Pembrokeshire Regional Squad Under 13’s 2010:
Mixed bag of results for county under 13s
The season for the County under 13’s was a mixed bag, since 12 matches were played, of which five were won, five lost, one drawn and one abandoned after 31 overs because of rain. Highlights of the season were a tremendous innings of 88 by the Region’s captain Toby Hayman (Burton) and excellent bowling and batting by Steffan James of Whitland who finished the season with 14 wickets at an average of 16.07 and a batting average of 41.86 from 10 innings.
Creditable fourth place At the recent Cricket Board of Wales Festival in Wrexham, the Region finished a creditable fourth in Wales. On the final day, Pembrokeshire restricted Mid Glamorgan to 167 for 5 wickets in the allotted 40 overs, with Steffan James 1 for 32 in his 8 overs, Jack Davies (Burton) 1 for 19 in 8 overs, Toby Hayman 2 for 26 off 7 overs and Lewis Boswell 1 for 17 off 4 overs. In reply, things were not looking good at 39 for 3, but Steffan James once again showed great concentration and together with Harry Thomas (Cresselly) put on 72 for the fourth wicket. However, when Harry was out for 36, wickets started to tumble regularly and, with 3 overs still remaining, Pembrokeshire were bowled out for 148, and a disappointing end to a tour that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
Grateful thanks Thanks go to the parents and supporters who travelled to North Wales and all over the country, especially thanks to Jenny Davies-Scourfield (manager) and Ann-Marie Jenkins (scorer) for all their help on tour and throughout the season. Thanks also to coaches Steven Thomas and Nick Davies for their help and Richard Hayman for driving the minibus and assisting on tour. 7th September 2010
Kilgetty Under 11s 267 beat Narberth 207
Venue: The Racecourse, Haverfordwest
The Pembroke County Cricket Club U11 cricket league final between Kilgetty and Narberth, saw Kilgetty achieve an historic hat-trick of titles in a game of high quality that was enjoyed by a large crowd of supporters. Jac Waters of Kilgetty captained the side for the second year in a row and put Narberth into bat. They got off to a good start, taking early singles which got the run rate going quickly until early wickets, and a good run out put Kilgetty on top of the game with accurate pace bowling by Tom Murphy, Ben Palin and Toby Poole each taking a wicket apiece, whilst Jac Waters also took wickets in his spell. Liam Cullen kept wicket and proved why he is the county wicket keeper with a sharp stumping off the bowling of Palin. Kilgetty’s other bowlers were Max Brindley, James Harris, Harry Phillips, Jack Tucker and Jack Broadhurst and they conceded very few extras. Excellent fielding from Ryan Conbeer and Oliver Lewis kept the fielding tight and brought the Narberth innings to a conclusion on 207 runs in the allotted 20 overs.
Opening the batting for the Kilgetty side was Toby Poole and Max Brindley, Poole got the innings off to a good start with the third ball of the innings going to the boundary with a cover drive as this pair looked comfortable against the opening attack. Poole finished up on 12 runs in the pair’s allotted time. Ben Palin and Harry Phillips played the bowling with ease, backed up by two lovely cover drives by Palin, and lovely straight batting by the left handed Phillips . Tom Murphy and Jac Broadhurst kept the middle order going with Murphy scoring a quick 12 runs in his pair. Jac Waters and Jack Tucker played with authority and Tucker hit a superb on-drive for four to finish off their pair. Cullen batted with authority for his 12 supported by the ever improving James Harries, who looked solid in his defence. Oliver Lewis and Ryan Conbeer ended the innings with Kilgetty winning comfortably by 60 runs. For the final, only 12 boys could play, but during the season Jake Simmons, Ieuan Jones, Carl Gwyther and Oliver North played in the league games and also contributed to the success.
Kilgetty’s future This young team has had great success over the last three years and made Pembrokeshire cricket history by being the only team to win the title three years in a row. This shows that the junior cricket team looks strong for years to come in Kilgetty.
Squad thank you Kilgetty U11 team would like to thank Louise Waters, Micky Marsh and Ian Poole for their coaching and support over the seasons, and also Mr Teddy George, a lifelong stalwart and former player of Kilgetty, who scored professionally all season. In addition they would thank Pembrokeshire Mortgage Centre for their sponsorship, and all their parents for taking them to all the games. Cricket loses two of its gentlemen
Ted Sexton – Haverfordwest CC Haverfordwest Cricket Club lost one of its senior members this week with the passing of Ted Sexton, who was known throughout the county for his batting and wicket-keeping skills. Ted came to the county with the Air Force and was soon heavily involved, alongside his late wife Rita, in the social side of the Haverfordwest club, as well as being highly respected as a player. His sons Mark and Alan also became top players at The Town and Ted was rightly regarded as a gentleman, both on and off the field, and deepest sympathy is extended to Mark and Alan, plus their families, at their sad loss.
Tony Ansell – Carew CC Members of Carew Cricket Club were saddened this week to lose Tony Ansell, who was born and bred in the village and had done so much work on the ground at Carew. He was a regular supporter of the cricket team with his wife Betty, John and Jill Donnachie and the rest of the supporters in the far corner of the ground. His son Barry was a very good wicket-keeper batsman at the club and our heartfelt condolences go to Betty, Barry, Trudy, Tracy and their families at this sad time.

Dunfee seals Whitland win over Hook
Hook Youth (79 for 7) lost to Whitland Youth (160 for 5)
Umpires: Arthur Brady & Denis Chiffi Scorers: Sam Rossiter & Jenny Scourfield-Davies (Electronically assisted by Ann-Marie Jenkins) Venue: Cresselly Cricket Club
Put in to bat first, Hook faced Steffan James firing on all cylinders as he shifted key batsmen Tom Blaxland and Jack Britton for eight runs apiece, the former well caught by Seb Fraser. Harry Morris top-scored with 15 but he too fell to James and after that it was ‘Mr Extras’, with 25, who ensured that Hook made their way to 79 for 7 in their 20 overs as Daniel James (2 for 18) and David Dunfee (1 for 26) were the other successful Whitland bowlers. Dunfee delivers with superb stroke-play Hook must have been encouraged when Blaxland shifted Josh Watson cheaply and Britton had Owain Evans caught by Matthew John – but then they were hit by a whirlwind in Dunfee, who stroked 13 fours and four huge sixes en route to 96. A century was no more than Dunfee deserved until he top-edged a delivery from Blaxland which the bowler pouched and only skipper Nico Setaro (20) managed double figures alongside him. Whitland had raced to 160 for 5 in 18 overs but then heavy rain fell and play was unable to restart so Whitland were adjudged worthy winners because it had been agreed pre-match that if weather intervened then first innings totals would count.

County U11’s enjoy Minor Counties Cricket Festival
Pembrokeshire U11 talented cricket team finished off their season at The Minor Counties Festival at The Royal Hospital School in Suffolk. Although they did not win any of their three games the quality and standard was of a very high level with the best young cricketers of the age group in the country attending this prestigious event. The festival was organised by the former Essex all rounder and former Zimbabwe coach Don Topley and the results were as follows
North Essex (128 for 5) beat Pembrokeshire (73 all out)
Lincolnshire (159 for 7) drew with Pembrokeshire (72 for 6) - rain stop play
Norfolk (134 for 8) beat Pembrokeshire (131 all out)
Day One Pembrokeshire won the toss and put North Essex into bat. Tom Murphy bowled his best spell of the season with pace and accuracy and was very unlucky not to take a wicket but finished with figures of 5 overs 3 maidens 0 for 6. The spinners played a big part in this game as Phil Llewellyn and Kurtis Marsh bowled well but with no wickets, but Toby Poole continued his excellent leg spin with figures of 2 for 13 as the Pembrokeshire team fielded superbly, with two excellent catches by the improved Ben Palin. But Pembrokeshire lost wickets too often in their innings and did not build any long partnerships to get the run chase going. Toby Poole was looking settled for his 12 but was caught at mid off, driving. The only other batsmen to stay long was Kurtis Marsh (13) and Liam Cullen, who put his authority to the game for 18 until he was caught looking for quick runs.
Day Two On the second day the boys were up against a very strong Lincolnshire side who won the toss and batted first to a good total in 45 overs of 159 for 7. Tom Murphy continued his form with two wickets and also eye-catching was the off spin of Phil Llewellyn, who took three wickets. Sean Coaker bowled with accuracy as normal and was well backed up by Ben Palin, Oliver Richards and Callum James. Kieran Griffiths top scored for Pembs with 25, backed up by Murphy for 15, until Pembs had lost six wickets when the rain came and put an end to a very hard but enjoyable game. Day Three The final day of the tour and the boys were eager to try and get a win when they faced Norfolk. The boys were a little excited as the former England opening batsman Nick Knight was watching this game since his nephew plays for Norfolk. Norfolk batted first and again the Pembs lads fielded and bowled excellently with the spinners playing a big part via Llewellyn (6 overs 2 for 8), and Poole (6 overs 2 for 10). Murphy and Coaker bowled well in their spells, backed up by Liam Cullen and Harry Phillips. Pembs had a good start to their batting with Kieran Griffiths and Phil Llewellyn putting on 60 until they lost a wicket. Llewellyn went for 18 followed by Griffiths for 27 but the boys kept going, but were struggling to build partnerships until the talented Kurtis Marsh hit a magnificent 34 not out. But Marsh and Harry Phillips fell short by three runs with two balls to go. The large crowd enjoyed a fabulous game to finish the tour, but unfortunately the boys could not quite pull off what would have been a great victory. Proud of their efforts All the tour party received certificates from Don Topley and went home very proud of there efforts and hopefully gained a lot from the very high standard of cricket that was played.
Neyland worthy winners of Steve James Memorial Trophy
Venue: The Racecourse, Haverfordwest
Neyland were worthy winners of the second Steve James Memorial Six a Side tournament held at The Racecourse in memory of the former Haverfordwest skipper and chairman, who would have been delighted at the spirit engendered in a great day’s cricket. They beat Cresselly in a cracking final where they were asked to bat first, built a reasonable, if unspectacular total and then bowled and fielded really well to win by 12 runs so that skipper Gregg Miller could receive the trophy from Andrew Phillips, one of the organisers of the event. Phil Williams, who had batted superbly for Cresselly all day, deservedly received the man of the Tournament award and received it from Steve James’ mum Ruth, who had graced the day with Steve’s dad Wiffy.
Burton v Johnston
Jones (29 not out) and Lee Summons (41, including a six and five fours) put on 56 in five overs before Jones was caught by Luke Hayman off Gareth Bevan – and then Ross Dewstowe blitzed three sixes and two fours in a speedy 33 not out that took Johnston to victory on 109 for 1 in 8.5 overs.
Whitland v Haverfordwest B There were even more runs in this battle as Whitland set a target of 129 for victory and Haverfordwest reached it for the loss of two wickets. Jonathan Thomas had five fours and two sixes in his 61 for Whitland before he was well caught by Chris Phillips off Ben Field, who also bowled Iestyn Scourfield in his 2 for 19 spell. Matthew Davies chipped in with 49 but was then bowled by Phillips as Whitland set a big target.
Burton v Haverfordwest A Burton struggled from the outset as brothers Ashley and Adam James grabbed three wickets and only Gareth Bevan (27) ever stayed long as Adam Raymond, Josh Wilment and Danny Potter had a wicket apiece. Luke Hayman caused early problems as he picked up two wickets and Mark Griffiths bowled Adam James for 22 but Danny Potter used his experience to guide The Town home with 24 not out.
Whitland v Cresselly Iestyn Scourfield (29) and Jonathan Thomas (27 not out) were the top Whitland batsmen as they scored 98 for 2 against Cresselly but Phil Williams was again in form with 59 not out (10 fours and two sixes) and Nick Davies supported with 34 before he was out – and Cresselly strolled to 101 for 1 in 7.4 overs.
St Ishmaels v Neyland Tish reached 95 for 3 wickets against Neyland as Jonathan Pawlett (26), Andrew Pawlett (30) and Andrew Palmer (26 not out) batted well but Neyland served notice of intent Greg Miller (31 not out) and Andrew Miller (30 not out) saw them through to 96 for 2 in 8.3 overs.
Haverfordwest B v Cresselly
Johnston v Haverfordwest A Lee Summons and Ross Dewstowe managed double figures for Johnston but they were shot out for a paltry 44 runs as Danny Potter picked up three wickets without conceding a run – and then scored 24 not out as he and Adam Raymond (18 not out) took Haverfordwest to victory in 5.2 overs.
Haverfordwest A v Neyland (First semi final) Neyland bowled and fielded superbly to restrict Haverfordwest to 78 for 5 despite useful knocks from Adam Raymond (32), Danny Potter (19) and Huw Scriven (24). Then openers Paul Murray and Sean Hannon paced their innings well, with Murray belting four fours and two sixes en route to 55 not out and Hannon supported well with 24 not out as Neyland won without losing a wicket in just 6.3 overs.
Johnston v Cresselly (Second semi-final) Neilson Cole and Sam Harts shared four wickets for Cresselly as they restricted Johnston to 80 all out, with runs from Lee Summons (19) and Danny Dewstowe (21). It was never going to be enough to test Cresselly’s powerful batting line-up and Phil Williams (42 not out) and Nick Davies (37 not out), again took their side to victory without conceding a wicket in 8.1 overs.
Neyland (96 for 4) beat Cresselly (84 for 5) Neyland lost key run-maker Paul Murray in the first over and Sean Hannon also departed cheaply but Gregg Miller (31) and Andrew Miller (29) batted well before both departed, adjudged lbw as they hit across the line. Nick Kooman added a late 13 not out and Cresselly faced a target of 97 to win. It was a score they would have expected to achieve as they Nick Davies (11) and Phil Williams (23) put on 38 in four overs, before both fell to Sean Hannon, who held on to a blistering return catch to remove Williams. Neilson Cole and Phil Stephens managed double figures but Neyland bowled a tight line and fielded superbly so that they restricted Cresselly to 84 for 5 and were worthy winners of the competition.

Lamphey (101 for 4) beat Haverfordwest (100 for 6) Umpires: Allan Hansen & Phil Tallett Scorers: Helen Hodges (Lamphey) and Keith Thompson (Haverfordwest) Venue: St Ishmaels
Lamphey Cricket Club proved that they are the leading lights at under 15 cricket in Pembrokeshire as they fended off a strong challenge from Haverfordwest in an absorbing final at St Ishmaels, which bodes well for the future of cricket in the county. Josh Hicks led the Haverfordwest batting, with four boundaries in his 30 made from only 37 deliveries before he was bowled by Rob Hearne, ably supported by Ashley James, who smashed 27 off only nine deliveries (five fours), and Dan Cole (two fours in his nine runs).
Gianluca Tremarco certainly led Lamphey in the field as he claimed three cracking catches at key times to help restrict The Town to exactly 100 runs for the loss of six wickets, before batting well themselves, especially through Rhys Miller and Scott Burton.
Miller & Burton shine with the bat Miller had four fours in his undefeated 24, three of them from successive deliveries, whilst Burton also struck three fours in his 27 before he was out in the penultimate over, but by then Lamphey were almost home and dry because Ben Adams had also chipped in with 12 runs. The trophies were distributed by Trefor Evans, Phil Tallett & Georgina Morgan, daughter of the late John Bowen, who presented the trophy years ago with Stanley Richards, who was sadly unable to attend and missed his first-ever final.

Burton (81 for 9) beat Whitland (78 for 4)
Umpires: Denis Chiffi & John Williams Scorers: Brian Griffiths (Burton) and Jenny Davies-Scourfield (Whitland) Venue: Cresselly Cricket Club
Burton Under 13s beat their counterparts from Whitland by three runs in an epic cup final at Cresselly which amply demonstrated the quality of developing players in Pembrokeshire. There was some stylish batting, tight bowling and excellent fielding and the quality was shown not least in the fact that nine of the current regional squad were on show in a final played in the best spirit and on an excellent batting track at Cresselly Cricket Club.
Hayman heads Burton batting Leading the way for Burton as they batted first was Toby Hayman, who retired at 31 having shown his array of strokes, with support from Jack Davies (12), before he was well caught by Connor Bowen off his own bowling, whilst Lewis Boswell (9) was pouched by Steffan James off Geraint Jones. For Whitland, Jones (1 for 12) bowled well in conjunction with Bowen (2 for 15) and Ben Pilarza (4-14) as Burton finished on 81 for 9 from their allotted 20 overs.
Whitland find runs hard to come by When Whitland batted, there was some useful performances by Wyn Espie (20 not out) and Geraint Jones (15) but tight bowling by Jack Davies (2 for 13) and Toby Hayman (1 for 8) kept the pressure on the Whitland line-up before James Davies, who still plays for the club’s under 11s, came on to take 1 for 6 from his two overs late on. It was a vital little bowling cameo that helped Burton squeeze home by only three runs in a nerve-jangling finale. Both coaches, Richard Hayman (Burton) and Mark Lee (Whitland), were pleased with their team’s efforts during the season and wished to thank Glyn Cole and Cresselly for use of their excellent facilities.
County Under 10s learn a lot at Aberystwyth Cricket Festival
Pembrokeshire’s Under 10 cricket team participated in a three-day cricket festival for Welsh county teams at Aberystwyth recently and although they lost all three matches against strong opposition they learned a great deal which will be of benefit in the future.
So close to success The first game was against North Wales side Eryri, who elected to bat after winning the toss. A delayed start had meant the game was reduced to 25 overs each and Eryri began well, scoring 50 runs off 10 overs before change bowlers Nathan Coaker (3 for 24) and Geraint Rees (1 for 12) struck, reducing Eryri to 65 for 3 off 16 overs. Lewis Hough (1 for 28) and James Davies (1 for 21) grabbed a wicket each in their second spells and two run-outs meant Eryri reached 102 for 8 wickets. Curtis Hicks (0 for 8) was the other Pembrokeshire bowler used. Pembrokeshire’s innings stuttered when Lewis Hough and Geraint Rees were both dismissed early but solid batting from Lloyd Bartlett (18), James Davies (20) and Nick Jones (19) kept the team in with a real chance of victory. Unfortunately, four run-outs near the end of the game meant that Pembrokeshire finished just four runs short of their target on 98 for 9 in a very exciting match.
Good performance against an experienced side The following day, Mid Glamorgan were the opponents. Their team included some international players and solid batting throughout the innings resulted in a score of 187 for 4 after 35 overs which would prove to be a very tough target. Niall Hooper (1 for 22) and Nick Jones (1 for 22) were the only wicket takers but good fielding again resulted in two run-outs. James Davies (0 for 22), Noah Davies (0 for 22), Geraint Rees (0 for 18), Lewis Hough (0 for 18), Nathan Coaker (0 for 25) Ewan Griffiths (0 for 9) and Daniel Llewelyn (0 for 18) all tried hard as Pembrokeshire captain, Geraint Rees, rotated his bowlers in an attempt to unsettle the Mid Glamorgan batting. Pembrokeshire began brightly with openers Niall Hooper and Daniel Llewelyn looking comfortable at the crease but an unfortunate run-out sent Niall back to the pavilion for 6 runs and Daniel soon followed. Jacob Lay struck a boundary before being bowled, leaving Pembrokeshire with an uphill battle at 13 for 3. James Davies with an excellent 30 runs, Geraint Rees (8) and Nick Jones (13) all occupied the crease for some length to bolster the innings. Further down the order, Lloyd Bartlett, Adam Hart and Kyle Williams also batted well and a spirited innings of 12 not out by Lewis Hough left Pembrokeshire with a very respectable total of 143, their highest score of the season.
Sting in the tail The final game was against a very strong Cardiff and The Vale side, also boasting international players. This game was delayed after an unfortunate incident at the University where the boys were staying during the festival. A wasp’s nest was disturbed during a game of football after breakfast and four of the team, Noah Davies, Nick Jones, Jacob Lay and Nathan Coaker, had to be taken to the hospital for treatment after being stung. This left the team visibly shaken although all the boys were eventually able to play in the game, which was reduced to 30 overs each. Cardiff’s batting line up proved to be very solid with their top five all reaching double figures, posting a final score of 135 for 6 wickets. Again the captain used all the bowlers at his disposal with Jacob Lay (2 for 7), Adam Hart (1 for 14), Ewan Griffiths (1 for 17), who also took a brilliant catch, and Nathan Coaker (1 for 14) being the wicket takers. James Davies (0 for 9), Lewis Hough (0 for 10), Noah Davies (0 for 19), Geraint Rees (0 for 4) Nick Jones (0 for 9), Curtis Hicks (0 for 8) Niall Hooper (0 for 12) and Daniel Llewelyn (0 for 1) all bowled well without success. During lunch the team sounded confident that they had a chance of reaching the target but Niall Hooper was bowled in the first over and it soon became evident that the boys were up against some very good bowlers. Only opener Lloyd Bartlett (14) reached double figures although Geraint Rees, Nick Jones and Daniel Llewelyn all managed to occupy the crease for some time before being dismissed. Lewis Hough again showed defiance with 6 not out at the end but the total of 54 was a disappointing way to end the festival.
Coach Alex Kemp was pleased with the way that the team conducted themselves during the festival and commented on how much the bowling and fielding has improved during the season. Next year the team will be looking to improve on catching in the deep and batting for longer periods. Thanks were also extended to assistant coach, Andrew Williams, for scoring during the festival and to Mark Hicks for providing the transport and supervising the team at the University.

Hook Ladies complete deserved double
Hook Ladies completed a double in the Pembrokeshire Ladies’ Cricket scene as they remained unbeaten throughout the season to complete the double of league winners alongside their previous success in the Skelfayre Cup. The games against Neyland were, as usual, the most competitive but at home Hook were victorious and the result was Neyland (94-3) lost to Hook (95-5). Then in Neyland towards the end of the campaign, the game that clinched the title, Hook won even more decisively as Neyland (51 all out) lost to Hook (52-0)
Top performers In the league batswomen retire at 25 so there aren\'t any really big individual scores but the leading run scorers were Sam Rossiter, Jo Kerrison, Leanne Jones, Angharad James and Kate Miller, whilst their top bowlers were Leanne Jones, Kath Adams, Alice Thomas, Jemma Phillips and Hayley Thomas. For Neyland, Julie Garlick led the way batting wise, with support from Poppy Taylor, Angie Thomas and Katie Norrie, whilst Nicola Morris, Naomi James, Emma Summons and Julie again being their top bowlers. But it was Hook’s extra all-round strength and experience which saw them gain the double – and PembrokeshireSport.co.uk says well done Hook Ladies on another wonderful season!

Dyfed/Powys rules the police cricketing roost
Dyfed/Powys Police (84 for 0) beat South Yorkshire Police (82 all out) by 10 wickets
Venue: Cresselly C.C.
Dyfed/Powys Police confirmed their status as one of the best cricketing forces in the United Kingdom as they once again moved into the final of the competition for all the forces with a superb win over their counterparts from South Yorkshire. The visitors are rightly regarded as one of the top sides but were under pressure from the outset after they won the toss and elected to bat on a cracking wicket at Cresselly and lost key batsmen to St Ishmaels all rounder Andrew Williams and Richard Grant. Williams finished with impressive figures of 3 for 19 alongside Grant’s 2 for 16 in their respective nine-over stints.
No challenge South Yorks compounded their problems when they had Graham Ackroyd run out and they wrapped up their innings as Huw Evans (who lives in Fishguard) neatly stumped Mike Cox so that South Yorks went in to an early tea having been bowled out for a paltry total of 92. It was unlikely to test Dyfed/Powys’s strong line up, which included not only Williams but Simon Cole (Cresselly) and Dai Lee (Whitland), who weren’t needed since the opening pair of Richard Grant and Huw Evans had respective unbeaten scores of 39 and 33 as they sounded a clarion call that they are fully focussed on success in the competition!

The last regional cup game of the season saw Pembrokeshire go through to the semi-finals against Cardiff & the Vale for the first time in a few years. Pembrokeshire won the toss and chose to bat, and Phil Llewellyn of Neyland excelled with the bat with a superb 53 backed up by Narberth’s Shaun Coaker 25 not out. The two boys batted with urgency and built an excellent total for the Pembrokeshire side.

Pembrokeshire Under 11s (231 for 4) beat West Glamorgan (142 for 9) Venue: Kilgetty Cricket Club Pembrokeshire lost the toss and were put into bat on an excellent pitch. Shaun Coaker & Liam Cullen opened the batting and put on 105 for the first wicket in an excellent opening partnership, Coaker falling one short of his 50 as he was caught on 49, whilst Cullen fell on 45 to a superb catch on the deep mid wicket boundary. Toby Poole came in at No 3 and continued the run rate with a very mature 66 not out, including of 5 boundaries. Kilgetty U11 Cricket Team achieve historic title hat-trick

Whitland were worthy winners of the 2010 Ormond Youth Plate Final after they beat their counterparts from Hook in a match dominated by Steffan James and David Dunfee – and limited to one innings apiece because of the inclement weather.
Steve James Memorial Six a Side:
With play taking place on all three pitches at The Racecourse, the action came thick and fast from a 10.30am start until the presentations at 8pm. Burton and Johnston got things off to a cracking start as Burton batted first and reached a useful 108 for 2 in their ten overs as Richard Jones blasted eight fours in his 68 and fellow teenager Luke Hayman supported with 27 not out.
Haverfordwest had Karl Rhead striking five big sixes and seven fours in his cracking 81 – and Richard Scriven’s undefeated 33 saw The Town to victory.
Ben Field (33), Simon Williams (19 not out) and Chris Phillips (17 not out) helped Haverfordwest’s B team to 92 for 3 but Cresselly eased through as Nick Davies (38 not out) and Phil Williams (18 not out) shared an unbroken fourth wicket stand of 58 runs.
