County start Tom Yeoman campaign in style
Pembrokeshire started off the 2011-12 Tom Yeoman campaign against Aberystwyth last Sunday at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium, Haverfordwest, picking up three wins and a draw in the process..
The squad consisted of several of last season’s players as well as a new crop of youngsters who came through the trials and have been training hard over the last few weeks.
Pembrokeshire A 3 - Aberystwyth A 1
Pembs settled down well and the mixture of experienced and new players worked well. Team captain Cameron Thomas scored twice for Pembs after some good passing from Jonathan Walters and Ben Fawcett and Ben Fairbain chased for every ball up front. The defence of Jack Ackerman, Zac Rowell and Harry Rossiter stood up well to the Aberystwyth attacks and Stephen Varney looked sharp in goal. Jake Merry and Kian Lee came on at half time and both made good debuts. Aber managed to pull a goal back, but Rowell scored Pembs third to seal the first three points of the season.
Pembrokeshire A 4 - Aberystwyth B 0
This match started off evenly with both sides attacking well. The Pembs defence and midfield held firm allowing Ben Fairbain to score the opening goal. This was quickly followed by a hat-trick from Cameron Thomas which gave the side another well deserved victory.
Pembrokeshire B 2 - Aberystwyth B 1
This was a very exciting match that was well contested. Aber went ahead early on despite numerous Pembs attacks by Jack Wilson, Jack Scriven and Ollie Gamble. Elliott Wherrett, Joshua Watts and John Mansbridge worked hard in defence under great pressure from the Aber forwards. Lewys Tee, Jake Houston and Rhys Morgan distributed the ball well and Travis Johnston was brave in the Pembs goal. In the last frantic few minutes of the match Pembs scored twice through Mansbridge and Wilson to snatch the points away from the bewildered Aber team.
Pembrokeshire B 2 - Aberystwyth A 2
Aber scored first and again Pembs left it late to get the equaliser from Wilson before Houston put Pembs ahead. But the Aber side worked hard to pull the game back. There was end to end play and Johnston was called to make some very good point blank saves. The game ended in a draw which was a fair result from such an entertaining game.
