The victorious Greenhill team with the Cup.Greenhill School nets football win

Girls from across Pembrokeshire took to the pitch at the weekend for an annual football tournament and the event was won by the team from Greenhill School, which beat Ysgol y Preseli 1-0 in the final.

Over 70 pupils from six of the County’s secondary schools competed in glorious sunshine in the third 5x60 Inter School Football competition in Tenby.
Organised by Sport Pembrokeshire - the sports development arm of Pembrokeshire County Council - the 5x60 project aims to encourage secondary school pupils to take part in extra curricular activities, while getting fit at the same time.

Cllr Rob is delighted

Councillor Rob Lewis, Cabinet Member for Sport and Leisure, said
5x60 girls’ football clubs were now running in all of the County’s secondary schools.
“The introduction of activities such as girl’s football and street dance symbolise the changes that we are trying to make in secondary school sport. Girls football is an extremely popular 5x60 activity as shown by the turn out at Sunday’s competition.”

Healthy exercise

Russell Jones, 5 x 60 Manager for Sport Pembrokeshire, said
football engaged large number of girls in healthy and regular exercise.
“The standard at the competition was very high and contestants and spectators thoroughly enjoyed themselves”.
The Girls football programme is sponsored by Chevron’s ‘Energy for Learning’ programme.
