Dan Newton impressive display at outside halfPembrokeshire trio help Scarlets secure must win over Edinburgh

Three Pembrokeshire rugby stars played brilliantly for the Scarlets in their 11-3 Magners League victory over Edinburgh at Parc Y Scarlets on Thursday night.
Dan Newton, of Whitland, had a sound game playing at outside half. The talented youngster was in the thick of the action on a wet evening, and his intelligent distribution and kicking out of hand stood out playing alongside man of the match scrum half partner Gareth Davies. Newton kicked kicked a penalty in each half in the Scarlets’ must win game over the Scots, sealing an important result for Nigel Davies’ team that moved them to second in the table.
Newton was joined in the back line by fellow Whitland team mate Scott Williams, and he formed an impressive solid centre partnership with New Zealander Regan King. Williams made a brilliant break midway through the first half that led to Gareth Davies having a try disallowed by the TMO, much to the huge disappointment of the vocal Scarlets’ fans.
Welsh international winger George North scored a cracking try that was created by some impressive handling and support play before the teenage winger stepped inside his marker and used his power to dive over the whitewash for an unconverted score.
David Blair landed a penalty in the second half that kept the visitors in contention, but Simon Gardiner, of Haverfordwest, replaced Welsh international prop Rhys Thomas, and he acquitted himself well in the latter stages as the Scarlets held out for a well deserved win.
