Local sportsmen face marathon tester

for Cancer Research & Barnardo’s

Jonathan Kiff  and Richard Brill  are running the Virgin London Marathon on the 17th April 2011 to raise funds for two very worthy causes.

The two local sports lovers have been running together for the past few months, Richard training four times a week and Kiff three. There is a great rivalry between the two, even though they are best of friends, so when it comes down to the starting gun, its every man for himself.

Already on the way

The duo have already raised over £1000 with an event in the Huntsman at Rosemarket which was organised by Alan John and Neil Adams, who kindly did an auction to help raise money for Cancer Research (Jonathan) and Barnardo’s (Richard)

Why might you ask are they doing such a big event, Jon has been through cancer, just five years ago, and was one of the lucky ones to pull through, but many don't, so this is why Jon will be running to help cancer research develop new ways of preventing cancer from taking peoples lives, whilst Richard is running for Barnardo’s, a charity that tries to stop sexual abuse, domestic violence, child poverty and homelessness.

Sporting backgrounds

Jonathan has lived and played in Llangwm (Port Lion) for over 25 years, captaining the Wasps 1st IV for two years and also playing some cricket whilst Richard has lived in Pembrokeshire for 16 years, playing football for Johnston. They have both run a half marathon in Dale in the summer of 2009, both finishing in respectable times. In this race, Jon managed to raise nearly £4,000 for the ‘Adam’s Bucket Full of Hope’ Charity.

The target that both of them are aiming to achieve is £2,000 each, and they are planning to hold different events before the big race, such as bag packing in Tesco, a quiz night, sponsored bike ride and a race night.

It would mean a great deal to both of them, if everyone could dig deep in to their pockets and help them out for such a brilliant cause.
