Rutgby returns to actionRugby Preview

27th March 2010

At last local rugby gets back on the rails after the immense disruption caused by bad weather and then the Six Nations Championships. Good luck to all our local clubs on their run-in to the final weeks of the campaign!

Division One (West):

Corus v Narberth
The Otters face a tough tussle here against a Corus side which is now in fourth place, three above Narberth, and playing well. Verdict: Narberth won 16-15 at home against The Steelmen but would do very well to complete the double here!

Whitland v Carmarthen Athletic
Whitland won 8-0 against old rivals Carmarthen Athletic earlier in the season but know that to complete a welcome double they will have to be at their best. Verdict: I take the Borderers to win this one!

Division Three (West):

Cardigan v Gorseinon
Cardigan have sunk to tenth spot in the section and need a lift if they are not to face a late relegation dog-fight. Verdict: Gorseinon are doughty opponents who are currently third, having beaten the Teifisiders by 15-7 at home, and sadly I think they will repeat that result here!

Haverfordwest v Penclawdd
Penclawdd sit just above Haverfordwest in the table and the Blues will be eager to pouch something from this match. Verdict: Penclawdd beat Crymych last week so are in good nick –but I think they will be hard pushed to repeat their 21-5 home win over Haverfordwest by winning here.

Morriston v Crymych
This is another tough away fixture for Crymych, who won by 11-10 at home against the same side. Verdict: This is going to be a battle for the Preseli Men against a big pack – and they will do well to grab a bonus point!

Division Four (West):

Burry Port v Milford Haven
Milford beat Burry Port by 46-8 at home and go into this match knowing they can’t afford to lose any more games if they are to stay in promotion contention. Verdict: The Mariners should win well, hopefully with a bonus point.

Pembroke v Betws
Pembroke have slipped to ninth place and will be eager to come back to form at home to Betws, who are just ahead of the Scarlets in the section table. Verdict: The Scarlets lost 25-10 in Betws and should gain ample revenge for that defeat.

Pontarddulais v Pembroke Dock Quins
Another difficult trip for the beleaguered Quins, who are 11th and facing the prospect of relegation again, whilst Pontarddulais are fourth and in with a shout of going up. Verdict: The Bont won by 27-10 at Bierspool and, sadly, I can’t see any other result than a home win here!

Tenby United v Amman United
Tenby have been rejuvenated as they have shot up the table thanks to a string of impressive results where they have beaten some of the top sides. Verdict: The Seasiders won 21-13 at Amman and will gain the double at Heywood lane, hopefully with a bonus point thrown in.

Division Five (West):

New Dock Stars v Fishguard
Fishguard will be looking to remain firmly on Neyland’s heels as they travel to New Dock Stars, who are seventh in the table with eight wins from 13 starts. Verdict: The Seagulls must soar if they are to do well – and I think they will do just that!

Neyland v Swansea Uplands
Neyland have been in super-impressive form with some huge wins this season, none more so than when they scored 100 points in Swansea Uplands. Verdict: The banker bet of the afternoon!

Pontyates v Llangwm
Llangwm beat Pontyates at Pill Parks by 31-15 and now travel for the reverse fixture in search of a third win against a team which has only won once so far this campaign. Verdict: If the Wasps can field a strong side they should be victorious.

St Davids v Furnace
St Davids entertain Furnace in search of revenge since they lost 53-13 in Furnace earlier in the season but have played well since that defeat. Verdict: The Saints will need to be in top form but they might just put out the Furnace fire if they can gain parity up front!
