Bruce Evans takes on Bill CarneRugby Forecasts

Fixtures for 12th November 2011
(..to results page for these fixtures..)

Once again I got Narberth’s result wrong last Saturday as they continue their roller-coaster ride through the season with a cracking win over high-flying UWIC in Cardiff. Well done Steve Martin & Co but you are ruining my tipping figures!

I still had six out of eight right, however, as I also had St Davids to win at Llangadog but the Saints were smashed!

Now this week I will have to be on my mettle because Bruce Evans is also going to tip all the results from the warmth of his home in France, using his knowledge of rugby gained as a very good player and an equally astute coach and teacher – so welcome aboard Bruce – and may the best man win!

PHOTO: Bruce Evans goes head-to-head with resident tipster Bill Carne. Who will come out on top?

Division One (West):

Llangennech v Whitland

BC: It’s a second versus top clash and I think the Borderers might just snatch the verdict, despite Llangennech having home advantage!

BE: I’m going for Llangennech to beat the league leaders at home.

Narberth v Llanharan

BC: I’m almost reluctant to tip Narberth but I think the Otters will be too strong for a side who are in seventh place with four wins and a draw from ten starts,

BE: I’m going for Doddsy’s Narberth team with home advantage, especially after last weekend’s excellent win at his old team, UWIC.

Division Two (West):

Maesteg v Crymych

BC: Maesteg finally returned to action last weekend after failing to raise a team for a few weeks, and this is a fascinating clash because both sides are seeking a first win – and I’ll go for the Preseli Men!

BE: Crymych should build on their cup win and get an away win to kick start their league campaign.

Division Three (West):

Lampeter v Haverfordwest

BC: The pressure is on Haverfordwest as every side now seeks to take away their 100% record – but I hope the Blues will be too sharp for a useful home side.

BE: A week ago I’d have gone for the Blues, but Lampeter will have taken confidence from their performance against Crymych, and it’s a tough place to win. So Lampeter for me but I hope the Blues prove me wrong.

Tenby United v Pontyberem

BC: This is a good chance for Tenby to pick up a second win against a team two places above them in eighth place!

BE: Ponty are higher in the table but have also lost six matches, so I’ll go for Tenby to gain an important win with home advantage.

Tumble v Cardigan

BC: Cardigan have been playing well but Tumble are traditionally strong at home and are looking good in fourth place – so it’s a home win for me!

BE: Tumble are having a good season and I think a home win is most likely here.

Division Four (West):

Milford Haven v Betws

BC: On paper the easiest match of the day for the Mariners, who are third in the table and entertain a Betws side who are bottom, with just one win from eight starts!

BE: Milford need to get back on track after being let down by two opponents in three weeks. This should be a home win with bonus points for Wonners and co. but Mackie’s team needs to concede fewer points if they’re to go up this season.

Neyland v Llanelli Wanderers

BC: A real battle this for the All Blacks since Llanelli Wanderers arrive at the Athletic Ground with a 100% record which, sadly, I think they will still have after Saturday!

BE: I’d like to think the All Blacks could cause an upset because they haven’t been losing their matches by wide margins, but I have to go with the form team in Llanelli Wanderers.

Division Five (West):

Bynea v Pembroke Dock Harlequins

BC: The Quins have now won four matches on the trot and should have far too much forward fire-power for a Bynea side in 11th place and having lost all seven of their matches.

BE: Some important points away are on offer for the Quins, and they should win, buoyed by their  cup win over Harford.

Llangwm v Swansea Uplands

BC: Llangwm have struggled of late but are stronger at home – but Swansea Uplands have six wins in eight outings and so I go for an Uplands win.

BE: The Uplands are not the push over they were and I have to go with the promotion chasers here, although I’d love some of my ex-students to prove me wrong!

Pembroke v Nantgaredig

BC: One of the toughest games to predict because Pembroke are strong at Crickmarren - whilst Nantgaredig are also promotion hopefuls. I’ll take a chance on Nantgaredig!

BE: Both teams have the same win/loss record so I hope Pembroke’s home advantage will be enough for Ossie’s boys.

Pontyates v St Davids

BC: A basement battle where Pontyates have yet to win a match – so I’ll pick the Saints to gain their second success of the season!

BE: The Saints to win on the basis that they travel with a full squad, including Fraser Watson!

St Clears v Fishguard & Goodwick

BC: A real clash of the divisional titans! They met in the cup last weekend and the Saints won by a single point – but I think the Seagulls will be really up for this one – and beat the Saints!

BE: One of the toughest to call, as the Cup result showed, but if Podge (Rob Phillips, the ex Narberth coaching guru) gets the St Clears’ team sheet right, then it should be a home win.
