Pembrokeshire Primary Schools Football- Tom Yeoman Shield:
A rare mixed bag of results
Pembrokeshire Primary Schools Football Squad continued their Welsh Schools’ campaign with four matches against Afan Nedd at Camrose AFC on Sunday.
Pembrokeshire A 2 - Afan Nedd A 0
The Pembs boys settled down quickly and competed well against a strong Afan Nedd team. Both sides counter-attacked quickly and tested their respective defences. Jack Ackerman, Ollie Wheeler and Zac Rowell defended strongly and Steven Varney was superb in goal. Jonathan Walters linked well with Ben Fawcett and Cameron Thomas and Ben Fairbain stretched the Afan Nedd defence. Pembs went 1-0 up just before half time through a good goal by Thomas. Tate Lawrence and Harry Rossiter came on in the second, settling down well into the side and helping Thomas score Pembs’ second.
Pembrokeshire A 0 - Afan Nedd B 0
This was a very tight game with both sides desperate to score. The Afan Nedd goalkeeper played well and the Pembs boys were getting very frustrated. This resulted in uncharacteristic kick and rush football which spoilt the game. Pembs almost snatched the game in the dying minutes when Fairbain headed the ball onto the crossbar. A draw was a fair result, but it left the Pembs boys feeling they should have done better.
Pembrokeshire B 4 - Afan Nedd B 0
The Pembs side started off brightly and Alaric Jones scored twice in quick succession. Jack Wilson added Pembs’ third and the whole squad were passing the ball well. Daffydd Eynon made some good saves in goal and Lewys Tee and Jack Scriven defended well. John Mansbridge, Jake Houston and Rhys Morgan held the midfield and Torin Nicolson and Cieran Rees had good debuts. Jake Merry added Pembs fourth and put the game out of reach.
Pembrokeshire B 0 - Afan Nedd A 5
Once Afan Nedd scored their first goal the Pembs boys’ heads went down. Poor marking allowed the opposition to get behind the defence time and time again leaving the keeper with no chance against several one on ones. This was a poor team performance and the boys are going to have to up their game in the next round.
