Swimmers go the distance
Young swimmers from across the County made a splash at the recent Pembrokeshire Long Distance Championships so that eight championship records were broken at the annual event held at Tenby Leisure Centre.
The annual championships cover 1,500 and 800 metre freestyle races for swimmers aged eight and over.
Top performances
Jemma Hurds from Tenby Dolphins took the record in the 1500m freestyle in the girls’ 9-10yr category while Thomas Randall from Pembroke set a new record in the boys’ 8yrs 800m freestyle
Nyle Lewis from Pembroke set a new record in the boys 11yrs 800m freestyle and Daniel Thomas, also from Pembroke, set a new record in the boys’ 13-14 yrs 800m freestyle
Hazel Fox (from Tenby) took the record in the girls’ 10yrs 800m freestyle, Hannah Saunders set a new record in the girls’ 12yrs 800m freestyle while Bethan Davie from Tenby did the same in the girls’ 15yrs+ 800m & 1500m freestyle.
Organiser Ann was delighted
Event organiser Ann Adams said it had been another successful event.
“Eight records were broken and many swimmers took advantage of the opportunity to get a time at their chosen distance,” she said. “I’m delighted at their achievements and I’d like to thank all those who helped run the event.”
