Bluebirds and Aber finish all square
Haverfordwest County 1 - Aberystwyth Town 1
Haverfordwest County’s preparations are going well as they deservedly drew with Welsh Premier Aberystwth Town at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Manager Mickey Ellis and assistant Wayne Jones are both delighted with the new group of players, who are all working so hard and have got some rather pleasing results playing against good quality opposition
Injury scare
There was a big scare early on when striker Nicky Woodrow came off as a precaution after picking up a thigh strain and Anton Owens replaced him.
The Bluebirds took the lead on the half hour mark with debutant keeper Craig Morris’ quick throw allowing space for left back Dave Evans to manoeuvre, his long ball teed-up substitute Owens, who nipped in and slipped the ball underneath the keeper from the tightest of angles.
At that stage the home side were in control and they had the lion’s share of possession as Aber were constantly put on the back foot.
Caught napping
However, four minutes before the break and the Bluebirds defence were caught napping when Sean Evans buried an equaliser from close range.
Both sides made plenty of changes in the second half, which disrupted the fluency of the play. The Bluebirds brought on Nathan Evans, Kristian Griffiths and Jay Brockway who all acquitted themselves well.
This coming Thursday, Haverfordwest County entertain Newcastle Emlyn in an evening game at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium.
Haverfordwest County: Craig Morris; David Evans; Gareth Elliott; Phil Cattlin; Simon Gilderdale; Richard Lewis; Chris O’Sullivan; Gary Taylor; Richard Ryan; Nicky Woodrow; Ricky Watts. Substitutes: Anton Owens; Nathan Evans; Kristian Griffiths; Jay Brockway.
