lee and Iestyn Scourfield cheaply as Paul Murray, Andrew and Gregg Miller were heavily involved, whilst Patrick Hannon took a reflex catch in the gully to shift Dan James after James had belted two straight sixes off Sean Hannon.
But then Paul Davies, one of the best indoor batsmen in the county, found a willing ally in keeper Steve Fraser and this pair took Whitland very much in contention. Davies had scored 42 runs, including three sixes) when he was superbly caught, via the wall, by Sean Hannon, who received a nasty bump on his head as he collided with the wall but bravely clutched the catch. If the old cliché that catches win matches was ever true then this was very much a case in point!
Fraser battled manfully on and after taking 14 runs off Gregg Miller’s first four balls of the final over found himself needing nine runs to win – but was run out from the last ball and Neyland were able to celebrate another undefeated season of indoor cricket before they deservedly picked up the silverware!

Indoor Cricket – Week Six:
Neyland or Whitland to take indoor crown
Venue: The Meads Leisure Centre, Milford Haven
Participating Teams: Haverfordwest A, Neyland, Pembroke Dock, Saundersfoot
Umpires: Alan Hansen and Les Hastings
Scorers: Jenny Seaton & Helen Griffiths
** The games were held under the auspices of the Pembroke County Cricket Club and sponsored by Nick Evans of the Cricket Shop, Narberth. **
Game One
Saundersfoot (44 all out)
lost to Neyland (49 for 0)
Unusually there were four teams competing in week six of the indoor league cricket programme but Neyland won the match that counted most as they easily accounted for Saundersfoot to go into the final week of the programme to face Whitland, who are also unbeaten but have two games left.
Neyland stamped their class on the game from the outset as Paul Murray gave the keeper’s gloves to Scott John and removed key batsman Nick Cope and Grant Hardy in his 2 for 6 spell, assisted by good catches from brothers Gregg and Andrew Miller - then Murray donned the gloves to catch Roger Stanford when Scott John bowled!
Simon Stanford top scored with 20 before he was run out, whilst Richard Cope suffered the same fate as Andrew Miller fielded well. Jeff Marsh was also run out and so Saundersfoot could only muster 44 all out in nine overs.
Neyland started with a bank as Nick Koomen rapped two sixes and three fours before he retired on 27, Gregg Miller struck a six and two fours in his unbeaten 21 – and Neyland were home and dry in only 3.2 overs!

Game Two
Saundersfoot (96 for 3) beat Pembroke Dock (80 all out)
Game Two was more competitive as Nick Cope (retired, 27) Richard Cope (20), Roger Stanford (10 not out) and Jeff Marsh (14 not out) were assisted by 18 extras as Saundersfoot recorded a respectable total of 96 for 3 against Pembroke Dock.
Luke Barford led the Dock reply with a sparkling 33 before he became one of two wickets from veteran bowler Roger Stanford, who showed his all-round skills because he keeps wicket in the outdoor game. Scott Griffiths supported with 16 before he fell to a reaction catch by Simon Stanford to give his father a wicket, whilst Jeff Marsh took the catch of the day as the Seasiders’ keeper dived forward to get rid of Jake Davies as the ball rebounded off a wall! Luke Murray also scored 16 but the Dock were dismissed for 80 runs and Saundersfoot were good value for victory.

Game Three
Pembroke Dock (64 for 4) lost to Haverfordwest A (68 for 1)
Nick Daley batted well for Pembroke Dock as he opened the innings and ended up on 30 not out as only Luke Barford and ‘Mr Extras’ contributed double figures – and Simon Holliday led the bowling with a 2 for 11 haul as Haverfordwest restricted their opponents to 64 for 4 in their allotted ten overs.
Haverfordwest outdoor skipper Huw Scriven stroked a six and two fours before he retired for a speedy 25 and Holliday supported well with three fours and a six in his 22 not out. The only wicket claimed by the Dock came when Danny Potter took over at the crease when Scriven retired and lobbed a second-ball catch to Luke Murray at mid-wicket to give occasional bowler Johnny Hay a rare wicket. But Jonathan Strawbridge rapped a quick 17 not out (including a six and two fours) and The Town strolled home on 68 for 1 in only 4.1 overs.

Welsh indoor champions Neyland bow out against Winsley
Neyland flew the Pembrokeshire Flag with real pride before going down to defeat against an experienced Winsley side who showed why they are also champions of their area of the National Indoor Cricket Section.
The Neyland players made the long trek to Chippenham and must have been reasonably happy with Winsley's 128 for 3 from their allotted 12 overs as Andrew Miller (1 for 20) and Patrick Hannon (1 for 36) were the pick of the bowlers.
Paul Murray (16) and Gregg Miller (10) got Neyland off to a good start but both fell to superb run out throws to knock their progress back.
Andrew Miller top scored with 27 but he was dismissed by an excellent return catch where a boundary looked likely - and Neyland were eventually dismissed for 75.
But PembrokeshireSport.co.uk would like to congratulate Gregg Miller and his boys because they really have been a credit to Pembrokeshire Cricket.

Game One
Cresselly v Saundersfoot
Cresselly were soon under pressure as Sam Franklin claimed 2 for 16 and received solid support from all the other bowlers as wicket-keeper Jeff Marsh excelled with three catches, one a cracker down the leg side to dismiss Matthew Morgan, who was the pick of the Cresselly batsmen, along with Stefan Jenkins.
Nick Cope and Simon Stanford got Saundersfoot off to a great start before both retired at the statutory score of 25 – and although they lost skipper James Caine for a single there was no way back as Sam Franklin batted sensible and Richard Cope showed what a strong hitter he is with 23 not out in a short space of time so that the Seasiders won with 1.3 overs to spare.

Game Two
Haverfordwest B v Saundersfoot
Haverfordwest B suffered the same fate against Saundersfoot as they could only muster a disappointing 59 for 5 as the Seasiders applied good pressure in the field after inviting The Town B to bat first.
John Tooze was run out for 17 and ace run-maker Karl Rhead departed for 19 as Richard Cope took a sharp catch at mid-on off Sam Franklin’s bowling. Nick Cope also took a reflex catch off the wall to match his brother and from there it was downhill all the way so that even the father and son duo of Chris and Micky Phillips couldn’t raise the tempo.
Even so, Saundersfoot didn’t find things easy, either, as they lost the wickets of Nick Cope, run out by Rhead for 14, Simon Stanford (bowled by the evergreen Micky Phillips for 10) and James Caine. But Richard Cope again saw them home with 8 not out and The Town’s cause certainly wasn’t helped by their conceding 20 extras, including the bowling of one 13-ball over!

Game Three
Haverfordwest B v Cresselly
Although the final match looks very one-sided since Cresselly reached the target set by Haverfordwest B without losing a wicket, it was a tense finish as Cresselly needed nine runs from their final two deliveries.
Sam Harts rapped a much-needed six off the penultimate delivery before retiring and it was left to Steffan Jenkins to join his brother Sion at the crease and score the vital three runs needed for victory.
Karl Rhead and Josh Hicks both batted well for Haverfordwest before retiring and there were double figures from James Morris and Chris Phillips to set Cresselly a target for winning of 92 runs.
Matthew Morgan scored 26 before retiring and so did Nick Davies as Harts carried his bat until the finale, but steered Cresselly through, alongside the calm and collected Stefan Jenkins, off the last ball of the afternoon!

Indoor Cricket News:
Neyland make long trek to Chippenham
All Pembrokeshire Cricket supporters will wish Neyland every success this Sunday , February 13th, when they make the long trek to Wiltshire to further their quest to reach the National Finals at Lords.
After polishing off the best of the other teams in Wales in some style, Gregg Miller and his boys now travel to Chippenham Leisure Centre, where they will take on Winsley Cricket Club, starting at 3pm.
If they win that match, they will need to travel again the following Sunday, to take on the winners of the Somerset League, in Taunton, and victory there will see the successful side playing in the final at Lords!
It means a great deal of travel but the Neyland team are ‘up for it’ and we at Pembrokeshiresport.co.uk wish Gregg Miller, his brother Andrew, Paul Murray, Nick Koomen, Sean and Patrick Hannon every success as they fly the Pembrokeshire Cricket flag with real style!

Neyland show just why they are champs
Venue: The Meads Leisure Centre, Milford Haven
Participating Teams: Haverfordwest A, Haverfordwest B, Neyland
Umpires: Les Hastings & Alan Hansen
Scorers: Jenny Seaton & Players
Neyland followed their incisive winning of the Welsh Championships the previous week as they crushed the resistance out of Haverfordwest B and then beat The Town A team in a more tense affair but without losing a wicket.
Their victories nicely set up a deciding fixture with Whitland, also unbeaten, to see who will be the 2011 champions of the Pembrokeshire Indoor Cricket League, held under the auspices of the Pembroke County Cricket Club and sponsored by Nick Evans, of the Cricket Shop, Narberth.
GAME ONE:
Neyland (134 for 1) beat
Haverfordwest B (49 all out)
Neyland showed their batting strength in depth as all six players contributed against Haverfordwest B, as Patrick Hannon, Paul Murray and Nick Koomen all reached 35 and had to retire, whilst Sean Hannon (23 not out) and Andrew Miller (16 not out) took Neyland to a huge total so that Haverfordwest’s only victim came when Josh Hicks ran out Paul Miller for 13.
Neyland then turned the screw in the field as Paul Miller claimed two wickets and big brother Andrew took a superb one-handed catch above his head at mid on to get rid of Mark Cross and provide Sean Hannon with a scalp. James Morris top scored with 24 but then became one of three Town B batsmen run out as Neyland won by a massive 85 runs

Haverfordwest A comfortable accounted for their B team as Simon Holliday (35) and skipper Huw Scriven (40) both retired on 25 and then returned to plunder more runs after wickets fell in the late run chase, where Jonathan Strawbridge also chipped in with 25 not out.
Haverfordwest B had an excellent undefeated 37 from Josh Hicks but only Tim Moss (18) made a useful contribution and the innings ended with Hicks batting alone after Chris Phillips and James Morris had been run out for ducks by accurate fielding from Simon Holliday.

GAME THREE:
Haverfordwest A (89 all out)
lost to Neyland (94 for 0)
Haverfordwest A were clearly intent on building a large total to test Neyland in the final match but Neyland really applied pressure in the field so that five of The Town batsmen were run out in compiling a steady, but not challenging, 89 all out.
Holliday was run out by Patrick Hannon for 20; Huw Scriven departed to a good throw by Sean Hannon, whilst his twin brother Patrick ran out Nigel Delaney, did the same to Danny Potter after he had retired but returned to the crease for a top score of 29, and also took a return catch to shift Strawbridge. Nick Koomen removed Tucker with a good throw and Neyland must have been delighted to have to chase just 90 runs.
Neyland openers Paul Murray (26) and skipper Gregg Miller (27) got Neyland off to a great start before retiring and then Andrew Miller (18) and Sean Hannon (11) remained undefeated at the finish to give their side victory with an over to spare.

Welsh Indoor Cricket Finals:
Neyland are Welsh
indoor cricket champs!
Competing teams: Neyland, Radyr (Cardiff) and Ynysygerwyn.
Venue: The Meads Leisure Centre, Milford Haven.
Umpires: Alan Hansen, Les Hastings & John Williams.
Scorer: Jenny Seaton.
Neyland Cricket Club’s talented six a side team were deservedly crowned Indoor Cricket Champions of Wales as they went one better than their runners-up spot the previous season by effectively crushing both Ynysygerwyn and then Radyr with indoor cricket of the highest quality.
Gregg Miller and his players set the tone for their excellent day in their first match as they bowled great lines and fielded like demons to shoot out a strong Ynysygerwyn batting line-up for a paltry score and then did exactly the same against Radyr to receive the coveted trophy from Trevor Jones, who oversees indoor cricket in Wales.
The teams were congratulated on their achievements by Trefor Evans, the chairman of Pembroke County Cricket Club, who thanks all those involved in making the day a success, especially Wendy Bradshaw, who does such a wonderful job of organising local cricket in Pembrokeshire, alongside Alan Hansen, who umpired the finals in conjunction with Les Hastings and John Williams.
He also thanks the ladies who prepared the tea and PembrokeshireSport.co.uk was impressed with the good sportsmanship and friendly nature of all three teams on the first occasion the finals have ever been held in Pembrokeshire.
Match One – Ynysygerwyn (52 all out) lost to Neyland (53 for 1)
Neyland started well after putting Ynysygerwyn in to bat, with Gregg Miller conceding just a single from his opening over. Ynys openers Alex McCormack and Adam Davies both hit sixes and looked solid but McCormack was run out by a superb Nick Kooman throw as he only had one stump to aim at and did it!
Davies followed as Patrick Hannon pouched a very good catch in the gully off Andrew Miller, who caused havoc as he also shifted Matthew Evans and Neil Maggs to a catch by brother Gregg (off the side wall) and then a return catch where he judged the wall rebound to perfection.
Craig Evans departed as Paul Murray had a direct hit on the stumps and Greg Miller ran out Sanjeev Sidhu to leave Ynysygerwyn out for a paltry 52!
Neyland made sure of success with a steady start by Paul Murray and Andrew Miller before the former batsman fell to a one-handed catch at mid-on by Craig Evans when he had scored 17 (including a four and three threes). But Andrew Miller stroked his way to 20 not out (one four and three threes) as Sean Hannon also chipped in with 10 not out so that Neyland won in 10.2 of their allocated 12 overs.

Match Two – Ynysygerwyn (149 for 2)
beat Radyr (91 for 2)
Ynysygerwyn showed their potential with a huge score of 149 for 2 thanks to big hitting by Alex McCormack, Neil Maggs, Craig Evans and Adam Davies against some sloppy bowling and fielding by Radyr.
Radyr had good knocks from Neil Foster, Rhodri Lewis and James Cordon but were always behind the run rate and Ynysygerwyn were good value for victory by 58 runs.

Match Three – Radyr v Neyland
Radyr elected to bat first but were soon in trouble against Neyland’s tight bowling, catching and sharp ground fielding.
Opening batsmen James Cordon and Andy Bell both fell for nine runs to Sean Hannon, ably assisted by catches from his brother Patrick and keeper Paul Murray, the first from a sharp catch via the back wall and then with Murray diving forward.
Andrew Miller then got in on the act as he had Neil Foster caught one-handed by Sean Hannon and then trapped Rhodri Lewis lbw, as well as a catch at mid on from a fierce drive by Matthew Tyler to give Patrick Hannon a deserved wicket.
Ieuan Llewellyn was run out to complete the Radyr rout for only 58 runs, with Andrew Miller completing a remarkable day with the ball as his two stints earned him collective figures of five wickets for only 16 runs.
Paul Murray and Andrew Miller then made sure of a Neyland win as Murray rapped 25 before retiring and although Sean Hannon was dismissed for only three runs it was Nick Kooman who joined Andrew Miller (16 not out) in steering their side to victory and the Welsh Championship as fitting reward for their outstanding play in this form of the game!

Whitland win double takes them top
Competing Teams: Haverfordwest B, Pembroke Dock & Whitland.
Venue: Milford Haven Leisure Centre.
Umpires: Alan Hansen, assisted at square leg by Glyn Griffiths and John Sheppard (both Pembroke Dock).
Scorers: Helen Griffiths & Jenny Seaton.
There was some excellent fielding, tight bowling and odd glimpses of good batting at Week Four of the Pembroke County Cricket Indoor Cricket League, sponsored by Nick Evans of the Cricket Shop in Narberth.
Whitland showed their all-round strength with two clear cut wins but Haverfordwest B were dismissed for 46 in their opening encounter against Whitland, whilst Pembroke Dock were fired out for 13, easily one of the lowest scores in the history of the competition as Whitland beat them by 98 runs!
Match One:
Haverfordwest B (46 all out)
lost to Pembroke Dock (48 for 1)
Haverfordwest B made a bad start as they lost ace run-maker Karl Rhead, run out for only four runs as Pembroke Dock fielded really well. Nick Daley led the way for The Dock with a good catch, diving forward at mid-on to catch Tim Moss (12) off the bowling of Jamie White.
Mark Cross (13) and James Morris (16) topped The Town batting but a target of 47 for victory wasn’t really a challenge for the Dock as Nick Daley (22 not out) and Jake Davies (17) eased them to 48 for 1 in only 5.1 overs.

Match Two:
Whitland (111 for 4) beat
Pembroke Dock (13 all out)
Whitland suffered an early set-back against Pembroke Dock as Matthew Davies was stumped by Scott Griffiths off a wide by Daniel Heeps but all the other Whitland batsmen made useful contributions. Paul Davies (22) was superbly caught off a wall rebound by Jamie White, as was Dan James (17) to give wickets to Chris Boyett and Jake Davies respectively. David Dunfee chipped in with 12 runs but Dai Lee was the top scorer with 39 not out, joined by Steve Fraser (9 not out) in the late chase for runs.
The Dock were soon in deep trouble when they set off in response, however, as Nick Daley and Chris Boyett were stumped by Steve Fraser off wides bowled by Paul Davies and Dan James, Scott Griffiths and Jake Davies were both run out, whilst Dai Lee bowled Daniel Heaps and Jamie White for ducks so that the Dock were left reeling on THIRTEEN all out!

Tim Moss (34 not out) and Karl Rhead (retired on 27) were top scorers for the Dock after Josh Hicks and James Morris departed from successive deliveries by Dan James, both from inside edges on to the stumps. Mark Cross supported with 14 but Dai Lee again grabbed the last two wickets for Whitland.
Matthew Davies again failed to exert his usual influence as he was caught for ten runs but Paul Davies and David Dunfee both retired with innings of 27 and 26 respectively to put Whitland in control. Dai Lee was run out for 12 runs bur Dan James and Steve Fraser saw them home, James finishing the game in style with an excellent straight six.

There was entertainment aplenty at The Meads Leisure Centre during week two of the ‘Cricket Shop’ Indoor Cricket League as all six innings reached three figures through some big hitting and superbly-judged quick singles neatly interspersed with fine fielding that brought several run outs and some excellent catches.
Whitland confirmed their pedigree as one of the top two sides in the tournament as they fended off strong challenges by both Saundersfoot and Haverfordwest A, who beat the Seasiders in the other match.

Participating Teams: Cresselly, Neyland and Pembroke Dock.
Venue: The Meads Leisure Centre, Milford Haven.
Umpires: Alan Hansen & Les Hastings.
Scorers: Jenny Seaton, Helen Griffiths & Kirsty Hughes .
Indoor cricket got under way in Pembrokeshire for 2011 as defending champions Neyland got off to a flying start with victories over Pembroke Dock and Cresselly, who managed to account for the Dock in the third match of the afternoon.
Match One:
Pembroke Dock (44 all out)
lost to Neyland (45 for 3)
The Dock were clearly ring rusty and found it hard going against Neyland’s sharp and aggressive fielding in support of some straight bowling so that only Nick Daley managed double figures as Sean Hannon claimed two wickets and there was one apiece for Andrew Miller and Nick Kooman, who effected an early run out of Scott Griffiths as a bonus.
It was never going to be enough to test Neyland’s powerful batting line-up and although Gareth Virgo was run out by Jake Davies for 9 runs and Kooman departed for 15, Paul Murray was still 12 not out at the end to seal a first win for Neyland.

Brothers Sean and Patrick Hannon then helped Neyland to a decent total as they scored 21 not out and 8 (run out) respectively, whilst Cresselly conceded a vital 25 runs through ‘Mr Extras’!
Matthew Morgan (19) started well for Cresselly and Nick Davies chipped in with 14 but he was one of three players run out as the pressure built. Sion Jenkins was out for a duck but brother Stefan contributed 13 not out as Neyland won with something to spare, despite conceding 17 extras themselves!
