Holliday and Harris top the second half charts with bat and ball
The latest cricket statistics compiled by Whitland statisticians Paul and Janice Webb, for the second half of the 2010 season, make interesting reading, as usual, with Haverfordwest’s new recruit Simon Holliday easing out Nick Scourfield (Carew) in terms of runs scored, with Holliday’s team-mate Karl Rhead in third place after a rich run of batting form.
On the bowling front, there is another surprise because Cresselly’s stalwart swing bowler Richard Harries tops the bowling chart with 23 wickets, just in front of talented young Carew pace man Rhys Davies, with another surprise at No 3 since Tish’s slow left armer Andrew Pawlett leapt from nowhere to join the top echelon.
Holliday stroked four 50s from seven innings, three of which were not out, so that he finished up with an average of 84.5, but that wasn’t the best average because Neyland’s Gareth Virgo scored 205 runs in five innings and was out only twice for an amazing average of 102.5!
Rhys Davies showed that he is now a genuine all-rounder with Carew as he averaged 93.0 to go with his second spot in the bowling stakes with 22 wickets.
Other all-rounders who featured in both batting and bowling top 20s were Danny Caine (Saundersfoot), Matthew ‘Titch’ Davies (Whitland), Nathan Banner (Herbrandston), Steve Lewis (Lawrenny) and Ian Hughes (Narberth), so well done lads – and huge thanks to Paul and Janice for taking their usual care in compilation!!
