Beat the Expert - Bernie Armstrong - Week 1

Football fixtures for 18th December 2010

Bernie Armstrong

Can ‘Bernie the Bolt’

avoid another hammering?

As Chris Tansey’s challenge drifts off into the ether The Expert resumes his acquaintance with old friend Bernard ‘The Bolt’ Armstrong and is clearly intent on inflicting another hammering on Mr Armstrong, as he did last season.

First though, we would like to praise Chris Tansey for the way that he stuck to his guns and although he went down to a heavy defeat was able to maintain his sense of humour, despite the wounding verbal barbs fired by The Expert. Thanks Chris – and we will make sure you get a chance to redeem yourself in the future.

Now back to the Goodwick United manager – and The Expert is already scathing of his opponent.

“Fancy asking me to take on someone who appears in our Christmas Quiz in a skirt but is eager to have a photograph of himself so that he can put it in his bedroom and preen whenever he sees it!

“Like Mr T he is from Hakin and will go the same way in this competition. My mole at Armstrong Villas tells me that he has even been phoning managers like Modesto Galdo to check what their team strength is. Now how low is that?!

“But it won’t make any difference because there is no substitute for skill, good judgement and class, which I’ve got in buckets and he still hasn’t got!”

“Bring it on Mr Bolt – I am ready for the challenge!”

Results (To be published here on Saturday - all matches postponed)

Division One:

Clarbeston Road v Narberth

Haverfordwest County v Herbrandston

Johnston v Hundleton

Kilgetty v Goodwick

Merlins Bridge v Neyland

Tenby v Hakin United

West Wales Cup:

Giant’s Grave v Solva

Caewern v Pennar Robins

Bernie Armstrong’s Predictions:

Division One:

Clarbeston Road 3 - Narberth 2
I’m going for a shock result to get me started and although Narberth start as favourites I think Clarbie will outscore them at home.

Haverfordwest County 1 - Herbrandston 2
This is another game where I think there could be a bit of a surprise. Herbie now have a strong squad again and I think they will just pinch it!

Johnston 1 - Hundleton 2
We should have another close-fought match here and I think Mark Powell’s boys might just grab an away win.

Kilgetty 1 - Goodwick United 3
I have to go for us to win at Kilgetty. We beat them 5-0 a couple of weeks ago but this should be closer because they are at home with a stronger squad.

Merlins Bridge 2 - Neyland 1
Merlins Bridge should just about win this match but it could be closer than some folk think because Neyland are an under-estimated side!

Tenby 1 - Hakin United 3
This is the match of the day between two quality sides – but I have to for Hakin because they are proven goal-grabbers.

West Wales Cup:

Giant’s Grave 3 - Solva 0
Giant’s Grave seems like a strong side in the Neath League and although Solva will battle all the way they might find this a trip too far for them.

Caewern 3 - Pennar Robins 1
It’s the same for Pennar because Caewern play well in the Neath League and are at home, which always helps in this competition.

The Expert’s Scorecasts:

Division One:

Clarbeston Road 1 - Narberth 3

Haverfordwest County 3 - Herbrandston 1

Johnston 2 - Hundleton 0

Kilgetty 0 - Goodwick 4

Merlins Bridge 3 - Neyland 1

Tenby 3 - Hakin United 2

West Wales Cup:

Giant’s Grave 3 - Solva 0

Caewern 2 - Pennar Robins 0
