Bruce makes a bright start
Bruce Evans might have lived in France for a number of years but he clearly showed that keeping a close eye on PembrokeshireSport.co.uk rugby results has certainly paid dividends because the former teacher and rugby player edged out Bill Carne by a single point in the first week of their challenge.
Bruce was modesty itself as he told us it was beginner’s luck but there is no doubt that Mr Carne will need to be seriously on his mettle if he is to win over the remaining three weeks!
Well done Bruce – and good luck for Saturday!
Division One (West):
Ammanford v Whitland
BC: Matches again Ammanford are never easy on their home patch so I’ll take a chance and plump for them to beat the Borderers!
BE: Another road trip for the Borderers but I expect them to come home with the points this time.
Narberth v Waunarlwydd
BC: I watched the Otters last week and they weren’t at their best – but I still think they will be too strong for Waunarlwydd
BE: Narberth have climbed the table with two good wins and need to make it three out of three with another home fixture. A home win for me.
Division Two (West):
Crymych v Felinfoel
BE: I hope Crymych can make it three wins in a row, especially with home advantage, but on this occasion I think Felinfoel might just edge it!
BE: I’ve long been an admirer of Crymych’s progress and I see this as a must win match, against a team one above them, if they’re to stay in Division Two. I’ll go for home win.
Division Three (West):
Tenby v Dunvant
BC: Tenby are playing better of late but I have to go for second-placed Dunvant here!
BE: A good win for Tenby last week but against one of the front runners in the league even home advantage might not be enough. Dunvant to win.
Haverfordwest v Tumble
BC: Tumble will push the Blues hard but I will go for Haverfordwest with home advantage.
BE: I’m hoping that last week’s result will have given the Blues a wake up call. They now have two home fixtures coming up to prove their quality and I’m backing them for a home win, despite the fact that Tumble are also riding high. A Blues’ win.
Cardigan v Pontyberem
BC: Cardigan have been playing well and almost won at Tumble last Saturday – so they should have few problems here.
BE: Judging by recent form, I think Cardigan will win here.
Division Four (West):
Neyland v Burry Port
BC: I would love to see the All Blacks claim their second win of the season but I think Burry Port could snatch the verdict here.
BE: I hope this is the match where the All Blacks break out of their losing streak. Burry Port won’t be easy opposition but I’m going for a home win.
Llanybydder v Milford Haven
BC: Milford are a good side at full strength and on their day – but Llanybydder are tough at home so I’ll go for a home victory!
BE: The Mariners had a slow start last week which we’ll put down to ring rustiness. I may be going with my heart rather than my head here but I’m predicting a Milford away win. But they’ll have to be switched-on in defence.
Division Five (West):
Pembroke Dock Quins v Swansea Uplands
BC: The Quins have been playing really well but the Uplands have a very good set of backs – and I think that the visitors might just grab victory in a close tussle!
BE: Uplands are on a roll this year after many tough seasons, but Quins’ recent form is also very good. I believe this will be a home win.
Cefneithin v Llangwm
BC: Llangwm have been struggling to field a settled side but are gradually welcoming players back – but this should be a Cefneithin win.
BE: They could do with some old heads travelling for this tough assignment. I don’t see that happening so I have to go for a Cefneithin win.
St Davids v Pembroke
BC: The Scarlets are traditionally strong up front and should nullify the saints’ eight – and their backs should ensure a Pembroke win.
BE: Pembroke will have been disappointed with last week’s result, and so was I! But I expect them to get back on track here. I don’t know what kind of squad St Davids took away last week but they also had a disappointing result. Another away win here.
Fishguard v Penygroes
BC: Fishguard might find Penygroes a challenge but should have far too much overall fire-power for the visitors!
BE: After a narrow Cup defeat and having last week’s match called off, Fishguard will be raring to go and I expect a comfortable home win for the Seagulls.
