Rugby Preview

fixtures for 24th April 2010

Narberth entertain Builth WellsDivision One (West):

Bridgend v Whitland
Bridgend travel to Bridgend in search of the double over the former top-class side, having won 13-3 at Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn. Verdict: The Borderers are still in second place and have been playing well of late so they have a chance of victory here!

Narberth v Builth Wells
Narberth will start this tussle as firm favourites against a side which has won only five times from 18 starts and are in the danger zone at the foot of the table. Verdict: The Otters to come out on top here – no doubt about it!

Division Three (West):

Crymych v Haverfordwest
Crymych, who are now in third place, are in good form but so are Haverfordwest, who have climbed out of the relegation area, so this could be an interesting encounter at Parc Lloyd Thomas. Verdict: The Preseli Men to pick up the points since they have home advantage.

Newcastle Emlyn v Cardigan
A local derby where Newcastle Emlyn will look at not only beating their neighbours but keeping ahead of the chasing pack in the section. Verdict: Cardigan have been playing well, without much luck, but will need to raise their tempo if they are to win at Ddol Wiber

Division Four (West):

Burry Port v Tenby United
Can Tenby United maintain their remarkable march up the table against a side they beat 16-11 at home? Verdict: The Seasiders have a couple of recent injuries which might disrupt their progress but I believe they will still be able to secure the spoils at Burry Port, who are ninth in the table with only five wins.

Milford Haven v Pontarddulais
The top game in the section as fourth plays third in the table. The Mariners have stuttered of late whilst Pontarddulais, defeat against Tenby apart, have looked strong. Verdict: I think the Mariners can win this but they will need to be on song!

Pembroke Dock Quins v Cefneithin
The Quins are now bottom of the table and face fifth-placed Cefneithin knowing that only a miracle can save them from relegation now. Verdict: I think the Quins can beat Cefneithin – if they believe in themselves!

Tumble v Pembroke
What a tough match for Pembroke as they travel to play table-topping Tumble knowing that they could get relegated unless they revive their flagging fortunes. Verdict: Tumble to win and add to their impressive tally of 17 wins from 18 starts.

Neyland travel to FishguardDivision Five (West):

Fishguard v Neyland
Neyland travel to The Moors in confident mood after scoring so many tries of late whilst Fishguard’s title challenge has petered out of late. Verdict: The Seagulls would love to avenge a 15-10 reverse in Neyland but I think the All Blacks have too many big guns firing well and will secure the double over the home side.

St Clears v St Davids
St Davids beat St Clears by 15-10 at home but journey into Carmarthenshire knowing that their opponents are a different kettle of fish at home. Verdict: The home side start as favourites but our local Saints could still snatch the verdict here if they play to their strengths.

Swansea Uplands v Llangwm
Llangwm’s away form has been abysmal but they beat Swansea Uplands by 55-5 at home last Saturday. Verdict: The Wasps should complete a rare double here, providing that they travel with a reasonably strong side!
