Blues under 18 girls secure great win
Nantyfyllon Under 18 Girls 15 - Haverfordwest Under 18 Girls 25
Haverfordwest RFC Under 18 Girls’ team recently travelled to play Nantyffyllon, a team near Maesteg and came away with an excellent win as reward for their effort and total commitment.
Despite the wet and windy weather conditions the girls were still keen to play and within three minutes the girls in blue succeeded in scoring their first try. Jessica Richards stole the ball from the opposition and ran 40m down the pitch to off-load to Ndey Kabia, who stepped two defenders to score Haverfordwest’s first try of the match.
Good start maintained
Shortly afterwards another try was scored by Zoe Daye through an interception. Jessica Richards scored the next good try, which started from a maul, where Bryony Dixon brought the ball in, secured by Samantha Palen and Lauren Hawkins. The ball then passed through the hands of Emma Westerby, Christy Bowling, Sophie Powell and Sinead Parkinson, to Jessica who fought two defenders to ground the ball, scoring in the corner. This brought the score to 15-0 and with the wind behind the girls a kick for space by Christy Bowling saw Haverfordwest sprint down the pitch to score again; second one of the match for Zoe Daye.
Stayed strong in the second half
Haverfordwest were facing a strong wind in the second half and Nantyffyllon started coming back - they scored three tries, bringing the score to 20-15 but the Haverfordwest girls didn’t give up. They continued to put in some hard hits and strong runs. Both Rhian Perry and Christy Bowling had two excellent breaks, just to be stopped before the line. Their efforts eventually paid off as the girls ended the game on a high, scoring the final try. This was scored by Jess Jones, as she ran 40m, side stepping numerous opposition, and powering her way through to score an excellent try, leaving the final score 25-15 to the Haverfordwest girls.
