‘Doc’, ‘Rushy’, ‘Windy’ and Scott stand tall at the topWhitland’s cricket statisticians Paul and Janice Webb have again produced some interesting figures at the half way stage of Division One in the Nicholas Insurance County Cricket League; 2011 season. It is an interesting fact that statistics can be used in different ways and so in the batting we have produced our chart to show (a) the most runs and (b) the best average – and in the bowling we have gone for (a) most wickets and (b) most runs! Ace batsmen In the batting there are most of the usual faces with Haverfordwest opener Simon ‘Doc’ Holliday having an amazing average of 119.33 since he has had two ‘not outs’ in his five innings, with Carew’s ace run-getter Nick Scourfield (80.40) and Cresselly No 3 Simon Cole (75.20) behind him. Going on most runs scored however we have Scourfield, who is known to his pals as ‘Rushy’, topping the chart with 402 runs ahead of Cole (376) and Holliday (358), both of whom have played fewer innings. Best bowlers On the bowling front, Neyland’s redoubtable skipper Andrew ‘Windy’ Miller leads the way with most wickets, having claimed 22 victims ahead of Saundersfoot’s Simon Wood (18) and then team-mate Nick Cope and Carew’s Scott Helmich, both of whom have 17 scalps apiece. Taken by average, it is Helmich who is in front since his wickets have cost an average of 6.60, followed by Carew team mate Matthew Phillips (11.50 and 14th in the number of wickets picked up!), followed by Simon Wood (12.33) Star all-rounders Finding all-rounders in this season’s half way stage details is much harder to come across, with only two players appearing in the batting and bowling lists. Andrew Palmer (St Ishmaels) is 12th in the batting and fifth in the bowling, whilst Saundersfoot’s Nick Cope sits in 18th (batting) and third (bowling). |
